    Actually they didn't. They checked with the local native Americans that had often traded with them and the natives said the same thing. The settlers just disappeared leaving clothes, tools, and other things needed if they were to relocate. Evidence also shows that many of the homes had set the dinner table with food and none of it was eaten.
