    Does the seat belt positioning clip and strap come with the seat? If yes, is it stored in the seat or loose in a bag, if in a bag I guess we misplaced it.

    The answer to that depends on which booster seat you got. You could always contact the manufacturer and ask for a replacement

    Question…are you supposed to pull all the slack out of the seat belt after you buckle them in? Or do you leave it loose like with adults? Just buckle and go?

  • @megan.hackworth
    @megan.hackworth9 ай бұрын

    There's generally no need to lock the seat belt with booster seats. As long as the child is sitting with the belt properly positioned across their body, the emergency locking mechanism of the seat belt will keep them safe. Great question!

  • @megan.hackworth
    @megan.hackworth4 ай бұрын

    You just slide the shoulder portion of the seat belt through the belt guide and position it at your child's shoulder. Then the strap goes behind their back and it just helps position the seat belt in the right place.

    The difference is that the belt guide strap holds the shoulder belt up against the middle of his collar bone instead of it cutting across his neck. 🙂 Comfier for the child, but most importantly, safer!

    @@melissahall5596 yep you're right. I was just demonstrating where you would adjust it to. I didn't actually make the adjustment on the strap because it would've taken longer than I wanted. Yes. Not only did I find one on the garage floor while cleaning it out, I found one in a drawer in the laundry room. I usually keep parts and we had two Graco 4&1, plus a booster. The kids are 4 apart. I had my 4 year old on the booster for a week but momma complained about the strap and ease of disconnecting. But now that I found the adjusters I’m at least going to remove the car seat in my van. I’m over the car seats. Lol but thanks for the video. No long presentation for a 1 minute act. It was straight to the point and helpful as I think you intended.

  • @megan.hackworth
    @megan.hackworth Жыл бұрын

    The headrest on this car seat does not move, but there are many other seats that have moveable head rests. Don't forget to move up the harness straps to always be above the child's shoulders as well when they're riding in a forward-facing car seat

    Do you happen to know at what weight your baby needs to be to turn the carseat forward?

  • @megan.hackworth
    @megan.hackworth2 жыл бұрын

    For the Evenflo Sonus car seat, the baby has to be AT LEAST 22lbs, 28 in, AND 2 years old before they can ride in the seat facing forward. However that leaves a lot of grey area where the seat can be used either forward- or rear -facing, and the safest way to use the seat is rear-facing. So instead of rushing to turn the seat around as soon as you can, I would urge you to keep your child facing the rear until they reach either 40 pounds or 40 inches, whichever comes first. There's no maximum age for fear-facing, so many parents are able to keep their kids rear-facing until even 4 years old or so!

    Thank you for this. Just bought this and it’s nice to see another parent securing theirs. I have installed mine this same way, in a smaller car. The back is SOLID! Thankfully! However, when I pull up the tether to tighten the harness I can feel the seat part move. Is this normal? Does the child’s weight help secure that part? Maybe this is normal and as long as the back doesn’t love it’s secure but it seems a little odd to me that the bottom of the seat would move with the back being so solidly secured. Thank you! :) First time parent transitioning to a high back booster so any tips and tricks would be so lovely!

  • @megan.hackworth
    @megan.hackworth2 жыл бұрын

    Yes, I have noticed this as well, and I'm with you... Not too thrilled about the situation, but I also don't think it's a safety concern as long as the car seat is secured tightly at the belt path (moves less than 1 inch) and secured using lower anchors or the seat belt AND top tether. I ended up just using my knee to hold the bottom of the seat in place when I pull the harness tightening strap.

    Hi .. am looking for buying this car seat for my 2 year old.. can you suggest this would be a better option?

  • @megan.hackworth
    @megan.hackworth2 жыл бұрын

    The safest option for most two-year-olds would actually be to keep them rear-facing in a convertible car seat until they outgrow the height or weight limits of that car seat. But once they have outgrown the limits of their rear-facing convertible car seat, most of those can actually be turned around and used in forward-facing mode longer, so there would be no need to buy a separate forward-facing car seat. That said, if you're in a situation where you just need a new car seat and you know your child needs to be forward-facing in the car, this one is perfectly acceptable so long as the child meets the minimums of the seat (at least 22 pounds and 28 inches tall). All car seats sold in the US need to meet the same federal safety standards, so the best seat for you will be the one that fits your child (height, weight, etc), fits well in your car (i.e. you can get a good, tight installation), and that you can use properly every time. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has a helpful tool for choosing a seat which you can find here www.nhtsa.gov/campaign/right-seat

  • @megan.hackworth

    Sorry it's not the best video...I really need to redo this one. Here are the steps: 1. Loosen the harness straps all the way by pressing the silver button at the bottom of the seat while you pull at the shoulder portion of the straps. 2. Turn the car seat around so you're looking at the back and find the metal splitter plate. 3. One at a time, release the straps from the splitter plate. It's easiest to do this by scrunching the canvas webbing in towards the center and then leading it out of the pathway with the outer edge of the strap. It is very difficult to remove these if they're folded up, so get the edge out first and the rest will follow. 4. Bring the strap all the way out through the front of the car seat and feed it through the slot you want, then reattach it to the metal plate, making sure it's secure. (For a rear-facing child, pick the slot at or just below their shoulders. For forward-facing, use the slot at or just above their shoulders.) 5. Follow the same steps to move the other strap. *I recommend doing these one at a time, not together, to make it easier to see how they reattach and not accidentally get things twisted up.* You can also shorten the straps for an infant by using the slot in the middle of the straps after the large sewn in section.

    How do you take the car seat apart to get to the splitter thing?

  • @megan.hackworth
    @megan.hackworth Жыл бұрын

    @@annahipperson8496 are you working with the Sonus car seat? If so, you don't have to take anything apart, just loosen the straps all the way and look at the back of the car seat and you will see it. Some car seats have the splitter plate hidden within the shell, so instructions for those seats will be different.
