Nursing School Explained

Nursing School Explained

This channel helps nursing students, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to understand a variety of healthcare-related topics. These include disease processes, pathophysiology, signs and symptoms, risk factors, treatment options, related laboratory and diagnostic findings as well as nursing care. It aims to clarify these topics by breaking them down into simple terms and concepts so students can gain a better understanding of the topic.
Clinical skills are demonstrated in an easy-to-follow format and rationales for nursing actions are being provided.
It further delivers resources for clinical rotations, commonly used mediations, and test success.

    Hi Charlie! Yes, a positive Romberg is when the patient sways a lot, has to take a step to prevent themselves from falling, or falls. A negative Romberg test is when the patient remains steady or there is only very minor swaying. Hope this helps!

    (This is long, so I hope people will be patient.) Just last week I was taken by ambulance to the ER because my blood pressure was 236/98. I was not hospitalized. In fact, except for the paramedics taking care of me when they came to my house and while transporting me to the hospital, the nurses running around when I first got to the ER and the brusque, almost rude, doctor who had zero bedside manner peppering me with questions I was pretty much left alone except for an ECG, urinalysis and bloodwork. (I was hooked up to a heart monitor.) I was given an Rx for a blood pressure medicine prescription when I left the ER. As advised I went to my family doctor (actually a PA) two days after going to the ER and he increased my bp prescription. This is what has lowered my bp to normal except for it being somewhat elevated in the afternoon, but not high enough to be called any sort of a crisis. I have a heart rhythm problem for which I had a heart ablation and six months later I had an emergency pacemaker inserted when I had 3rd Degree Heart Block. After things settled down I now go to my cardiologist once a year. Several years ago took me off of the blood pressure medicine he'd prescribed because he said I might pass out from having too low blood pressure. All of my blood pressure readings have been normal for around 5+ years until this past week. The only thing different was taking Memantine for tremors which I'd taken for 1 month, gradually increasing my dosage to the full amount. I was on the full amount for just one week when I had to go to the ER. I went off of this Rx and will never take it again. I read later that it can cause a person's blood pressure to go too high.

    Hi, I’m a 19 year old male, who came across this video, im otherwise very healthy, but honestly I can’t do the thumb to fingertip as fast as in this video, I always miss. Is this something to worry, or am I just a little uncoordinated? I can do the others tests without any worry

    Do we also find in Adenosine deaminase?

  • @NursingSchoolExplained
    @NursingSchoolExplained16 күн бұрын

    I had to do a little research about adenosine deaminase and here's what I found: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6900608/ It appears that ADA has cardioprotective effects in patients with CAD and MI but further research is needed. I have not seen ADA measured in patients in my clinical practice. Thanks for the interesting question!

    Hi, good demonstration there. A question please. If you are tasked to perform an assessment bring it pain assessment, respiratory, abdominal cardio etc, do you always have to check vital signs before the focused assessment?

  • @NursingSchoolExplained
    @NursingSchoolExplained21 күн бұрын

    It is good practice to incorporate VS into any assessment as they provide important details about the patients' overall status and complete the data gathering process. For any clinical practice evaluations, please check with your instructor.

    Your videos are so helpful. Very simple and to the point with just enough information to really grasp a working knowledge. THANK YOU! Just one correction, you said orthopnea was shortness of breath with activity. I am very sure you already know that orthopnea is shortness of breath when lying down. I figured it was just a mistake, but just in case someone got confused like I did I wanted to mention that.

    So peak & trough test shows drug concentrations in specific tested organs? Or is this test showing amount of the active drug working physiologically-pharmacologically in serum levels in specific organs? It’s not indicative of effect on perception at any time?

  • @NursingSchoolExplained
    @NursingSchoolExplainedАй бұрын

    Peak and through measure the serum concentration of a specific drug to determine steady state, dosing, and metabolism of that specific drug in a person's body. Hope this helps!
