Thank you so much for this video. I have been looking at motor homes for the past 6 months. Isn't it nteresting that the first thing they show you is the storage! Sod the storage look at the bed scenario, it is the most important. I have changed my mind on the layout about 10 times already. My advise is not to rush into it. Yes you are also right about people saying you shouldn't buy this make or that. There has been a problem with Ford in the past and Fiat had a problem with the gear box etc etc. They are all out there on the roads so whatever it is is a personal choice. Thank you once again for this video it makes great sense to newbies like me!

Everything you are saying is accurate, and it happens when buying property. As an estate agent for 36 years (I am retired now), I've watched so many people buy the wrong houses that you can't say anything because they are convinced they are right, and they don't do their homework. When I buy a home, I know from experience what to look for. So, when buying a motorhome or caravan, I spend ages doing my homework; before buying, I have been told by the caravan and motorhome salespeople that many people buy the wrong ones and trade them back in, well that costs money you can't afford to lose. Learn from people like you, KZread, and forums, and after a while, things will start to fall into place. What suits you best, learning from others, and it's free.

This was the best video. Think about what you need. Myself, I need one with an eating area, a fixed bed, and a wet bath. But I am old and can’t make up a bed/lounge everyday and need to sit when I take a bath. So climbing a ladder to my bed is not an option and neither is a 30 inch by 30 inch standing shower. These work perfectly for people in good physical condition. I’m glad that now you can get small motor homes with two fixed single beds. Don’t have to convert the bed every day but still have place to sit on rainy days.

❤Wise advice. I agree with you we shouldn’t have to get over things.We found making up a bed every night a pain and sometimes exhausting. I personally love a fixed bed and I would never purchase one with a bed that’s stored in the ceiling. My husband has a bad back and prefers to lie down rather than sit on the seats. Talking of seats I wish they would bring back the older type from around 2006 the new designs are not as comfortable to sit on and slide forward to easily. My last niggle is the cooking area please stop placing them next to a fixed wall as it limits space for pots etc. Trying to get food safely from the oven when there is a unit behind you is awkward and dangerous. I find the best place for a cooker is directly opposite the habitation door. Rant over but those few tweeks would be a game changer for us. Thank you for making this video and well done.

We had a caravan with the 'lounge' area that converts into a king size bed and liked that layout. When we got our motorhome we went for the same layout. The only criticism we have is that the pull out slatted wooden bed support is not strong enough. We had breakages on the caravan and the motorhome. Even just sitting on the edge of the bed can cause a breakage. We solved the problem with 2 pieces of 3/4'' ply sheets used instead of the slats, and it goes neatly under the mat during the day.

Thanks, great Vlog. We had a 7.5 MH with a lovely fixed bed /bedroom and a living area with a drop down double that we rarely used, you could also make up a single below, which was used once. The dogs liked that as they could jump into bed with the guest. Our MH with the fixed bed was our sanctuary, we loved it, it was relaxing. We had it for 9 years. Made lots of memories which ended last year due to picking up debris on the M6, which came through the floor, all 6 layers including two areas of insulation. We are staring our next adventures next month in a 6m panel van professional conversion with a unique design that gives us more floor space for the dogs etc. Not as luxury as our previous Chausson, but practical so let’s see how we go. Only 2seatbelts and 2 berth …. Plus 3 dogs 😂

Thank you. I’ve done a few small van builds in the past but quite like the idea of doing a boxer/relay size van that I think can be used in a different way to the motor home. I think when it’s finished it’ll be a more robust vehicle. I’m planning roof racks and ladders and all terrain style wheels/tyres etc. Although more than likely the financial side of this will mean it’s a slower process than anticipated 😆 Thanks for taking the time to comment 👍

Looking at upgrading to a motorhome now so my partner and 70kg dog can come with me after 10 year of me fishing out of a panel van . The VW was a non starter even smaller than my work transit so we looked at the converted campervans on the fiat chassis to try and keep down the size but quickly realised it was still too small . We began looking at motorhomes and the layouts , like you wanted a fixed bed and futre proofed with space for kids . Finally looked at the Benimar tessoro t482 which has large rear lounge and front belted bench and dining area . Has 2 x drop down beds front and back that can drop all the way down to hip height, seems the perfect compromise and just about to sign the paperwork 🤞

Nice work. I had thought about putting in plastic windows but I found them to be very expensive for my budget. Looking forward to seeing the van progress in the months to come. My build is currently ongoing. L2 H2 with a double bed and 1 single over the front seat as they swivel.
@OutAndAbout-UK4 ай бұрын
I know what you mean. I deliberated for days about it. I decided on these as it solved the need for curtains/trim etc on the inside. So I factored that expense in too. Absolutely take your point though, everything is so expensive when you get started. 🤦♂️ Thanks for taking the time to comment, much appreciated. Enjoy your van build👍

Will be subscribing and follow along! Gonna be interesting to see how you'll solve the double, double beds! Keep it up! How long do you plan for the build to take?
@OutAndAbout-UK4 ай бұрын
Hi! ASAP would be ideal, however, everything is so expensive 🤦♂️. Insulation, windows, roof vents, Batteries, solar, kitchen stuff, It all adds up so quickly! And we’re at -2 degrees at the moment outside and although much warmer than you, it’s still tough going! Thanks for commenting and following the progress 👍.

Very interested in how you are going to fit 4 beds in your build. I've 3 beds 1 single over the front seats and a double in the rear with storage underneath. The bed lifts up to the ceiling so I can get bikes in the rear. Iam still building my van and looking for inspiration. Good luck with the build and seeing your progress 👍 have fun.

I agree with what you said and it is very useful. I purchased a motorhome, and I thought a few things were very important when purchasing it. I think the most important thing is to make a choice that suits your lifestyle and purpose. Second, there are various types depending on size, structure, amenities, etc. Since my wife and I are planning to travel around the country, we decided to do that. The last thing I considered was price and maintenance costs.

Making up a bed at night when you’re tired holds zero interest for “me” - never mind tired kids 😉. I’d end up sleeping on the small sofa. Just me and my dog, but I think with kids (extra room) it’s an excellent point you make. Also the drop-down beds that rattle and give you no headroom. - I never fancied one of them from the get go and your description of it just double confirms that for me. Perhaps as much as we don’t like to compromise, with a motorhome there will usually (if not always) be element of compromise.
@OutAndAbout-UK5 ай бұрын
I absolutely agree with you re compromise. With a motorhome it seems to be a case of compromise by having the thing that annoys you the least 😂. Thanks for taking the time to add your thoughts. Much appreciated 👍

It’s all about finding the perfect van, the one that fulfils all your requirements! Sounds like a great layout 👏 enjoy it on your adventures!
The windows look great. Are you going to add the link for the windows or am I looking in the wrong place?
Oh man I knew I’d forgotten something 🤦♂️ Apologies, great service (not sponsored or anything) www.jacksonsleisure.com/caravan/motorhome/campervan/low/profile/window/
excellent video, some good points made, new sub here so thanks! (I'm planning to buy one in the next 2-3 years to time it with early retirement)
Thanks for the kind comments. Hope it was of some use? I’m sure you’ll find the right van for you 👍 and when you do have a great time with it. 👏👏
Thank you 😊
Those windows looks great! Should be an exciting build! 👍
Thanks! 👍
Nice work. I had thought about putting in plastic windows but I found them to be very expensive for my budget. Looking forward to seeing the van progress in the months to come. My build is currently ongoing. L2 H2 with a double bed and 1 single over the front seat as they swivel.
The best vlog of buying a Motorhome I’ve seen. We bought a 20 year old Kontiki 660 with a fixed bed and a decent front lounge area. There are only the 2 of us and a small dog so it suits us. Thank you for sharing and being so thoughtful and helpful. Brilliant! 🤩
That’s very kind of you. Amazing! 🤩 I think I’ll pin this comment. 👌🤣
Just bought myself a Peugeot Boxer L4 a few days ago, will be starting my own build as soon as the temperature outside isn't showing -19 degrees since I have to do the work outdoors. Will be subscribing and follow along! Gonna be interesting to see how you'll solve the double, double beds! Keep it up! How long do you plan for the build to take?
You and me both!! 😂 I do have an idea that on paper should work. But as with everything, time will tell 🤞 Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Nice idea re the bikes too 👏👏
Brilliant mate, looking forward to seeing the progress going forward bud 👍🏻 All the best JP
Hopefully it should be a bit of fun 🤞 cheers mate!
Thank you for taking the time to comment. 👍 happy travels!
Ooo so it looks like we going to see a van build series, I look forward to following along. Good luck with the build 👍
Thank you mate 👍 should be fun!
I hate useing the long liters there anorrion to use there not always reliable
Making up a bed at night when you’re tired holds zero interest for “me” - never mind tired kids 😉. I’d end up sleeping on the small sofa. Just me and my dog, but I think with kids (extra room) it’s an excellent point you make. Also the drop-down beds that rattle and give you no headroom. - I never fancied one of them from the get go and your description of it just double confirms that for me. Perhaps as much as we don’t like to compromise, with a motorhome there will usually (if not always) be element of compromise.
I absolutely agree with you re compromise. With a motorhome it seems to be a case of compromise by having the thing that annoys you the least 😂. Thanks for taking the time to add your thoughts. Much appreciated 👍

Why not build your own to your spec?
A good question. I’ve built many campers over the years usually on the vw transporter base van. I’m actually looking for a relay, Ducati, boxer van at the moment to build to my exact needs and requirements. It’s an ideal thing to do if you have the skill set but I guess not everyone has that as an option? Thanks for taking the time to comment 👍
Fiat Ducati 4x4 good luck and happy building, I watched a great vid a lady built a boxer bed pulled down from the side. Nate was the creator.

@@tangomike01 thank you 👌
Great tips. Thank you. If I ever have the money to buy one. I'll rent one first see what it's like. Rather waste a few hundred renting it than a few thousand having to sell it.
Thank you! Yes you’re absolutely right, hiring is a great idea… if you do manage to get one, happy travels! 👍
Many Thankx! Im going to live in one when I Buy it and Now I have to Truely consider all options!
