I’m quite sure those first does weren’t running from the porcupine. That’s exactly how they act when a bucks been hot on them. He may not have run across the bait pile. I’ve watched them circle the bait pile to harass them without getting to close. In the passed it worked for me to let a grunt go right after they run off. Buck came in pissed off.

Man I was pissed when that porcupine came out. But since seeing those two I have a better understanding on how they approach the site.

That's too bad about being skunked, but that's what makes the successful seasons so exciting. Have you ever looked into the Grand Manan special archery hunt? If you put in for your doe tag on Grand Manan (which they have more tags for than applicants) you're allowed to take a doe with a bow there, then go to DNR and they will issue you an antlered deer tag for the mainland. It might be good content for you, and aside from a nuisance tag, I think it's the only way to take 2 deer legally in NB.

How you choose to hunt and what is of course entirely up to you and what would be lesl to practice in your area. As long as you are following the law and being ethical, we have nothing we can say to stop you. Here in New Brunswick, baiting is perfectly legal and is also the most commonly practiced form of bear hunting. You are certainly entitled to feel how you do, but nothing wrong or illegal or unethical was done here.

@@ChasinTrailsOutdoors Thankyou. I'm in Ontario farmland. Baiting deer bear fox by hunters is frowned upon. Really no skill involved but bragging rights

Big sows are difficult to judge, it happens. I find your best measurement is always the head size and the nose. Almost always they appear as they should have a big head and it always looks slightly small compared to the body. Also look at the tip of the nose. Almost all noses end in a flat blunt end with a slight upward hook.
