Have the identical boat, sand point yacht club wanna race?
Beautiful cruise. Thank you for your generosity in sharing it with us. That last bit reminded me of the moronic Scout leader a few years ago who actually did that on an historic natural rock bridge and destroyed it.
what are your thoughts on using an electric trolling motor on these sizes of boats? when you have no wind?
that's a great video, thanks for sharing it with us! 2 questions: the pizza-2nd Avenue in Sandpoint? And how big is your Erickson? I sailed a 38 for a number of years.
Extremely beautiful.
A special place for sure!
What a good looking boat and beautiful red sails! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
The sails are definitely a beautiful sight to behold. Very unique for our area.
Great video and what an absolutely beautiful place to sail.
Thank you! It’s definitely beautiful and the consistent and predictable winds had us stoked!
Man , I recently found this channel . Excellent filming , great family oriented content . Your doin' it right man !
Thank you. I really appreciate that!!!
Makes me want to get my San Juan fixed up and on the water. I’m in Kalispell MT so not too far from you. Looks like a great time.
Yeah it was a great time, and you should get the boat back on the water! Flathead looks like an amazing lake and I hope to visit soon.
Awesome! What a beautiful area, I would love to visit Priest Lake, we have some family in Hayden. Thanks for the rad video and commentary! I grew up sailing a Kent Ranger 20', "ICHI BAN" hull #1 designed and built by my grandpa Ken Wheeler and Ray Richards in the 70's here in Washington, we still sail her today! Happy sailing!
Wow! That is so cool that you have a piece of family history in that boat! I’ve always admired the ranger 20s and think they are a cool design and a very nice sailing boat. Happy Sailing to you as well!!!
Great video and filmmaking. Such luxury with the weather, landscape, friends and not tides. A sweet trip.
Thank you! We definitely lucked out on weather and no tides means easy beaching! So much fun.
I liked your adventure.
Thanks. We enjoyed the trip!
This is for sure one of your best videos, thank you for sharing Man
I appreciate that! Thanks for watching.
Awesome place upper Priest Lake is. I’ve sailed my Paradox up there many a time. Nice camping spots too.
Definitely. Hey the paradox looks like a fun micro cruiser! Definitely an interesting design and perfect for places like upper priest.
Is this boat Swedich (mK 1) ?
It’s a 1970 Newport 16
What lake were you guys on? It was a very pretty spot!
Lake Pendoreille in North Idaho
What boat is that?
1970 Newport 16
Man, Bravo! Standing O on this video. Have plenty of memories with my family up there on Priest and Upper Priest (although not in sailboats). Phh, what a quality lake!!! Love it, love that lake! Great video. Good clean fun!!
Thank you!! It’s definitely a special place. That was only my second time to upper priest but I’m impressed more each time we go up there. I was also excited to see how many families we’re making great memories on the water both on the lower and upper lake. Thank you for your support!!!!
Love this little boats‼ For their small size, they certainly don't prevent you from some fantastic adventures👍
I agree. We’ve definitely had some great times in some beautiful places! Thanks for watching!
My niece has a home and lives in Huckelberry bay there.. I had my 27' retractable keel sail boat in Sandpoint for 4 years. THEN went BLUE WATER SAILING !!!
Awesome!! Enjoy those consistent winds and beautiful water.
Excellent video! I am a new WWP15 owner (1997) - and I noticed that your WWP15 has a rudder push/pull rod installed. I am very interested any details of the push/pull rod you would be willing to share - specifically its overall length, materials used and how the push/pull rod and rudder are connected. Thanks again for sharing your sailing adventures.
Yeah the rod was installed by a previous owner but it’s a 1”x34” oak rod with 3”x1.5” stainless L brackets where it attaches to the rudder. It’s contained at the top of the rudder stock by a piece of 1” conduit. Overall it works ok and is a cool idea but the forces needed to move it up and down are considerable. It probably needs more leverage at the attachment of the rudder. Thanks for watching the videos!!
The joys of sailing; and with friends to boot. Amazing video, thanks for sharing. Was there a clear winner, in the best all around sailor trailer boat?
Thanks, I wouldn’t say there was a best all around boat as they vary greatly and their perceived good attributes are probably based on speculation . I know I would be happy adventuring on any of the four boats!!
Lovely location and a great trip, its not exactly the same here in England
I imagine England is quite different but beautiful in it’s own way! So much history there
@ruddyducksailing oh yes, but we don't have the scale that you do. Also we don't have many public ramps with docks to tie to and parking with trailers hooked on. It seems much better set up over your side of the pond
Nice Adventure!
Thank you , we enjoyed it
Started watching didn’t realize you live where I do. I might have to join club.
It’s nice having a place to link up with locals and have the ability to cruise with other boats. Strength in numbers
excellent ,fun trip and perfect sailing conditions thats a stunning lake for sure ,love when theres more boats and we get see them all under sail from a out of boat distance just makes the videos better
Thanks. I definitely enjoyed having all the other boats around and sharing the experience with other sailors! Can’t wait to see what flotillas we will be a part of in the future!!
I am the knights who says ni. Ni.
Oh and nice video. Great drone shots.
😂 Ni
And thank you!!
Almost makes me want to get my 17' trailer sailer out, but it's hibernating in the New Zealand winter.
Hello from Cornwall, UK! It looks so beautiful there and that camp spot was idyllic. I’m new to sailing with a 21ft Corribee. I have a 2 year old boy and I’m looking forward to exploring the coast and coves with him when he grows up. Gotta say, I’m envious that you don’t have massive tidal ranges and mud to deal with on those beautiful lakes 😂
Hello. It’s definitely a special place! The Coribee looks like a great boat and possibly one you could dry out on a tidal flat? I hope to gain some coastal experience soon on our west coast near Seattle where there’s strong currents and tides. Gonna be interesting. And sailing with family is the best so I’m excited for you to have those experiences in the future!!
@@ruddyducksailing thanks for the reply! Yeah it’s a solid little cruiser and for a newbie it’s very forgiving. Built not far from where I live actually, back in the 80s I think. It’s a bilge/split keel which is very common in the UK - intended for drying out. It’s moored on a creek and sits in the mud each time the tide ebbs. Good to know if I miscalculate an adventure upstream! Thanks mate, it’s all about shared experiences right. Cheers for the great vids, I’ll keep watching. Enjoy your Seattle sailing!
Top marks for the Knights of Neigh inclusion 😂 Great video and location- I'm currently only sailing my kayak sail rig, but these videos tempt me to go bigger!
These are great times - I had to get involved with a group and the multipul night overnights really help one to disconnect and enjoy another world! kzread.info/dash/bejne/d4GApZOcoM3UdLw.html I'm only 14.5' in the green ILUR - go bigger (it doesn't have to be too big) and join a TSCA chapter - these are fun and good physical exercise as well.
I couldn’t resist 😂 Hey those kayak rigs look like a lot of fun but if you wanted to sail with crew I would recommend a trailerable sailboat for sure. Fair winds!!
Agreed!! Thanks for sharing the video. Beautiful boats and great trip!!
I’m in NW Montana and slowly learning to sail. Your videos inspire me to get out on the water. I really like the Potter 15’s. What other brands of trailerable boats do you recommend? There is a Newport 17 listed on Facebook in Moscow for cheap. Thanks for sharing your outings!
Awesome! I would recommend just about any boat that gets you out on the water really. I prefer small swing keel boats that can be beached but the Montgomery 15s are also really popular. I’ve been eyeballing that Newport 17 “Miss Tippy” also for awhile and it would be a great boat as long as it was in decent condition. Thanks for watching!!
@@ruddyducksailingThanks for the response!
Awesome adventure. I enjoyed watching. Thanks for sharing. Canadian DS16K in restoration mode... I'm looking forward to exactly this type of sailing when she is done. Cheers 🍺
Thank you. I hadn’t heard of the DS 16 yet so i looked it up, cool boat! It’s very similar to my little cruisers and should be a blast to sail and adventure. Cheers 🍻
So, it is either handling the oars or a motor to get to the upper lake. Hmm.
Yeah, there is almost no current. This is the second time I’ve been up there but the first we sailed and paddled the whole thing in the Newport 16. The wind can push you north normally.
Thanks Brian for such a great video and for a GREAT trip!! Motor issues solved! That is such an amazing place! The drone footage was crazy good!
Great channel! What lake is this?
Thanks. Lake Pendoreille in North Idaho
Love this. And love the snappy edit cranking that last bit of jib halyard at 3:58. Superb video work!
Thank you! I’m stoked you noticed the timing! It was fun getting creative in the editing.
I love your videos. I'm a professional cinematographer and an ASPIRING small sailboat wannabe. I have friends that sail the world but what you do is more appealing to me. I'm was raised just outside of Yosemite and still live here. I've got friends that sail the world but I don't think I'd ever fall in love with that. The way you sail small waters and share it with us is awesome. And the way you're raising your kids is what this country needs more. PM me if you want to, I'd love to BS more about camera stuff or small sailboat stuff. Well done.
Thank you! I’m definitely an amateur videographer but I really enjoy it and aspire to improve. I have never sailed the world but I’ve definitely fallen in love with the small sailboat lifestyle and it allows me to have grand adventures and also live in the woods that I grew up in.
Just watched this in the eary evening glow of the Sierra, just kinda' mellowing out, whishing I had been able to do that with my boys when they were growing up... thank you.... this is wonderful.
Thank you!! I definitely feel blessed to be able to sail with my family.
55 year old boat
Yes! And still going strong.
The way you rigged the jib is awesome man super clever
Thank you!!
New subscriber. I'm hooked . Love your videos. Absolutely beautiful! Where did you leave your tow vehicle and trailer for the 3 days?
Thank you for subscribing, it means a lot to us! So on that trip I launched and left my truck and trailer at Steamboat Rock State Park. There’s plenty of parking space and they charge $10 a night for a unattended vehicle fee.
Insanely beautiful sums it up perfectly! Thank you for this!!! AllthebestRoy
My pleasure, thanks for watching!! Cheers.
Absolutely love this. Do you sleep on the boat or do you camp?
Thanks. I sleep on the boat because it’s more comfortable than a tent. Not much bigger though. It also requires no setup so I just roll out a sleeping bag on the cushions and I’m good to go!
Crazy to think that there are people building boats smaller than this to sail around the world.
That is crazy, and also inspiring! With the trend moving towards 50’+ boats to cross an ocean it’s good to know there’s still guys out there that can do it in a 15 footer.
what are the boat s size and makes
Blue one is a Newport 16 and white one is a West wight potter 15
Magnificant! Love your pocket boat and guitar music. I've thought of doing the same at Lake Abiqui in New Mexico on a Folkboat. That's a big body of water, and the views from the top are terrefic! Thank you for the video. All the best to you.
Thank you! I bet New Mexico is gorgeous and you should definitely do the trip if you can! Adventure via sailboat is amazing and leads to a fuller life. All the best to you as well.
Love these videos! Love you guys!!!
Thank you! We love you too!
Model of the boat, please and thank you !
Newport 16
I really enjoyed coming along.
I am glad! Thanks for watching!
Great video!🎉
😊 Thank you
Thanks for sharing a fantastic experience, a beautiful area, fantastic compact boat, I would dearly love that. Really good video.
Thank you! Sailing and adventuring has changed my life for the better so I am happy to share my experiences! Thanks for watching
