Thanks for this video! Your process worked perfectly for my SA which looked exactly like yours. I thought it was a screw on and tried various Jewlers tools to get it unscrewed but never worked so ended up taking it to the mall for new battery.

I just tried this method with my bar clamp/spreader and it's not strong enough. I tired to find the one you use but to no avail. Do you have a newer model suggestion (don't want to purchase another weak model).

Success ! I have this same Swiss Army Calvary watch and the notch is at the 12 O'CLOCK position ! I could barely see it even with a loupe but it's there. I could feel it catch with a pairing knife. Couldn't get it with hand pressure so I found my tiny Dewalt mini clamp with the plastic holding plates like yours, folded a microfiber towel, positioned it to where 12 O'CLOCK was accessable, put on my gloves, positioned the blade where I could feel it catch and gave it two gentle taps with a rubber mallet. It seperated easily. Once I get the battery I will use that same clamp with a couple of plastic bottle caps sized accordingly to gently squeeze the case back in. I will line up the word (ARMY) with twelve O'CLOCK before pressing back in; just as it was from the factory.Thank you! You saved me $$ money. I haven't had it running since 1995.

I think that the sight hood was not added until 1939. If your kar98 was made before that it would not have had the slots for the sight hood.
