Building Beautifully

Hey there, I'm Sharath and I'm the creator of this channel. Building Beautifully is your go-to destination for videos all about city planning! My focus is primarily on Sydney, Australia, and planning decisions over the past 50 years that have shaped our great city, for worse or for better.

Watch my channel for reviews of the plannings of different suburbs across Sydney, for stories about railways and freeways lost to time, and for analysis of upcoming government infrastructure proposals!

I really hope you enjoy my channel; I'm putting a lot of work into it, and I hope it will truly become your go-to destination for infrastructure stories from Sydney (and maybe more one day)!

    To be clear I am complaining about the Victoria Cross name - way more confusing for locals than necessary. I am also a bit concerned finding out that the McLaren St exit will only be served by lifts. There are 6 high schools which will definitely utilize this access all at a peak time due to similar school hours. Backpacks mean the kids effectively take up the space of 1 1/2-2 people so space will fill very quickly. Any word on walking distance from that entrance? That’s the only thing that would determine if I still need to take a bus due to mobility issues.

    There are building codes on how steep a ramp can be, and how far it can go between landings, so people in wheelchairs can safely traverse them, hence the bulk. Stairs would have been a nice alternative for those that can climb them, though, and a pair of lifts would have been more user friendly, though they’d cost more to install and maintain. They probably would have needed less rampage if they had tunneled under the tracks instead of bridging over them, but then you have a creepy pedestrian tunnel.

    The generation who didn't grow up watching Terminator movies really show it when they embrace AI and driverless. Sure, I can understand how removing the human element can be helpful, but with the increasing numbers of people with low intelligence depending on AI and "driverless" options, we're signing our own doom contract. Rather a driver with a dead man switch over driverless.

    Per capita, Sydney Metro will be bigger going by your numbers. Then there is the heavy rail network which has been around for around 150 years. Shanghai has 30m people. I guess in raw terms, its rail network will handle more people.

    As an American who lives in a city where our Suburban Trains (we call it Regional Rail here), run BI-HOURLY at certain times of the day and weekends......I'm jealous you even have half-hour service as the "low-end" of frequencies. I'd rob Fort Knox for AT LEAST half-hourly service on my local regional rail line because Our "Metro" Line (we call it The El or L) is kind of far away. You have to take a bus to it, it runs every 10-12 minutes all day, even during peak hour, with aging equipment that often fails, and the trains are usually filled with drug addicts and people smoking narcotics out in the open.....God bless Philadelphia. Lol

    It won't happen under a Labor government. I remember Michael Costa promising a line to La Perouse (just one of their many rail promises) and like the rest they never went ahead with it. Don't expect anything new from Jo Haylen. She's just there to cut ribbons and smile for the cameras when opening the previous government's projects.

    The times you are quoting are only speculative and will vary depending on the time of day and passenger load, also the Metro has far fewer stations to service so it should be quicker. I would imagine they intend to carry out track maintenance overnight to reduce hold ups. The express trains from the Central Coast can't travel via the City Circle because that would mean using the Nth Shore line which only has one up and one down line so they would be held up by the urbane train services. The Central Coast trains have their on line all the way to central via Stratfield.

  • @vintageradio3404

    Just imagine what they could have built with the wasted money that was poured into the useless, ugly, polluting WestConnex Rozelle Interchange.

  • @vintageradio3404
    @vintageradio34048 сағат бұрын

    What could have been built exactly? Bear in mind that not everyone's travel can involve trains. Or do you take the train to Bunnings?

  • @peterbreis5407
    @peterbreis54077 сағат бұрын

    @@vintageradio3404 Was unaware that Westconnex was shortening Bunnings travel times. Maybe that's where they went wrong. It sure isn't working for anything else. Bunnings is local. The horrible traffic around Balmain and Rozelle is due to the massive number of people commuting from the North West who have no rail connection. Build the rail network to meet that demand, unlike the expanded roads, it _relieves_ congestion and gives predictable travel times.

  • @jack2453
    @jack24535 сағат бұрын

    @@vintageradio3404Point 1. Most trips to Bunnings are for pretty small items that I can carry on the train e.g. a paintbrush or a few screws. Point 2. If I do need to drive to Bunnings, it would ge a much easier trip if the roads weren't full of office workers driving to work or people heading to cafes or tennis courts or grandma's House.

  • @julianfoster3443
    @julianfoster344328 секунд бұрын

    Not much. Because not many TAXPAYER dollars were spent on Rozelle. Like most of the road projects in the last 20 years it’s been largely sold off so the sale proceeds offset the expenditure. Unlike the Metro which all has been funded from taxpayer dollars. I’ve lost count of the number of people who falsely compare the two.

    Re Crows Nest metro. They should have built a tunnel under the Highway to Oxley Street so we don't have to queue up at the traffic lights. Instead they put a fence down the middle of the highway. Metros round the world always put multiple entrances. THE GOVERNMENT is already planning lots of high rise in this area.
