Those 2 women off to the right seem to be put off by the music...at one point rolling their eyes and shaking their heads as if to say." Ugh...why do we have to hear this on our lunch break?". The side eye shade from the woman in black on her cell phone is an energy really out of place- Adrienne's music - you can tell - just really isn't her jam.🎵🎶🎼🎤👧🏻🎸 👂🏾👀👂🏾🙅🏾

Thank you so much for posting this and showing some landmarks! I was born in Iowa and spent my summers at my grandparent's farm just outside of Bedford. I continued to visit when i could as an adult and it's so precious to me to see those cobblestoned streets, that beautiful courthouse, the post office... When we stayed at the farm (in the 60's) we had our swimming lessons in Lenox, went to church in Gravity, went to the talent show and ice cream social in Sharpsburg - but we did everything else in good old Bedford! We went grocery shopping there, weekly laundry and visits to the library, the post office... gramma's hair appts were the best because we got to visit the 5 and dime while she was in the chair, lol! It was so cool, because even though we only came for summers as we were growing up, everyone knew us. and yes, on a few saturday nights, we parked in front of the drugstore eating ice cream with the windows down. ppl would sit in their cars or walk and visit with each other. A world gone by, but the memories will never leave me. This is a huge part of who i am and i thank you so much for the memories!

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to stop in my bloody tracks and listen to every word and every chord that is issued from Adriane Lenker if I'm lucky enough to be moseying past her while she's busking in the street.

I've played lots of these "outdoor series" shows here in Minneapolis. It's such a strange feeling. You'll spend hours or days working on a new song, and when you play it for folks while they go about their day, it feels like it just evaporates. Nobody who is walking to catch a bus or get a bite to eat is expecting to engage with a song they've never heard before, and most people don't share the same taste in music, so what little attention you get is usually surprising. Adrienne is younger than me, but I feel some kinship with her here, and it feels good to know that songwriters I admire have done these kinds of "shows" too and received similar reactions from passersby.

One time decades ago a friend of mine saw The Violent Femmes playing on a street corner in Greensboro N.C. I've done my share of busking and some days I'd reach people and walk with a couple hundred bucks other times I'd feel lucky to walk away at all. Especially when the isolated church folks came down out of the hills for their monthly restock of booze. One day i was playing in Yadkinville N.C. and a woman walking by took one look at me and started crying and screaming for her husband like I was going to attack her on the street in broad day light. He came running up like I was one of those fake street punks from the Deathwish movies. I told him she needed therapy if seeing a musician playing guitar on the sidewalk hit her like that. He was like "Well you don't exactly look normal!" I said "NORMAL PEOPLE DON'T FREAK OUT WHEN THEY SEE OTHER PEOPLE!"
