As a Sox fan who watched this game during my freshman year in college, no one -- NO ONE -- was cursing out Bill Buckner. We were all cursing out Bob Stanley and Schiraldi. I blame Boston Globe columnists for putting the goat horns on Buckner. In fact, opening day the next season, Buckner got a standing ovation at Fenway.

Wasn't a wild pitch. Gedman made no effort on actually doing anything to blocking it. Buckner shouldn't have even been playing, as Stapleton was the later innings defensive replacement. Sure, Billy really blew it, however, that was a bad managerial decision.

So I disagree with the fact he was the greatest of all time. Like some comments have said he is the best steroid user of all time and yet has 0 world series titles and the Giants won three in I believe 5 years post Bonds. Nice try grifting for one of the biggest cheaters in baseball though.

Bill Buckner was a big league ball player who failed to make a routine play. That cost his team the game-which in turn caused the red sox the series. I don’t feel sorry for him. He made millions doing with he loved to do.
