It somehow reminded me of Kraftwerk... its been a while I don't listen to Kraftwerk...
I have installed Loxone automation which can automate shading to help with thermal gain up and down. The installed said that this worked best with external shading like external blinds rather than internal as the blinds can't make such a difference when the solar energy has come through the glass. It would be good to have your view on how automated "internal" shading can help. Our home build has most of it's glass North facing so less gains to be made or lost but the combination of automated shading and MVHR would be really interesting to see.
Great question. The first thing to consider is that 'external shading vs internal shading' is not a black-and-white comparison. Think of it like SPF levels on bottles of sunscreen: blinds have different characteristics depending on the blind type, fabric type, fabric transparency and fabric backing etc. A roller blind with a 5% screen fabric is a bit like SPF 30; it lets a decent amount of light and visibility through, whilst offering good protection from the sun. A blackout blind, of course, is more like SPF 50; blocking out light and therefore heat far more than a screen fabric roller blind. Staying with the sunscreen analogy, external shading is like wearing a hat: it's either on or off and it does a great job of stopping the heat. Fixed external shading is not a good solution to a dynamic problem (the sun!) but moveable external shading is a much better solution however both options are comparatively a lot more expensive than internal blinds. That said, they are more effective at stopping the heat/light even entering the building in the first place, so in that respect they are 'better'. Internal blinds, on the other hand, offer UV protection, heat reduction, glare control and internal acoustic dampening. Internal shading can reduce heat loss by up to 33% energy in the winter, whereas external shading is completely ineffective at retaining heat. They aesthetically harmonise with the interior design theme and they can be automated to work with other smart home devices like lighting and AV systems Ultimately, neither is 'better' than the other. In an ideal world, people would specify both external and internal shutters and have both systems working harmoniously. External shading is 'better' at keeping the heat and light out for a few hot and sunny days of the year, but that's all it can do. Smart blinds are a better all-round solution for every day of the year. Hope this helps. If you need anything from us, please email [email protected] and one of our discovery team members will be happy to assist.
Great video, just in time for me, I am about to buy 13 blinds for my build which will use Tahoma to link to my Loxone system but the fact this has Zigbee means it has the potential to be much more open in the future. You have shown me limitations of RTS I was not aware of.
Look like you need both to get no lights in the room
Unfortunately didn't actually show how to upgrade from the old box to the new switch. This is just how to set up a new Switch
The yubii app is hot dookie ass omg
Nice video. Can you get a hard-wired Somfy motor that can do this. I have 19 blinds that I want to install on a new build
We now have the complete Somfy Zigbee range in stock! Reach out to [email protected] to get a price.. :)
Nice video, very useful, thanks!
Now we've been testing it for longer we can say that the functionality is impressive! We'll be doing another video soon to show more of what it can do.
"Hello agent Harold, we have a special mission for you. Lights please!!!"
Knowing Somfy and especially IO if you double tap or tap a couple on times the precise input on the configurator does it then only move once or does it like IO and set&go go 3 seconds long when you press that button. It's really weird but annoying especially when you want to program the top position
Pretty sure it has small incremental movements but we'll be doing more testing soon - the motors are now in stock!
@umbrashading yeah but sometimes if you click that like 3 four times in a row it keeps running like a big step. I work with IO in business setting and that's something I see a lot on the regular IO motors
Great video. I have an customer that uses Apple Home kit. The RTS motors don't work with apple home kit, even via Tahoma. They work with Google Home (I have this setup in my house). Have you found any success with Apple Home kit - Tahoma - Somfy ZigBee motors?
you mentioned a PoE adaptor for the Tahoma Switch. Where can I can that? The only thing adaptor I found still needs USB for power
It's available from Somfy - or it can be purchased with Tahoma hubs from Umbra
@@umbrashading is that a true PoE according to 802.3af, not requiring USB power? The product with ref. no 9028054 still has to be connected to power, as far as i can tell
Awefull product, Somfy instructions and apps are hopeless, whoever developed this lot isnt in the real world, tried to set this up with Alexa and have just ended up messing the whole remote up after spending hours on it, free Tahoma switch now in the trash to preserve my sanity, never had any piece of tech so difficult to use as this, how a company can sell such poorly developed garbage as this is beyond me.
Hi, We've always found Somfy support to be very good in the UK. Maybe reach out to them on social media? If we knew what the problem was we'd try to help as much as we could.
Hi thanks for the response however if i have to start using support it speaks volumes of the product, i do like tech however i have a limit to how much time i'm prepared to invest versus benefit and this thing went the wrong way, all academic anyway as thrown in the bin
I've installed wired somfy zigbee shades in 3 homes and I wouldn't use any other primarily because shade controls are possible via app, voice, and wall controls including tablets from a few different manufacturers (eliminating one advantage of savant, control 4, and Crestron).
Should have been a thread motor. But will see how this develops.
Maybe they will one day... I guess Thread is still too new to be sure where it will go.
Does the background music behind the narrating voice enhance or distract? Weigh in folks!
How can I pair Yubii home with the Elero VarioTel 2 remote controller?
Yes you should be able to. The company you bought the controller off should be able to help you with this but to be honest the interface on the Yubii is very straight forward so you can probably figure it out.
Great video, keep up the good work …
I look forward to seeing the comparison with the Somfy Tahoma Switch.
We're working on it! Thanks for your comment. Let us know if there's anything else you'd like reviewed.
Probably way too soon but... any idea on Home Assistant compatibility?
Good question - we don't have a definite answer on that yet but it would be good to know. We'll try and find out.
I've got one working just fine via ZHA and Home Assistant. I've posted photos of the integration on the HA Uk Facebook group. Works 100%. It does not yet work fully on the ZigbeeMQTT integration though.
I’m here to know this too
the 30 zigbee motor, works fine for me on Home Assistant with ZHA integration :-)
@@chrishampele181 Amazing to hear - I've just taken receipt of a 28 zigbee motor - but I can not get it to pair with any third party hub. Did you have to do anything before ZHA would see it? Set it up in the Somfy Pro app?
Are you still able to program the remote to the motor without using the tahoma pro app or the tahoma? If so, is the programing of the remote and limits the same as the rts?
Hi, yes you can programme the remote directly to the motor without the app, but this would be pretty pointless as you won't benefit from any of the Zigbee functionality you're paying extra money for. Setting the limits is slightly harder/more complex than RTS but when setting up through the app the extra functions you can configure are a nice touch. We now have these motors in stock.
"extra money" - do we know what the cost/premium us for these yet please?@@umbrashading
Hi, what do you do press if youre setting it up on a 5 channel or 16 chanel remote? And you have multiple blinds in one room?
Very helpful, thanks! I managed to follow the pairing process in my Nice Era 6 P until the motor rotates 3 times, which seems to be the end of successful pairing. However, test in the app does nothing and cannot control via app. Any idea? Thanks!
0:15 Love the concentrated death ray between the two curtains 🤦🏽
No such thing. The lighting doesn't change at all and is typical of a standard window. Thanks for your comment.
That's the Light of Alfheim lmao
the point of installing blinds is so that you dont need the curtains anymore. curtains are filthy and a pita to clean
The light is being manipulated.
You're absolutely right. The light is being manipulated by the blinds and curtains themselves. The light itself, however, doesn't change.
I guess you unplug the device to turn it off, there is no power switch. Also the buttons on the back are not marked so I don't know which one is the D button.
some audio would be nice
Could you please do a video on adding an Elero device, and learning from the existing remote? The app instructions are unclear
do you have a similar video with Elero example ?
Hi, Not as yet, however, I'll raise this with our team to see if it's something we can arrange for the future. Many thanks - Matthew @ Umbra.
I'd use both
Where to buy
Thank you you are still helping us out ❤ from Kurdistan ❤
What can you do if each of the blinds do not have a separate isolation switch. We had to put all the bedrooms on the same isolation switch
Can i use the tahoma switch and still use my 4 channel remote at the same time? In case my phone is away !!!
Hi there, yes you are able to use the TaHoma in conjunction with any other RTS/iO remotes or switches.
Hey Harry - Somfy owner in the US here - Somfy have not quite released this product in the US yet, but eager to pick up this device as my home is fully Homekit and the blinds are the last missing piece. All blinds are RTS - do you think ill have an issue ordering Tahoma Switch from the UK for it to work in the US? Cheers
Hi, from an RTS compatibility angle I don’t think this would be an issue however the Tahoma is not Homekit compatible for indoor shades unfortunately. - Charley
This video gives a perfect picture of the yubii app. Total disaster, full of bugs and errors
But check out the new one.... worth a look :) kzread.info/dash/bejne/hKuAqaiJcpeXY5s.html
im still having problems with connecting my hc3 with the qr code and manually. Can you help?
H Mile, The HC3 is not a Yubii product. You'd need to speak to whoever you purchased it from for tech support. - Charley
If I were a nightshift worker or lived in Alaska I’d do both
'limited light exclusion'. It would help if you closed the curtains properly, and not had light entering the room!
not to mention, curtains supposed to swipe the floor as well to get that full blackout
Would have been helpful to show the blind closed and then the curtain to see if there is an extra benefit to even having the curtain.
I guess you didn't watch the video. He does close the blind.
@@phototristan He never shows the blinds closed without the curtain or the lights being on, so you can't see if the blinds alone would be enough.
@@tijgertjekonijnwordopgegeten you can see it at the end lmfao, yall blind
@@shamrock7599 He had the blinds closed, curtains open, and lights on. It doesn't show blinds alone without lights.
Thank's for all your videos which were for me very interesting to configure my new Yubii. However, i'm stopped on 2 ways : 1_ How to update the yubii firmware ? 2_ How to do "scenarios" ? I can't find no help to do this. Thank's
Hi Jean, glad you found our videos helpful! We don't currently have videos for this unfortunately - have you tried calling the Nice Motors UK number and speaking to their technical support team? Their number is 01623 558 086 . - Charley
Very helpful, once you’ve paired a device how can you connect to Alexa ?
Hi there! If you open your Alexa app, go to the 'Devices' section and tap 'YOUR SMART HOME SKILLS' then 'ENABLE SMART HOME SKILLS', then search for Fibaro Smart home. Then you just need to enable that skill, log in with your Fibaro ID and it should now appear in your Alexa app! - charley
Very helpful, thanks. I’m setting mine up to open the electric gate in my drive. Do you know how to then connect it to Alexa so I can ask Alexa to open the gate?
❤
Very impressive clear and precise and no waffle like most others!
Glad you liked it!
