  The Germans didn't do anything different to what the Russian did to their own people, how many people starved in the 30's in Ukraine 30 million people ,how many people did NKVD murdered

  Thanks Stephen for that excellent talk on Morgan’s COSSAC role. Sorry I missed it live (Gary told me about it but diary confusion prevented me from tuning in (i.e. I misremembered the date!.) Always good to hear views from the other side of the pond. When talking about Overlord in the Q&A session you mentioned that they studied everything in great detail in preparation for the big day, - which is absolutely true, if you leave aside the small matter of battlefield close air support! It’s amazing how even now this incredibly serious omission gets overlooked. (“What are you talking about, we flew 14,000 sorties”, is the normal incredulous response to such suggestions.) This was something that Morgan and his team were actually getting right. "Intimate" air support as the troops advanced across the beaches, with aircraft engaging targets immediately ahead of the first wave, was an important part of their plans (and there was some very imaginative thinking within the War Office on how it should be delivered). But then the so called “experts” from the Mediterranean rocked up and that was the end of that!! Greg Baughen
