Hello how are you strumming the mutted 3 strings in bar 7 after the chord progression looks like you mute the top strings with 3 fingers then play 2nd high string string first fret I'm trying to do the mutted strummy bit. I'm getting there until I got to this bit

  • @opentuningguitar

@@user-ik2pe6jo1z I think I know the spot you're referring to. Around 0.50? It looks like I missed the muted strings in the tab. I'm thinking it should be a mute, then some very quick open strings, then the chord on the first fret, second string. Sorry, that was the second video I made for youtube, and the tabs and my playing are both pretty sloppy.

Thank you! For me, I think a mix of learning other people's songs and experimenting with your own stuff is great for creativity. Even though this song sounds nothing like it, I started out wanting to write something like Oh Me by the Meat Puppets, and it evolved into this.

Sounds good, were you listening to Skip James?

  • @opentuningguitar

Yes, I've been listening to him. I really like the albums from the 60s. It's cool hearing the recordings from the 30s, then seeing what they're like with high-quality production. I'm not sure if my song is influenced by him, though. His playing is too weird to try to copy.

@@opentuningguitar Skip James had his unique style and phrasing but learning his style or songs is not as hard as it sounds. Mastering them is the hard part. The hammer-ons you did at the end is very reminiscent of Skip's style.

Dark Was The Night is an archetypical blues, the best slide song ever. The issue is what people think of blues, is really rock with blues elements in it and that's a shame because they are missing out on some beautiful art.
