    My wife and I love watching this show with my daughter, so we were ecstatic when this was announced. I was so disappointed after the initial reviews came out talking about the bugs and lack of things to do after the main story, but now we may have to get it someday if we can find it for cheap!

    This guy is more concerned in some "bad words" more than the rainbow agenda this game throws at us 😂. Like the Hailey mission which embraces delinquents that if you're gonna grafitti then do it with grace and use the trans people colours. There is so much more than some "bad words" in this game to be concerned about but ok.

    Only thing I know is as a kid, I played Metroid Prime 2 and was so afraid of the dark splinters bosses you have to defeat to access the temple at the beginning I couldn't beat that I sold the game right after.

    One I'd recommend that doesn't necessarily fit the "family friendly" aesthetic, but would be great for older kids/pre-teens is Metroid Prime 4, which is set for next year. The Metroid Prime games have the look of a more mature sci-fi shooter, but the violence never gets more graphic than "bug guts" on the screen. It's slow paced and has Zelda-style Z-targeting based combat, so aim skill isn't an issue. My friends and I played a lot of the original when we were ~9 and became lifelong fans of the series. The remaster of the first game came out last year and 4 is slated for next year

  • @TheParentsGuidetoGaming

    That’s a great recommendation! I wanted to keep this particular video to games that are releasing this year, but Metroid Prime 4 is definitely on my radar. Thanks for pointing out the features of the game that make it more accessible to younger audiences.

I do disagree about older teen I play this day it came out when I was 13 but my favorite game since the 5th grade is GTA V so I bet I can handle it better then some kid my age. I think you should do a review of the first 2 insomniac Spider-Man games and maybe one of the Arkham games.

    Don't have kids or anything, but I have a feeling that Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door might be a good one to play together, The story should be simple enough for little ones to enjoy, the battles are turn based but have some timed button presses so you can take it at your own pace while also having the something to keep hands busy without being overwhelming. All the numbers are also small and easy to grasp with basically no math skills, and you might even be able to teach some simple reading and math skills along the way. Pikmin would also be good for a bit of an older audience, the games can be somewhat demanding on the dexterity and intellectual side.

    Good video. We’ve had the most success with yoshi crafted world, Kirby star allies, and mario odyssey. All 3 have gentle difficulty curves, yoshi has an “assisted mode”, and the collectathon nature of all the games helps with replay ability.

  • @Silveraith

    Something you missed in your review is that the game can be played cooperatively with another person. The second player character, Bandanna Waddle Dee, has a more limited moveset from Kirby (spear only vs many copy abilities), but he can take damage with little consequences, only needing to wait a little bit to respawn after being defeated, rather than ending the level with a loss like Kirby when he goes down. It makes for a great co-op experience between a parent and child, or really any duo of differing experience levels. If the kid isn't ready for the full experience and just wants to tag along on the adventure, Waddle Dee provides an opportunity to do so with zero hinderance, while also allowing them to be a full character rather than just being like Mario's hat in Super Mario Odyssey. Alternatively, the parent can take up the spear themselves, popping in to assist if the kid playing Kirby is having a tough time fighting an enemy. The other Kirby games on Switch, "Star Allies" and "Return to Dreamland Deluxe" offer co-operative play with up to four people, but aside from the numbers allowing more of the family to play together, I'd say Forgotten Land's co-op experience is the best overall. As a last note, Kirby games have always been known as one of the best stepping on points for new young gamers, and a big part of this is the fact that while much of the game is pretty easy, they will always have a last leg (usually only accessible after finishing the main game) that takes the gloves off to give players a taste of greater challenge.

  • @TheParentsGuidetoGaming
    @TheParentsGuidetoGamingАй бұрын

    You’re right, I totally forgot about co-op! That’s a great point and adds even more value to this game that’s already a great title for kids and new gamers.

    me when I'm so starved for new cuphead content I watch this all the way just to be entertained Overall, good review! I have to disagree when you describe Cuphead as "pixel perfect" and "requires memorization", I think the main skill you need is just to be able to think on your feet, since most bosses have a lot of RNG (in fact I think the only two that don't are the tutorial bosses), and there's just enough room for error. sure, each boss has attacks and each run n gun has layouts you need to know, but it's not too difficult to learn what they do after the first few attempts. but yeah, it would be tricky for a kid, especially younger ones.

    Personally, I’d say this game is for kids 12 years and up. I personally got this game when I was 13 and was able to 200% the game after about 6 months of playing. I got the DLC when it came out and was able to 300% the game not long after. I’m 15 now and haven’t touched the game in about a year, but this video has convinced me to go back and play it.
