    My 2018 lg bearing seal failed started leaking for about 2 months only pulled the back off because of an electrical buzzing and nothing was coming out clean. Was far to much work for me and never done the drum before so decided to just get a new one still a LG as my first one lasted over ten years I guess I was just unlucky with my last one and shouldn’t of ignored it for 2’months…

    If the bearings are bad it will make the noise all the time even spinning without a wash load. Try smaller loads that will balance better and see if that resolves it.

    We have a LG which is just 4 yrs old and it makes a noise when on fast spin when washing out of balance but is smooth and silent when turning drum or putting on spin with no washing in, would you agree that in this case the bearing must be sound altough I can feel very slight slack if I shake the drum. Thanks for any help

    Hey. I think I'm going to do this. I just paid to have the timing job done and thought it would be a shame to do all that work and not know I lost oil pressure. Is the view from your pic when flat on your back looking up at the rear passenger side of the block? I'm just not sure how you would be able to see that from underneath.

  • @thebestengines1413

    Yes the still pics are looking at it straight up - it was easier for me to reach through fender well to work on it while looking up at it. If your truck is older than 2009 think you will have other obstacles to deal with such as a dipstick tube on some earlier models- If you do install on pre 2009 post back your results as haven’t seen how others dealt with issues on older trucks

    No problem- and good deal as the best diagnostic tool for this 5.4 is monitoring oil pressure. Tapping that passenger side head really shows fluctuations in pressure. For example, watching with Forscan hooked up monitoring duty cycle controlling VCT operation the needle on the oil gauge will react in pressure readings the moment duty cycle commands VCT operation (when power breaking & upping / lowering RPM), cool to watch. Not sure if there's another location for temperature sending unit in that water jacket although I never looked. Good luck with project and post back your results.

    @@thebestengines1413 well... The dip stick tube is perfectly placed to block access from the fender. I could go above or below it, but mostly lost dexterity in the hand to be able to turn an allen key. I would need to unbolt the dip stick tube brace and see if it shifts out of the way. Might be time to buy a long impact wrench, or plug into the existing oil filter housing port and kill the instrument panel indicator. Thank you Ford -.- For reference, I'm 5'6" with small accountant arms.

    Thanks - access to that stock location was really tight because of the 4x4 unit. Never checked but think pressure could read slightly higher at the stock location if system were to develop any blockages further down the line or bleed off at the crank and rod bearings - the oil galley tap should indicate this with a lower pressure reading.

    The ziptie will not provide enough tension around entire perimeter to deal the deal enough for vacuum to work. I stead, apply some cheap 100% silicon and ziptie on top of that. Silicon can be removed if needed to open the case again and it will provide superior air tightness.

    @@thebestengines1413. The weird thing on my 2008 corolla is that after I erase the codes with my scanner after I drive my car for a few hours I come home at night and the only incomplete monitor is the evap but the next morning everything is green again all monitors are completed and normally it takes a whole week before the engine light comes back on, that actually helped me when I smog the car because everything was fine at that moment lol 😆 but light comes back on after a week so I'm just guessing that the pump is already starting to fail but sometimes it actually still works because it takes at least a week before the check engine light comes back again, but now I'm more convinced that it is the leak detection pump and not the whole canister, autozone has it for 250 dollars but I will get it from the dealership I'm pretty sure it won't be that much expensive.

    outside of a remote bore scope camera to look at the tensioner, through a hole in the timing chain cover, the oil pressure gauge is at least a way to approximate a best guess about the condition of the oil system. While pressure and volume do not necessarily have a one to one relationship I am of the opinion that in this scenario you can rest assured that adequate volume is present in the left cylinder head. Running pressure of approx. 40 psi is what your gauge showed and that is PLENTY. That reading is more important than an idle oil pressure reading. I share your curiosity about the root cause of these failures. We hear only about the ones that fail....what about the likely tens of thousands of these engines that never have a problem. Is it how the engine is operated in temperature extremes, is it some additive in a certain brand of oil that causes the seal to decay? Something peculiar for sure but the bottom line is that the potential for tensioner oil leak is in my estimation THE NUMBER ONE flaw in the 5.4 triton...low oil delivery.... is what leads to phaser, chain, valve follower's and cam bearing failures and it is all traceable back to the leaks at the tensioner or lack of oil maintenance.

  • @thebestengines1413
    @thebestengines14132 жыл бұрын

    Good points- that was partly the reason for posting this so if others decide to tap a gauge to that passenger head they can compare pressure to this known good stock engine/ pressure . Be nice if someone posted video of what you suggested - seal inspection with a bore scope .👍🏻

    @@thebestengines1413 I looked at my 09 after reply and a bore scope hole, in the cover, would be difficult. But it looks like it might be possible to snake the scope down the oil filler spout to see the tensioner. Won't know till I try it, will have the risk that the bore scope wraps up in the rotating phaser when engine running. Got to thinking that a gauge off the oil filter boss would be an interesting comparison to the right side rear of the head...reveal any pressure differentials.

    So can you purchase the pump separately from the Toyota dealership, and when all this 5 codes come on it doesn't necessarily mean that it needs the whole evap canister ? Also if I purchase the whole Evap canister is the pump included or is it a separate part ? I just got this codes yesterday and my 2008 runs great so I don't mind paying over 400 dollars for the canister at the dealership but if the pump is the actual problem then I'll probably have to replace that too.

    @@thebestengines1413 . There's a video here on KZread this guy bought the whole evap canister for a little more than 400 and it was an oem Toyota part, but if the dealership sells the pump for less than 200 I'm OK with that my 2008 practically runs perfect, zero leaks it only had one owner when I bought it 2 years ago it was very well maintained and even at 175 thousand miles is difficult to find a 2008 Toyota corolla at the dealerships for less than 9000 dollars It suppose to be one of the best years I'm planning to keep it until it reaches 400 thousand miles it has the potential to last me that long that's why I don't mind paying more for OEM parts. I erased the codes already I'm just waiting for the monitors to be completed and if the check engine light comes on then I'll decide what to do, I had nothing but old Toyotas the past 10 years and is weird There's been a few times that the check engine light comes on but is a false alarm after I have erased the codes, it never came back again, specially with codes related to running lean, or oxygen sensor related but we'll see what happens with this one I'm just glad that is very easy to get to, the 1998 camry is a little more of a pain to replace, this one looks pretty easy anyways thanks again.

    Thank you for a clear and comprehensive post. I wanted to mention its not just about pressure but also volume. So if the oil galleries have accumulated crud, as might happen when a 5.4 is sold from a fleet or owner where maintenance has been poor, perhaps a flush may be necessary. A mechanic with a lot of 5.4 experience just told me the head galleries are designed too small and require flushing from "time to time" with 1 qt. of transmission fluid. I'm reflecting on that.
