Our Style (1994-2008) was also a lover of lying on the bed))) I watch the video and am amazed - your dog is simply “one face” with our Style - the same color, the same type - not a fluffy ball, as they have spoiled the breed now, but a very elegant amount of wool... I grew up with a collie; named Miele. Incredible animal. After he died, my family got involved with German Shepherds which we've owned, bred, trained & shown both here in the States as well as in Germany. I, still to this day think of Miele! As great as the Shepherds are; i still miss Miele. The 2 breeds share similarities; strong prey drive, enjoy doing obedience, loyal & protective. But, the collie is more sensitive and docile around the house. I have many ask me, because they know how much i love the German Shepherd; if i were to get involved with another breed, what would it be, a Doberman, Rottweiler, Belgian Malinois, Giant Schnauzer? I say no to all; i tell them it would most definitely be a collie, hands down! The older i get the more I'm becoming more drawn to my child hood dog, the collie. Yes, i have a 2 year old male German Shepherd now, plenty of both time and room for a great Collie puppy too. I truly enjoyed watching the video, took me down memory lane; got me thinking once again,,,,,,,

I had a rough collie and 2 shelties at the same time. My rough collie was the leader. So.... not completely true as you are saying. Every dog is different.... personality is different... Depends on the parents they had (the breed). They both love to work for you, but a sheltie is 99% pleasable. Rough collie I think 95%. Same for agression. Yes they are normally not agressive... but I knew a rough collie that was... so... it depends on the breed.

i know shelties and rough collies look very similar (i have a sheltie). but how do they compare in temperament? are rough collies chill and relaxed dogs or are they energetic like a sheltie is?

Rough collies are moderate energy, they are energetic but also chill, they aren't lazy dogs but also not bouncing off the walls type either, I've never owned a rough collie but i've done tons of research on them

Absolutely gorgeous Collie :) I recently got my first Rough Collie and he is now 4 months old. I have always wanted a Rough Collie since I was a little girl and my dream has come true! I am in crazy love with Colin and even though of him being in a little puppy has been overload of cuteness, I am really looking forward seeing him all grown up and watch him how handsome boy he is going to be :)

I am 76 and my husband is 77. We have a 7 year old Sheltie that we love and walk every day. His name is Rio and we are about to get another Sheltie from the same breeder who is highly regarded. Her pups will be ready for adoption in two weeks. We live in South Carolina and once the summer heat begins it will be a challenge to take one walk let alone two. Our yard is small. I am having some doubts as to the wisdom of getting another Sheltie. Just keeping Rio groomed and his nails clipped is a lot. Would it be fair to get another Sheltie? Thank you for your advice. I greatly enjoyed your video!

I never had collies but as a child I remember seeing them walk on the street with my neighbor. He had 3 incredibly smart collies that didn’t even need a leash. They were majestic and so intelligent. Pretty much the entire city (200k people) stopped to watch as he passed through the streets. Everyone wanted to pet them. They were pretty much the celebrities of my town. I always wanted to have one until I started to read more about the breed and realized it wasn’t a match. They need a lot of exercise and fun activities to keep them happy and healthy. I am more of a couch potato. 😊

I love how you describe your dogs but the owner of two rough collies I could tell you some of this isn't really accurate but they are a good breed too have and you put the intelligence of them really lightly they are extremely smart and learn really quickly

Grooming of a Sheltie I have found is no hardship at all. Combing for 10-15 minutes a week will do, trimming nails and paw fur and ears. That is is it.

I (12 year old female) somehow, convinced my parents to get me a rough collie this year! :-) After wanting a dog for so long I finally got one and his name is Sidney and he is five months old. He is the cutest ever and I cannot wait for our journeys. xxx

@@DogThecity I have been considering that angle, too. But she chews up paper whenever she finds it, even though she is four. I have more books than my shelves can hold, so I have some stacked on the floor. She chewed the bindings. I think she is bored, because she came from an adult group of five. It costs more than $500 to get her teeth cleaned, and having had two dogs, I guarantee, that is a bite. If an adult falls into my lap, I will gladly rehome him or her. I have had four gently used adults and bonded easily with all of them. As a gal raised on a dairy farm with collies, I see the similarities in the breeds and love them both. I don’t see collies as house dogs, though, knowing how mine and I would roam our acreage to run and play. I have a fenced yard, but live in town, so my home is not appropriate for an adult collie, and I am not fast enough for a Sheltie puppy.
