Esperanto was made for Europeans from East till West. Many words sound like latin or polish. It must be easy to learn if you are a Romanian.

Xiran Jay Zhao (look her up, she's so cool!) made an interesting distinction that because food is a cultural element and not a monolith, it's important to recognize that there is no such thing as a "real" gongbao hiding. Therefore, it's better not to distinguish things as authentic/nonauthentic just because they come from mainland China or not, because that adds to the identity conflict that I and many diaspora cultures experience: too American to be authentic, but also too authentic to be American. It might be better to change our perspective to look at it as Chinese-American style gongbao jidang? It's the same dish that's alive and has adapted to survive where mostly yt people live 😂😂😂

I can't believe this doesn't have more views. This documentary on a subculture is very well produced. I would easily say it's on par with VICE in terms of production quality and the way they choose their topics. Keep going in this direction and you'll become a great producer. I like how raw it is; it doesn't try to spin a message but simply reports on how some people's lives in rural China differ from what people in Shanghai might think. When I saw the area where the filmmaker grew up, I couldn't help but notice how similar it is to the lives of people in Vietnam, which I've seen while traveling through every province. Good job bro (or bros if you are a team) :)

A very different picture from the shiny videos in Esperanto coming out of China. A story worth repeating here. There was a student from China who came to NASK one summer recently. He was studying in the US - perhaps in Chicago. Surely he was a special student - given many opportunities to learn English at home - and to study abroad. He speaks and studies in English every day, and yet, at the end of the Esperanto course, he stood up and said in Esperanto how grateful he was for an opportunity to spend a week in the US "without a language barrier" - i.e. speaking Esperanto, a language which he is apparently more comfortable in, even though he had fewer opportunities to practice it.

My father is Manchurian, from Hulunbuir. My mother is from Mongolia, and i do experience a bit of both cultures. I learned basic words in Manchu when i was younger, like Sain no (Hello) and baniha (Thank you). It is quite easy since Manchurian and Mongolian are somewhat similar. I definitely notice that Mongolian culture is much more dominant and 'alive' than the Manchu language and culture, in basically everything, the festivals in Mongolia are more traditional than Manchu, which has basically assimilated into Han Chinese culture. I personally think that the next generation of Manchurians will be Han Chinese, Manchurians and its culture will be forgotten and eaten by the 'hungry chinese assimilation dragon'. And unfortunately the Manchu language isn't receiving any too little support, as Manchurians are seen very negatively in Mongolia and Mongolian culture, despite being similar. I hope that the language can be preserved, but these things die overtime, it is natural.
