Dude, this song is hella powerful even when it first came out, it’s what made it such a huge hit. There’s not a lot of GENIUNE art out there that has the “damn the torpedoes” message like this song. Gregg is basically saying “I don’t care how fucked up this world is, I’m not going down with it.” That’s such a powerful and reinforcing message, it’s hard for the song not to reach such powerful feelings within us.

I always loved this song but it broke my heart, the parents behaviour. Now, my only living child is gay and he never had to worry about his extended family. He was worried about his mates, he grew up in a country town and is not at all feminine so no one ever knew. His mates have not changed and he is now 33. He has a partner and they’ve been together for 8yrs and he is like another son to me, I love him so much. I never would have guessed when I first heard this that I would be dealing with it myself, but he is still the same boy that I raised and love more than my life.

Mom passed away just before Easter. She took her last breath in my arms and no matter how sad that was .. I was overcome with this overwhelming peace knowing that is probably what she wanted ...to die in her son's arms. Words can't express the loss of a mother. All I can say is just remember all special moments you had with her and that will lesson the pain. I found the more you keep talking about the passing of your mom helps tremendously! Get out all the tears and emotions brother! NEVER hold it in!
