    I think Beech put on a landing gear designed for a bomber on purpose! So it would not fly faster ! That is where all the drag is!!

    Neat little bird. Prices are especially interesting. BTW you had it right with the pitch stability. But wrong with roll. It is not called inverse stable but simply unstable. And what you are demonstrating is static instability. Static means the first reaction. Does it want to correct or its first reaction is make it worse, Yes? = statically stable, No? = Statically unstable. Static stability is prerequisite for dynamic to be even considered. So if It wants to correct the upset, Does it correct and dampen the oscillation *with time* ? Or does it over-correct and in time makes the oscillations stronger? Yes, dampen = statically and dynamically stable. No, it over-corrects = statically stable but dynamically unstable. Still thank you for the plane demonstration.

    I owned MA306, a 1968 Super III One of only 86 musketeers with a fuel injected IO360 200 HP. Never should of sold it. Candian airforce used them as trainers and due to excessive weight in the panel (military radios) it was difficult to recover them from a spin however they bent the wings doing so and flew them home. Those planes got put on poles outside the bases. Awesome paint schemes on them, CT134 was their designation.

    I own a 1976 B-19 Sport that originally came with the the O-320 150HP engine. When the engine needed overhaul, I hired a DER and we used pre-approved data to install a 180hp O-360. My bird is now referred to as a "Sport 180". She blows away most 172's and Cherokees on our field. Cruises at about 117kts, roomier with two doors, and now with the O-360, max TO weight is increased to 2450lbs so she has a 940lb useful load. I will never understand why people overlook these planes.

    @@tomi6261 that sounds fantastic! Maybe if I still have the plane once it needs overhaul, I’ll consider engine swapping instead of rebuilding the O-320. Mine had a prop strike in the early 80’s, and was converted to the 160hp O-320. Not much more than the original, but I’ll take every ounce of performance I can get especially with my home airport elevation being 5500’ MSL. Do you by chance have the STC number for the 180hp conversion?

    @tomi6261Ай бұрын

    @@kalvinwinder In 1976, Beechcraft converted approx 24 B-19's to 180hp for a flight school in Illinois. Unfortunately, they did not create an STC. It was more of a "one time" thing. I just happen to have a friend who owns one of these factory converted planes. So I then hired a DER to create a Data Package for my airframe using the "pre-approved data" from my friends plane. Now, my plane is essentially a C-23 Sundowner without the third row windows and cargo door.

I really liked the Vg explanations. I might have missed it, but remember Vg that is published is for one specific weight and CG with new instruments and test pilots. As you said, YMMV, quite literally. Have you posted your channel on BAC? Keep up the good work!!

    Thank you! I've been loving this little airplane the past year and a half or so, it's a perfect time builder. My Vg tests were out of curiosity and I was pretty surprised by the results. The numbers will skew with different weights and cg as you mentioned, but the general trend of each flight configuration (airspeed/flaps settings) should carry through with different weight and cg. 80% of the time I fly solo with anywhere between 2/3 to full tanks, which is the configuration demonstrated in the video. I hadn't thought to put my channel on beech aero club, but I recently had to become a member so I could rent the correct tool used to swap the rubber disks in the gear. Since I'm a member now I may advertise just for giggles. Thanks for the support! I owned a Beech Sport B-19. Bought it to build time on my way to an airline job. It was slow, under-performer but I flat loved that airplane. Lots of room, Two Doors, and did I mention lots of room. I put over 1000 hours in the airplane and sold it for what I paid for it. You can't go wrong with the Sport of Sundowner. Be aware that the earlier version of the planes - the Musketeers had only one door so I would stay away from them

  • @kalvinwinder

    I own the earlier version that only has 1 door, and no baggage compartment. Hasn't been too much of drag as I don't frequently do long flights where I need luggage, plus my home airport elevation is so high that I wouldn't want to have anyone in the backseat if I were carrying luggage. So any luggage I do need to carry can easily fit in the backseat. It's such a great airplane, I just logged my 200th hour in it

    I’ve never flown the Cherokee, but from what I’ve heard from people who’ve flown both is that they’re very similar. The Cherokee is a little smaller and the controls are a bit heavier. Performance numbers are nearly identical though. I know some Cherokees have a wingspar AD which needs to be checked every so often, as well as the oleo struts which need to be serviced, while the musketeer has rubber disks which last forever. So those are a couple things to consider.

    I don't know if you're aware of this, but there are two different things when it comes to best glide. The FAA publishes a document giving an overview of both. One covers the most distance over the ground (best glide) the other keeps you in the air the longest (minimum sink). Search "FAA Best Glide Speed and Distance" for a few more details. I think what you were measuring was minimum sink rather than best glide. Hard to tell from the video though. So maybe I missed something.
