Young Timers Garage

Thanks so much for checking out my channel. Here you will see " Young Timer Cars " A common term used in Germanic car culture, a Young timer is a well kept car that is of the age between 20-30 years old. These are usually future classics/limited production imports to foreign countries, most commonly associated with European built vehicles. We like to bring these cars back to being road worthy ! From barn finds, to garage finds we love searching and finding rare cars. You can look forward to seeing mechanical repairs to interior details. Please ask questions and comment.

    That was a lotta work but you did it! I would have to pay to get that done on my SL63. Just ordered the latch assembly for the trunk as having issues with “trunk not closed.” Could have tried gluing the plastic cracks causing air leaks but not taking any chances and hopefully will be good for another 10 years now. Thanks for the video!

    These Mercedes hydro systems are a nightmare to work on. We would have customers come in with their car interiors covered in hydraulic fluid. It was a mess. And the costs to repair? You don’t want to know😏

    These R129s, and the other Mercedes convertibles of the era through now, are magnificent pain in the butt money holes unless you can work on them yourself. When one of cylinder goes, just replace them all and know the pump is next. Don't die by death of a thousand cuts. Also the microswitches. Then in the next generation of Mercedes cars, you have to deal with the ABC systems and more annoyingly, cheap little plastic pieces that break, like a $1 part on the rear windows that you have to take the interior apart to get to. They saved $10 per car not using aluminum and cost every owner $3K in replacement work every few years. I see a beautiful low mileage 1994 SL600 near me with of course a bad wiring harness from that mess from the awful ones they had through those years.

    Just ordered for my 300SL with M104.980 a new bosch cap, rotor, plugs, ignition coil, and (non-oem spark plug wires). Looking to refresh the engine like yours. Are you planning to remove that emissions air pump? Mine makes some noise also when engine cold.. i dream of adding a comptech turbo one day and that would have to go. Anyway, keep up the good work.

    how do you solve the airbag light problem?

  • @youngtimersgarage
    @youngtimersgarageАй бұрын

    Being that these cars are over 30 years old the airbag most likely doesnt work either way. You can either remove the srs bulb or leave it. Mercedes recommends replacing airbags every 10 years I believe .

  • @bequietandrive222
    @bequietandrive222Ай бұрын

    @@youngtimersgarage not true. the 10 year recommendation was for older cars prior to r129 and your airbag does still work. also it might be illegal to drive this car with no airbag in your state.

  • @youngtimersgarage
    @youngtimersgarageАй бұрын

    Not true , Mercedes-Benz used to recommend replacing airbags in their cars after 15 years, but in 2002, research showed that airbags installed in cars built after 1992 should last the lifetime of the vehicle. However, regular maintenance and inspections are still important to ensure airbags are in good condition. This isnt my daily so im not worried about it, either way I have my original wheel back in the car.

  • @wernerdanler2742
    @wernerdanler2742Ай бұрын

    I think I like the original wheel better. It suits the car. I saw very little of what you did since the camera was at an odd angle when you did the hood pad and you were in front of the camera for most of the rest of the video! 😮😂😅😂😅😂

    That's a 300-24 with a body kit, nothing to do with the hammer, or the Baby hammer which is a 190e 3.2 or 3.4

  • @youngtimersgarage
    @youngtimersgarageАй бұрын

    Its a 300CE AMG Westmont build done for Ozzie Guillen verified by the former president of AMG of Westmont. I call it the Baby Hammer because it does not have the 6 litre but looks identical to the Hammers which also came in a 4 door and a widebody coupe. If you do some research on what was considered an AMG car in the premerger era you would know this is an AMG . Thanks for watching !

  • @professorjamesmoriarty5191
    @professorjamesmoriarty5191Ай бұрын

    @@youngtimersgarage well aware of what a pre merger car is, and that isn't one. A "build" is more than bonding on a body kit, it doesn't have anything AMG about it other than that.
