    Hey guyz.. am teaching myself oil painting, i just want an advice or a suggestion on whether are there specific colours that are best or needed in doing an underpainting or any colour that you feel comfortable with can work?

    You can do an underpainting in any colour but I prefer earth tones as they suit most subjects raw umber or burnt umber are my go to

    I usually eliminate the white of the surface because simply its too much of a glare ... discovered later that it was called under painting , a touch of good quality varnish does wonders in painting both in under painting n the actual work itself ... Good video n info ...

    It’s oils. But you can get a similar result with acrylic. You just can’t erase acrylic

    This is not fair. You paint a pear with underpainting and do the same without, so half the work. To really compare results you will have to paint the side without underpainting in another way because now it misses a lot of color and depth.

  • @MazArtStudio
    @MazArtStudio22 күн бұрын

    I agree but was trying to demonstrate how easy it is (certainly for beginners) to get their tones right when using an underpainting. Working alla prima means you need to think of colour and value at the same time and most beginners don’t do this properly so end up with a more washed out result (like mine).

    Thank you Marion for this tutorial - so much useful information for an absolute beginner like me so I've just subscribed. I couldn't find the brushes on the link to your blog. I realise this is old and you might not see the question but if anyone else knows, perhaps you could let me know what kind of brush was used for the petals and leaves? I wasn't sure of the shape - is it a flat or angled? If you can recommend a particular brand, that would be great! I was impressed how tidy and clean you are - I end up with paint smeared all over my hands, every time I open a tube, or wipe a brush on paper towel, or move the canvas to get to the bottom bit. Would love to figure out how to avoid the mess.
