Apparently the students need to be educated even more. You open up the town to many disasters when everyone from all over the globe come here to our area. A grand plan should be in place. So now we have thousands of people coming back into town to party and seek fun, recreation and bars. I've lived here 56 years and i see not one improvement. Those monuments would be very at home on all the Battlefield parks that cover the South. Here they would be out of the public squares and in a historical context. The parks could use them to teach the history of the Confederate defeat on the battlefields. You could mark surrender sites, battle lines and headquarters using those monuments. Close to 50% of all men killed were buried right on the battlefield where they died. So for many families, there was no body of dad or brother to bury, so they erected these monuments to remember them by.
