Dit is de beste opleiding van Nederland als je vanuit verschillende disciplines maatschappelijke vraagstukken wilt aanpakken. Het aanpakken van de personeelstekorten in de zorg is een toepasselijk voorbeeld.

I'm Russian living in the Netherlands for 3 years. My weird things: 1. They criticize my character and my personal life. I'm lonely, don't have real friends and never had a partner. For me it's OK, but they hate me. "Tolerant" Dutch people call me direct "asociaal" (asocial). 2. Their climate policy. Such as in other European countries they're going crazy about the climate change. They deliberately asked me about my private life (it's not polite in my culture). I was even criticized for taking a shower for 15 minutes (I always need 15 minutes for being absolutely clean and relaxed or 10 minutes with stress). Their radical climate activists try to make everyone to do that within 5 minutes. 3. If they know, that I'm a Russian citizen, they deliberately try to talk about politics and about national conflicts, for example, about MH-17 air disaster. I hate it, and I always try to stop those conversations. 4. They're too direct. If Dutch people don't like you, they always try to send you back. "You don't have relatives and friends here. Go back! Go away!" 5. They drink alcohol and smoke MORE than Russian people. It's really so. For them it's normal to drink many times a week and smoke on the streets. It's not prohibit to advertise alcohol here. In Russia you're not allowed to drink in public places and smoke on the main streets, and advertisements of alcohol and tobacco are prohibited. The Russian government tries to stop the alcohol and tobacco consumption. And in Russia nobody is allowed to use drugs. I personally don't drink alcohol, don't smoke and don't use drugs. P.S. After getting my diploma (I still need to study for about 2,5 years) I'm going to move.

I'm sorry for your bad experience in the Netherlands. You ended up in social circles that do not care very much for foreigners or just plain hate them. Most of the Dutch people don't have any problems with foreigners, as long as the foreigners at least make an effort to adjust to our culture to a certain degree. Perhaps you'd be better off if you socialised with people who are more open and welcoming to foreigners. You write that you need to be here for another 2,5 years, so it's well worth the effort to meet people who will accept you as you are.

If you want to take part in Dutch society: Learn Dutch. If you need local friends: Learn Dutch. Remember that this is a Dutch society where we speak Dutch and live in a Dutch culture. No matter how you look at it: English is a foreign language to us Dutch people. We more or less speak foreignish English. And the only reason why we do so is to serve the foreigners. Do you want to stay foreigner/stranger/visitor? By all means stick to English. In that case the message you are providing to the Dutch is: I do not care to learn Dutch, nor am I interested in Dutch culture. And you are also saying: Basically I am just briefly here and soon I am on my way out of here. You'll find out that the conversations with the Dutch will stay superficial and getting Dutch friends is going to be a challenge. It is all about respect, interest and investment. See If you are not interested in us... we are not interested in you! If you do not want to invest in yourself to learn Dutch, then we do not invest in you having a friendship with you. After all you are a guest in our country. And so you are a guest in our language as well, just like you are a guest in our culture. Want no longer to be a guest and become one of us? Learn to speak Dutch! And become Dutch as you take place in Dutch society. Picture this: What if I would want to go live in your country, and I refuse to speak the local language and stick to Dutch...and as a matter of fact I demand the locals of your country to talk back to me in Dutch as well... would that be respectful? Would that be in my personal interest? Would that lead to the desired achievement? Would that lead to local friends? Think about it ! Just saying...

The reason Dutch students don't mix with foreign students is just the language. I like to work in English. No problem. But privately, I want to use Dutch. Sorry, in this country it still is the official language. I would have great difficulty expressing myself in English on an emotional level. My English is simply not good enough for that. So, if you want to mingle, learn Dutch first. Preferably before you come here. Personally I have my doubts that half of the students at Dutch universities is foreign. Even though they pay 20.000 Euro a year (for non Eu residents), it is still a small fraction of the cost. I would say, let them pay 100.000-250.000 a year, which is the cost, and then they are welcome. I don't see why the Dutch tax payer has to pay half of what goes to higher education to educate the world. That being said, I would be in favor of making all higher education in the world UN funded. Then, I have no problems at all anymore with foreign students.

Paying 20K in tuition fees would not be a burden to the Dutch taxpayers at all because the actual cost is lower than that. You want foreign students out of the country? Fine, but don't use lies.

Very nice movie. What I miss is that most foreign students don't mix with the dutch students. They seam to live in totally seperated groups. They meet only on a few occasions, at sports for example. Big reason for this is the different timemanagement styles, I think.
