Julie and Andy A Year Out
Hello we are Andy and Julie we have taken a years (or maybe more) sabbatical from work to travel at home and abroad.
To date our travels have included St Lucia, Martinique, back packing in Columbia and Peru. At home we have visited St Ives (Cornwall), Cumbria, and North Devon.
We are currently on a 8 week adventure in France staying in the Dordogne region to get a feel of French life and polish off the French
Later in the year our adventures and travels will include Hong Kong, Vietnam and Sardinia.
This year is about new adventures , new experiences , pausing the 9-5 , spending time with family and learning new skills. Our mantra for the year is CARPE DIEM (seize the day) !!

Amazing!! I love the enthusiasm to go for a swim.. ill definitely do that
@@CherryBarrato I love wild swimming esp i. the sea . There is something so invigorating . It’s a bit hard to get in but once you’re in it’s ok but the feeling when you get out is so good . it sets you up for the day . we swam in croyde bay in january now that was cold and there is an organisation called the blue tits which means you can swim with other people
@@CherryBarrato Hi i really like open water swimming especially in the sea . once you get over that cold shock then it’s invigorating and sets you up for the day . there is an organisation called the bluetits where people can swim together if you feel nervous swimming on your own .
Hey could I make thumbnails for you
Thankyou for asking . We are enjoying making our own . any tips though would be good 👍
In China we call them chicken fat mushroom because of the color 😂
Ah thanks for letting me know
do you also forage girolles?
Yes these are girolles the french name for chantarelle mushrooms
The bendt chantarelle you picked, i would never have picked one without the classic trumpet shape to it, but im no expert, i just pick chantarelles and havent died yet, which means i must be half decent
I am new to foraging and having lessons from my french neighbour . at the moment i would need her to check all the mushrooms i pick just in case .
@@AYearOut where i live, there are alot of mushrooms and some of them will harm you, i usually just look over the ribs in the underside of the cap and the stem, not many mushrooms here look even similar to chantarelles and, well its the only mushrooms i pick so im not really overly proficient with ut
Thanks for sharing your trip to Bordeaux. That was very informative and helped me get oriented for my upcoming visit there. Cheers!
Glad it was helpful!
Useful video. Which packing cubes do you use?
This is what we used. Cipway - 5 Set Compression... www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B083FX29VF?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Three days? Three hours would be too much for me.
It is a beautiful place but probably off season is the best to enjoy all that it has to offer 😁
shitbox
It's dangerous a ludicrously low top speed, and range.
No it is not, it is a city car and outside the city you can drive it on bike paths in the Netherlands. And obviously not allowed on highways.
@@buddy1155 ok realistically what's the range you recon you get as to deriving it on bike paths that's stupid it will take up most of any single path, and what's its top speed tell the people, I already know that's why I said what I did and obviously I an taking about being on the road we have them in my country Scotland.
yes it seems a good city car
46 km distance
@@mysurlytrucker7510 What is the problem if it takes up one lane of a cyclepath? that is what cars do on the road. It is outside the city so all two way cycle paths. And in Scotland you can still use them in cities and towns.
Our local brand made same toy namely Vinfast VF3. It cost 15 grand for the same feature
Went to buy one in the UK put a deposit down and then the bloody government messed that up making so it wasn't classed as a quadricycle here meaning any who ever wanted one needed a licence. killing sales.
Yeah - just don't get involved in a crash or make a sardine cosplay.
Yes i agree . Not sure if i would have allowed my 14 year old to drive this 😳
@@AYearOut safer than an e-scooter 🤷
It is actually quite save, a tube frame with ABS skin, both very good at absorbing an impact.
Highly recommend parking up at the park and ride at St Erth train station. Then catch the branch line train direct into St Ives. On a nice sunny day sit back relax on one of the most beautiful train rides you will take. In the peak summer months its a no brainer, this takes the stress out of driving around endlessly trying to park up. Great video, glad you enjoyed my home county.
Thanks for the tips! .
What a lovely place ! Greatings from the Czech republic.
It certainly is . Thanks for watching
Could't find the link for the drone 🙂.
Hi ErivTheHiking we are not affiliated marketeers yet . i’ll send you the picture of what we have and description if that helps
a.co/d/fEhlds3 there you go 😀
@@AYearOut thanks
Born and lived there for 20 ish years before I moved away, too many holiday makers, its overrun. Not a nice place to live due to that.
That is so sad . We visited in April so was relatively quiet but could imagine how busy and congested it would get in the summer . We would like to move closer to the sea but it’s finding somewhere that is a small town that has a community in and out of season and not too busy in peak season . Thanks for your comments it’s great to get a locals perspective
absolutely gorgeous! xxx
We do love visiting Ruth and family
Last week and we were 3 days , very beautiful place 😍😍😍We loved St Ives ❤
It is such a beautiful place . Glad you enjoyed your stay . Did you get to see the Minack theatre ? any recommendations for places to eat ?
We definitely want yo try this, but feel need to get a bit fitter. I get motion sickness a lot so mught need to adjust first in Cusco. Well fone for doing it.
We did quite a few big hikes before doing the trek . it’s the altitude that gets you . we definitely needed 3days to acclimatise to the altitude . There were people with lots of different fitness levels and the guides were brilliant with adapting to everyone’s needs and fitness levels
Thinking of investing a Water to go bottle very handy, we found too much plastic water bottles floating around Asia when we travelled. We use most of what you recommend, its always a learning curve. Thanks for sharing 👍
They are great just don’t put them in the dishwasher 😩
I like your big cross chest bag, but I can´t find it on Amazon. Could you please send me the link? Thank you!
Hi unfortunately i dont have a link but on amazon this is the description / ithe DKIIL NOIYB Store 4.3 622 DKIIL NOIYB Crescent Bag for Women, Nylon Crescent Bags Hobos Crossbody Bag Portable Crescent Purse with Adjustable Strap Solid Color Chest Bag Shoulder Bag
Great video guys! Had an amazing time with you both!

They are brilliant .
Looking forward to watching your Peru etc adventures so we can get tips of what to do or what not to do. We have just completed our Vietnam trip so hopefully we will start uploading that if you want want some tips on that too. lovely to see more couples of a similar age who are exploring the world too......just something its lovely to meet Sarah miles etc, and people in your previous vlogs, I just wondered what the connection was ? are they family?
Hi we only visited Cusco and then did the epic 4 day inca trail in Peru . Watch out machupicchu video it will give you some insights into the country .
@@AYearOut yes watched it was really interesting.... We might have to train to build a bit of stamina and fitness before we go, but thanks for getting back to me
Do you have more details or the link to the lock? Thanks!
We bought it from B&Q a hard ware store for £2.50 ish it’s very small with three numbers to lock .
Thanks for your feedback . yes we stay in hostels we had a private rooms so paid a bit more but we loved the atmosphere and meeting so many travellers so we could share experiences .
This was a really great video! I will watch your videos going forward. Thanks for sharing. Do you stay in hostels? can you give a review on hostels as an adult over 33 years old?
In vietnam the hotel are very cheap. I rent a 3 person room/family room and i only need to pay $20
Hi Kathy Thanks for comment. We stayed mostly in Hostels and used both booking.com and also Hostelworld app. Because we are a couple we always had a double room. |Our experience of the hostels we stayed in was really positive. Hope that helps
Me alegra mucho q Allan disfrutado de nuestro hermoso pais.. siempre bienvenidos
Such a great clip! Loving it. It’s exactly the holidays we love! Enjoy!
Love these weekly updates. Xx.
Tan looks great! And the mic is fantastic, really really clear difference with and without. Great investment for sure!
We haven’t been using our mics as much as we thought we would as finding them a bit of a faff to set up each time we want to use . Our next video in france touring the perigord noir we have set up the 360 and kept the microphone set up all day and that felt a lot simpler
Absolutely fabulous idea! 😊
Thank you! 😊
