    Hi, There are two options without a v-guitar power supply. 1. A simple PP3 dual 9V battery pack adapter with snap-on PP3 clips and protection diodes. 2. Dedicated dual boxed 9V PP3 battery unit, ON/OFF switch, 13-Pin socket and battery status LEDs. Two fully charged 9V batteries last about 7-8 hours. And yes they are availble with the cable. separate-strings.co.uk

    Hi I_ffoo, Do not see a problem with UK-Saudi Arabia shipping, need to check. Yes, you can play all the GR55 PCM sounds using a normal guitar input, BUT you can only input a single string guitar input or a mono input. The main attraction with the cable, is using a GR55 as a normal guitar effects unit. Btw, the GR55 has the cleanest of all Roland/Boss v-guitar normal-guitar inputs, and that's why I am so enthusiastic about the cable. Regards, Bill separate-strings.co.uk

    @@I_ffoo Hi, Having just checked, shipping to Saudi has risks. Last month I gave instructions on the cable... "Hi, If you want to make the cable, check out the v-guitar forums and search for 'phantom power' pin 8. You will find the basic P8 volume resistor network schematic (thanks to Steve Conrad btw). The circuit delivers approximately 5VDC to GR-55 P8 'volume level. Next is P7 normal guitar input, using a standard well-screened guitar cable. Conductor goes to P7 and cable screen to DIN shell. For a monophonic GR-55 synth voice, connect a 100 ohms resistor from P7 to P5. The resistor offers a basic buffer between P7 & P5. P5 'String A' has the widest GR-55 note recognition of all string signal inputs. The cable is available for purchase at £30.00GBP, plus shipping. The two hidden advantages with using the adapter cable input, is external user buffer pedal choice, and a clean input path to the GR-55's A-D. In tests, the GR-55 harmonic distortion is much lower compared to a Boss GP-10 or a GT1 pedal. And of course the signal-to-noise ratio (with a hi-end external buffer circuit) can register a -100dB noise-floor. • @BaxBreakoutBox

    Hi Celticsaint777, A GKP-2 breakout box has several functions: 1. Hex GK3 separate string OUTPUTS to external effects, including MIDI converters like the Roland GI-20. 2. Recording and playing back separate strings from a DAW interface for hands-free patch changing tone-search etc. 3. GKP-2 is also an alternative to a GKP-2 distribution cable, with simultaneous control over two 13-pin v-guitar units. There are several movies here on KZread which show how separate string re-amping works. kzread.info/dash/bejne/jJWquM5wh7DTcaw.htmlsi=ZEGvdZqOdr8bvYlT Re-amping a Roland VG-88. kzread.info/dash/bejne/poSipqicmaWnYps.html Roland GR-55 re-amping with a breakout cable - much easier with a breakout box. kzread.info/dash/bejne/laCYt8igZtnRe7A.htmlsi=ZaTa8xn-LRbATJxy - Roland GR-55 re-amping with a breakout box. Naff tune though! Also check out the Bozz GP-10 v-guitar unit for 13-pin GK3 use. It has usb separate strings I/O and MIDI OUT for external synths etc. www.boss.info/uk/products/gp-10/ Sadly, the Boss GP-10 cannot do analog separate strings to DAW interfaces and mixers etc. A breakout box has analog separate strings to almost any input. • @BaxBreakoutBox
    @BaxBreakoutBox11 ай бұрын

    Hi Ferran, Thanks for your comment. I did not want to add too much detail to the GK Extreme preamp you description, without sending everyone to sleep. Here goes: 1. Six GK Feedback resistors set to 51k on each string op-amp. 47k might be more gentle and less of an overload risk. 2. Diecast case for GK Extreme housing. It shields the circuit from EMI and radio frequency noise. 3. Hi-end through-hole audio components, And opa1656 state-of-the-art op-amp. 4. Grounded GK3 sensor pickup lowers the noise-floor by 1dB. 5. Battery power supply for GK Extreme. Lowers the noise-floor by 2-3dB. All of those points 1-5 improves the noise-floor by about 5dB minimum, and the 47K/51K improves the noise-floor by around 7-10dB. The slightly bright GK Extreme audio is due to opa1656 op-amp, and something called 'High gain-bandwidth', which allows high-frequency audio transients to pass easily. All op-amps gave this factor, and can be heard on old op-amp designs from the 80s (dull sounding NE5532 op-amp). Finally, the apparent GK Extreme brightness is underlined by the much lower noise-floor. Finally, finally, a well screened GK 13-pin helps and ensures a maximum signal-to-noise. Thanks for the question. Bill

    I'm a tech and don't recommend using that EL Tape to backlight an R8. The LCD sits on a very sensative chip board that is highly sensative to magnetic noise which is why it's so heavily shielded from the rest of the unit. They still sell this tape on ebay and other places but they're all from china with very cheap under-built noisy inverters that will put a terrible high pitch sound in all your outputs. You can't filter out that type of noise the way this machine is built with a proprietary lcd panel. It's not hard at all to backlight an R8 for show but say goodbye to your sound quality. It's the reason why you won't see many video's with a backlit R8.

  • @BaxBreakoutBox

    Hi Good Dog, Super drummer John Hiseman. Concerning drum programming, in Sound Forge it's possible to work out ANY drum fill, using target EQ filters. Time-stretching bars is also easy using metered quantise. Shame about the Roland MKII sounds, but these can be replaced with drumagog samples. You might enjoy my drum score on the Wishbone Ash track Enigma, where I totally sh*t all over their generic drummer. kzread.info/dash/bejne/e5p1x5N8fs7PqLw.html

    It would be cool to get this "remastered" with KZread's introduction of B-format spatial audio support.

    My iem has a small soundstage(about around my head range) but it still works. But for some reason, the bass felt like its left behind.

    Hi MrBroxMan, It's all down to the Roland GR55 hex bass fender precision bass model sound (separate bass strings btw but mixed in mono). Compared to a real fender precision, it sounds artificial and lacks depth. Thanks for your critical comment! regards, Bill

    How much it will cost?

    Hi, The cable is now a simple 13-pin multicore. The power supply is overkill, but the individual separate string screen are a major advantage over a simple Roland 13-pin cable. Cost is £60 GBP plus shipping. Probably not worth the trouble IMHO. Regards, Bill

    Is there somewhere we can download an FLAC or master file of the song only? Its great for testing soundstage but TY compression sucks.

    Thanks AeroCaliber, The track is nearly 10 years old and feel as though it hasn't aged much. Today we have much better audio know-how, compared to when the original was produced in 1972. Link kzread.info/dash/bejne/p4uLpY9roLO5oqg.html I'll do a full version of the track one day, and throw the kitchen sink at it. Thanks again, Bill Bax

    Just to clarify, can i just plug the low A and E string into a bass amp, and the others to a guitar amp? no external power needed? thanks

  • @BaxBreakoutBox
    @BaxBreakoutBox2 жыл бұрын

    Hi GTR, If you have an RMC or Ghost hex pickup/preamp using an internal PP3 9V battery supply, you will generally NOT need an external power supply. If you are using a Roland GK3/3B/GK2A hex pickup/preamp, a dual +/- 7-9VDC power supply is needed. A simple dual battery power supply is available. Maybe no problem with Low A and E strings into a bass amp (you will have to combine them into a 2-1 1/4" adapter). String D, G, B & Top E might need a summing mixer into the guitar amp. Summing all inputs without a mixer buffer will most likely have a detrimental effect on the audio. You could use a stereo summing mixer and combine Bottom E & A into one channel, and the rest into the other - this is probably a better bet. Regards, Bill

    @@BaxBreakoutBox I have to say i appreciate the detailed response and recommendations. Sounds like you have alot of experience in these matters. I have an older Brian Moore i8 guitar with piezo pickups and roland output. It's basically a 3 voice guitar. Stereo 1/4" output that uses a splitter cable for the Humbucker output and piezo output, and 3rd is the 13 Pin output. The guitar requires 9 volt battery. Not sure if this is for the humbucker, the piezo or the 13 Pin part. Not sure if that information helps.

    @@mygtr2021 Hi GTR, Thanks for the guitar hex preamp details. The 9V battery is for your internal hex preamp, powering at least six opamps, mainly for separate string signals to a v-guitar unit/synth. I would like to backlight my R8 MKII but yahoo group is no longer and do not see a Facebook Group. Do you have instructions you can email or post a link to?

    Hi John, Sorry to say, I do not have a link for instructions to the R8 MKII backlight upgrade. There was a lot of information at the yahoo group, but as you say this is no longer available. I have posted some of the backlight project at the Facebook Roland R8 group, and even rescued some of the information from the yahoo group. Do a search the Facebook R8 group, and you should find it. Apologies for not being much help. Bill

    Hi Roo m2, Yes, you can re-amp with a mini breakout cable, although a minimum GKP-1 breakout box makes things more convenient. Re-amping a v-synth like a GR-55 is essential, being such a deep piece of gear. Play a bit, adjust a bit is total madness and you end up with a poor v-guitar patch. separate-strings.co.uk
