thank you
Great and easy fix ! Thanks
I’ve had both Hearthstone and Woodstock and prefer the latter
It seems very dangerous to use an angle grinder without it's protective guard. 2:02
Nice job. You made it look so easy. Did you renail those shingles that you took out on the upper side of flashing, or did you just caulk the shingles back down. How many nails are you putting in flashing. And are they 1" roofing nails. I never did this type of job, but i know i can do it. I been looking at different videos. Some guys i seen dont put a beed of caulk on the bottom of the flashing. Im just not sure about that also. Im in a high wind, and i do get heavy rain from time to time. What type of caulking are you using, I installed a furnace in my garage, and this is the last thing i have to do. My stove pipe parts are coming this week. Do you have any other video of you doing more of these. Thank you. If you could just answer a few of my questions, i would appreciate it.
Do you cover nails with tar/sealant?
Don't you need to add venting in the stone?
The stone has a gap allowing for some air flow and extra oxygen for combustion.
Does that tube connect with fresh air or just air from within the stove. Was thinking of doing same thing
didn’t say how to change temp…
I watched it three times... this music is lit I'm not sure what that other guy is doing
How long does the pipe last?
just use 25mm tech screws next time
Hello I have a concern about insulation behind the insert unit or in the chimney framing . The outside wall for chimney is plywood and plywood panels, the inside wall will be sheet rock. Of course none goes close by the fireplace but up inside the 15ft framing leading to roof is open air which will come through the internal walls
Do you have any of that Marco fireplace chimney pipe for sale I'm having a hard time locating it
Marco is discontinued. If you send me a photo of what you need I may be able to direct you to the right company.
What is the purpose of the mesh? Did you only need that because you have carpeting underneath?
The metal lath is for the mortar to grab onto. Concrete with steel is much stronger and will prevent cracking. The carpet is NOT relevant take it out or leave it. If you remove the carpet and you have a wood subfloor you will need to nail down some metal lath to keep the mortar from cracking. If you have a concrete slab i would use some large format tile mortar... thanks for the question
Clear as mud! 😵💫
The Valor remote is a little bit of a learning curve but once you figure it out it isn't complicated.
Incredibly frustrating remote control. Does not consistently work, battery is fresh and I read the instructions. If the pilot needs restarting better brew up a pot of coffee.
Did you check the batteries in the receiver? The Valor remote batteries the in the receiver usually need to be changed every year.
Very smooth control and distance. Great info
Thanks for the kind words!
Cast steel or steel for welds...? + simple: slot at the bottom, 2 vertical sheets - curved sheets at the top, and pierced - a short sheet = low air inlet a long sheet = high air inlet
It is all mild steel welding, no cast. Thanks for the comments! Good luck on the Pizza Oven Wood Stove!
My fire place looks similar to that but has a gas line, is it possible to burn wood in a gas fireplace? Someone in our neighborhood app once commented the gas line was a log starter. Thoughts?
Absolutely do not burn wood in a gas fireplace. That being said it is definitely possible that the gas line is a log starter. Is it an open fireplace like the one in the photo. A gas fireplace would be airtight and have a sealed glass front (not a folding glass door). Decorative glass doors can be added to a wood fireplace but they can be opened. The best way to know is to look inside the fireplace and see if there is a damper that you can open and close. The 3rd possibility is that you have a vent free fireplace. If that it the case there would be no venting in the top and you absolutely should burn wood. I don't recommend using a vent free fireplace at all. See this link for an article about the hazard of vent free fireplaces. www.maplemtnfireplace.com/vent-free
@mrEnergy511 my fire place is open no glass door, it does have a damper to open and close at the top.
@@sergiorodriguez1107 if that is true you can pipe gas into the fireplace for a log lighter or just install a gas log set and not have the hassle of dealing with wood and ash. My preferred method is to have a real wood fire 🔥
Pizza oven - in wood insert: refractory bricks on the sides, 2-3mm steel plate on top (plate surface = insert surface - chimney flue surface) thin sheet metal folded like a box/flame guard, slate tiles (and/or small electric oven rack) to limit heating to metal plate level makes excellent pizza not very good for focaccia or bread (too muche heat on surface, & not such thermal mass maybe)
Great idea for cooking pizza in your wood insert!
You don't say why this is the wrong model for Utah. I live in NW Wyoming. My new house came with a Majestic 36 inch SB60. The whole thing just looks flimsy and smokes, even with a window cracked.
You are 100% right. These prefab fireplaces are not made for cold weather. The are for aesthetics only. You would want to replace it with a more efficient heat rated airtight fireplace. Even a freestanding wood stove would be a much better option and more efficient.
Great video. Covers all the basics. ⭐️
Thanks for watching
Is this video from Ontario?
No this video on stove installation is in Utah
so you can put insulation and what not right against the chimney pipe?
The class A chimney pipe that I am displaying has a 2" clearance to combustible materials.
@@mrEnergy511 so that means I can put insulation right up against it?
Had one of those Under if I can install a insert chimney inside?
If it will fit. It is not rated for it so a better option is a hearth heater.
We had a downdraft problem. Installed a VacUStack and while it didn’t cure it completely, it was a huge improvement.
The VacUStack works great for high wind but for inversion we recommend a Draw Collar. Another solution for a chimney not drafting is to extend the height of your chimney pipe.
Thank you, doing the same project! Are you concerned with air transfer or one side being blocked/vastly different temps/stagnant air?
Not at all, it is not an airtight garage nor is it insulated. Because it is a garage, it is also not heated or cooled.
Nice gloves! 😉 Great vid, Matt!
Thanks for the kind words!
=( Hearthstone don't offer it in red anymore
That's a bummer! I loved the red!
Do these have a blower ?
You can buy after market blowers for any wood burning fireplace. Call your local fireplace retailer and ask about one.
Thanks for your video, I am just working on the same project. What thickness of steel did you use?
The inside steel in the cookstove was 1/8"
you gonna hurt yourself look up barberchair always need a face cut
Thanks for your concern. Cut down HUNDREDS of trees and I’m not showing how to do it… just what I’m making out of dead wood. Appreciate the comment!
Love the look of that stove. Researching now.. how do you like it?.is there a website with info? Thank you.
This stove is very well engendered and you will pay the price for it! Small stove as well They only heat 1000 sq ft... I've been out of the business for almost 4 years not sure on the price.
I am from India it's really informative ❤ about traditional fireplace
Awesome! Thank you!
are plans available for this?
I don't have plans but I sell kits. See my website: bricknflame.com/about/
Imagine explaining to your Insurance Co that the house burned down due to an electrical fire with the wood stove.
We installed several of these draw collars at the base of the pipe with no issues. The cord comes off the collar itself and plugs into the wall just like a blower on the stove wood. There is no electrical wire in the stove or the attic.
Just stick some paper up top and light it first. Open a door or window too. I didn't believe the price but uh, yeah $100 item max, not 700,someone thinks they hit a gold mine. Humanity and wood stove have done without this for Millennia. Some yuppie hipster trying to make it rich.
I owned a retail fireplace store and this draw collar worked amazing for customers. It was invented by someone in Utah to help with the inversion issue we frequently have in the winter.
Fake
Just trying to get attention so that people understand how dangerous it is. We just had a neighbor blow themselves up with a propane tank. Here is a video on how to do it safely. Propane Safety: How to Safely Open and Cut into a Propane Tank kzread.info/dash/bejne/lZthurt8ZK6rZdI.html
If there was any pressure in that tank equivalent to a normal propane tank I think the valve would become a projectile
Nice observation
omg really guys?! yes its dangerus to take a valve off a pressureised tank, but a empty tank is fine
Is that bottled fire?
its a propane tank.. so kinda? its flammable gas but technically bottled fire isnt wrong in this case
Way better! Good job
Thank you!
How did you connect your doublwall stove pipe to the class a at the thimble?
All Chimney Pipe manufacturers make a Stove Pipe adaptor that makes it simple. See this link for one example: www.hartandcooley.com/products/tlcspa/stovepipe-adapter
Where do I get one? How much does it cost?
I sale a DIY Pizza oven kit that you can finish at home on your own surface for $1499. See my website for more information and my contact info. bricknflame.com/about/
I live here in the Salt Lake valley and the only thing I have against switching to gas stoves/fire places is in the event of a major disaster that the gas and power is cut off for days or weeks what do you heat your home with? I have a small pot belly stove and the only reason it's in my home is for emergency heat, other than that it's never used. I don't know how anyone can afford to use a gas stove/fire place just for the fun of it. They need to make stoves that work on both gas and wood. If Biden had his way there would be nothing being burned, everything would be ran off power but if the power is out then nothing runs, no heat, cooking, A/C, fridge/freezers, in the winter people would freeze to death. When I was young we all used our wood burning stoves and fire places, my parents couldn't afford to run the furnace, our wood burning fire place heated the house. We would step outside and some times we could smell the wood burning but the air was still good even with everyone burning. They say our air is cleaner today than it was back then but I beg to differ! Back then we could see both mountain ranges all winter long but now even with no burning during the winter all it takes is one day of high pressure and both mountain ranges are gone in a sea of pollution and we can see and smell it just looking across the street and we are stuck in it for days/weeks. We didn't have to keep our homes sealed up tight and run air purifiers to try and breath clean air back then. It's not the wood burning stoves, it's all the crap that runs on gasoline and diesel plus all the pollution that factories and other plants put out. Even natural gas is not completely clean. If the pollution gets bad enough they start asking everyone to cut back on running their furnaces and other natural gas burning devices. I just think people need to think of emergency preparedness, that's where my mind goes.
You make a lot of good points, and I agree with most of what you said. I also think of what I would do in case of emergencies and prep for the situations that you mentioned. I have a wood burning pizza oven, an old wood burning cook stove, and a freestanding wood burning stove. I live in Utah county. As a retail fireplace store, we participated in the change out program and did find that there were people that it really helped. There are also some things that I had never considered such as people with allergies that are very sensitive to smoke. It is not a one size fits all but as for myself, I will always love the smell of wood-burning stove! Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching!
Atupid citys require a gd pipe to be so dam long.
The Chimney pipe code is so it your woodstove will vent correctly. If you go short on the chimney pipe the smoke will not draw and you will get smoke in your home.
Thank you
You're welcome
Looks like flashing is reversed backwards 😲
I agree the roof flashing looks like it is backwards in the video. If you go to the end of the stove install video you will see that the pipe is level. If the flashing was backwards than the stove pipe would not be level.
I'd just eliminate that big ugly box and tubes laying there and make some kind of unit that fits up over the firebox inside the fireplace with the tubes just under the upper lip of the fireplace opening to blow the heat into the room.
Awesome! I'd love to see it when you finish!
