    i intend to hook up 6 pianos via their mono L/R cables into the channel inputs of this Zoom....but what if i accidentally hit the phantom power switch?....will that damage the pianos?...thanks

  • @RayOrtega
    @RayOrtega15 күн бұрын

    Can't say for sure 100% but phantom power sends power down XLR cables, not 1/4" line or instrument cables so it doesn't sound like it would be an issue. Maybe more accurately, phantom power should not be going to the 1/4" inputs on the combo inputs you see on the L12, it should only be sending phantom to the XLR input when turned on. Found a thread where someone is asking about this for their Moog so it's similar to what you are doing and might provide extra insight www.reddit.com/r/synthesizers/comments/14dmv1w/trs_cables_and_phantom_power/

    Would not recommend this mic to anyone. My friend bought it and its not syncing easy and has ton of issues! for example opening the camera app will stop the recording when minimizing the app,... No internal recording this mic is worth less than 90 bucks there are better options out there... better options are there under 200 and the top of the line mics are 400...

    I started podcasting in late 2013 with a Rode Podcaster USB mic, upgraded in 2015 to a SM7B. Now in 2024 I am looking at the MV7 Plus just to make podcasting simple. I've never been pleased with all in one units like the Rodecaster or DLZ Creator. To my ears, nothing beats the old analog sound of a Mackie 1402 VLZ3/4 with a DBX 286S. But for simplicity sake, I may upgrade/downgrade to this USB mic.

I know it’s hard to swallow that when you paid 400$ for your mic, but you can’t just talk trash when you pretend to be a reviewer, you gotta pass that and be honest with people. Yeah it's a bummer that it doesn't come with both types of cables but I have a cable like this one (USBA to USBC) that I tested and it worked fine amzn.to/4aBFsFd. Not all cables and USB connections are the same, in my experience, but hopefully a cable like this will do what you need. These are a dime a dozen so buy whatever works for you and make sure it's returnable in case it doesn't work for you.

    The one I linked to is Belkin which is just like all the other brands (Anker, etc). I generally like those two brands for third party parts. I don't think there will be any affect on quality, from what I know they're all just transferring 1 and 0s as opposed to what you find with analog where the signal can be affected by the cable. I'm also far from an expert so this is just my off-the-cuff assumptions and based on what I've tried.

  • @RayOrtega
    @RayOrtegaАй бұрын

    I've heard that too but I don't hear it. Sounds great on my voice but that's just one sample. The key is to listen to all the samples you can find here and decide how it sounds to you, not necessarily how the reviewer thinks it sounds. As reviewers, we test a lot of mics and gear and we get way down in the weeds and tend to hear the smallest detail that 99.9% of the audience will never hear. I think it sounds great but it's definitely subjective and the only thing you can do is decide if it's good to you. Apart from there being an actual problem with the mic, it's going to just be opinion. So far I haven't heard of any issues with the mic, just opinions;) Thanks for watching.

    No matter that use it at home if you’re a musician you are a friend but if you’re yourself playing just your own music better at home otherwise rent a PA system and if you’re a good musician or you can sign you really don’t need right tomorrow but no I would not play out with it! I'm listening through Audio Technica M50s, and the two sound astonishingly similar--much more so than several other people's tests. I wonder whether if it's something about the timber of your voice? Or just having the settings dialed in to really nail it?

  • @RayOrtega
    @RayOrtegaАй бұрын

    You probably have it right both ways. Definitely different voices will matter and that’s why it’s great that there are so many reviews so that hopefully you can find someone who has a similar voice to your own. There isn’t too much processing here but the MV7+ was using light compression and the Denoise was on. And the SM7B had some light compression to match but mostly they were just level matched. The SM7b is darker in its sound otherwise they sound very similar on my voice.

    I have used Mackie's for more years than I care to admit. I use them for gigs and I use them for recording, and I use them as sub mixers in the signal chain! Mackie is NOT kidding when they say that they are built like a tank. When you are doing gigs - if they are not tough (and I mean tough) they are going to let you down. If they don't have enough head room - they will let you down, if they can't keep working when dropped, and yanked, they will let you down. Mackie has NEVER ever let me down. They are very quiet (no internal noise, NO scratchy pots, SOLID connections - even after YEARS of use). I have had lots of things fail on stage, cables, mics, power cables, but never a Mackie. You still want to treat your equipment well and take care of it, but gigging on stage, loading in and loading out? Things can happen (and unfortunately do). OK, I have written enough, get a Mackie, they won't let you down, and will always sound great!!

  • @RayOrtega
    @RayOrtegaАй бұрын

    Thanks for sharing your experience, Cynthia. I would agree. Only issue I ever had with one was an early model USB version and the phantom power switch has a loose connection and the USB had a hum which Mackie acknowledge and fixed in the next generation. But I have still used the same mixer for live shows and it handled everything I threw at it. Great stuff.

Were I looking for a mic that's solid enough for podcasting, online video game nights, and videos, the Shure MV7+ would be hard to pass by. I love my SM7B, but I don't use it for everything, simply because there's more set up. Both mics seem solid, and now when people ask me which mic to get, I can point them here 😀

Q2U a little smoother so that’s my goto reco in that range.

I have an absolutely beautify and unknown 16 ch analog mixer which I bought for a smidge over 25 usd. It is the South Korean, Woosun Focus FC-1602 Professional Mixing Console. I bought it, just to make some noise and explore No-Input Mixing. (The 1/4" or 6.35mm Jack is TRS with the Tip being the carrier.) Does this mean I'll need a specially wired patch cable? If so, how would I wire it? Also, what is the absolutely cheapest, doesn't have to be current, multi-input analog to USB-In interface you'd recommend? I'm looking for a viable interface that will preserve multiple track input into my DAW from this mixer, and your video is the closest I've come to that topic, period. Cheers.
