Funny how programs that do audits find they need more money. And there are other programs like the DOD and the FED that DON'T do audits. Plenty of money for Ukraine and Israel to foght their wars but no money for the moon. 4 trillion for wars and illegal immigration but, nothing to go into space. Imagine if we had put 4 trillion into the space program. After the shuttle program ended we were asking Russians for rides to space. Then, Elon Musk comes along and does some good things. And now Musk is leaving California for Texas. It shows how misplaced people's priorities lie. In profiteering off war and human trafficking.

SLS (along with Orion and Ground Equipment (I know Orion wouldn't fly for this)) costs about 4.6Billion each year and that's without all the operations, launches or future flight hardware. So in reality Falcon Heavy costs about 20 times less, 2Billion is just nicer number to put before congress, probably the cost of a single hardware and operations estimate. Interesting to point out the FH costs about 120 million to launch, and the 500 million probably includes lot of ground equipment upgrades and hardware for future gov. contracts, like integration facilities, while the 2 Billion for SLS is only the launch, and any further development would cost more than that.

If NASA wants to cut the cost of the SLS program by 60%, all they would have to do is hand over development of it to Space-X.
NASA budget is so tiny, when in fact we should take some of the defense budget and put it into it. NASA is the reason we have some of the missile and jet systems we have today. It’s like the country forgot all the inventions and innovations nasa use to develop. Sure the private sector tends to do things at a fraction of the cost, but some things the government should still have a process in, so the tech is available to the citizens.
Who cares what it costs? I don't remember the GAO crying about how much the Apollo program cost, right? NASA doesn't have an electric car company to prop up its operations, they actually have to pay ahead then plan, design, inspect, pray and make damn sure a vehicle isn't going to explode the first 5 times we fly it. Outstanding is expensive, but the God I believe in, ain't short of cash.

Yes it was a remarkable achievment it didnt cost the usual extravaagant amount of money for such a mission. It wasnt cost efective, because effective has to be successful. This mission failed, and everyone knows that. So stop bleating on about the amount of Data that was procured for the other science modules. The data retieved would not fill 4% of my Home PC hard Drive and thats 500 Gb. The true reflection of success is shown in your share price. Please take it on the chin and admit that in all the excitement, schoolboy errors like preflight check lists were disregaurded, when they should have been checked and rechecked on many formats, it was an enable or disable pin switch that was critically overlooked. Therefore your simulater tested and mission chosen lander software could not be initialised. Thats why you failed.Good luck if Nasa give you another go, we only are as good as our last f*** up
