    Looks good, but do you have a brake on the trolly to stop bike pushing it forwards as you ride bike into chock?

  • @KTMPappy
    @KTMPappy4 күн бұрын

    Really good question. I have threaded holes at the bottom of each ramp. I just thread in bolts and roll the trolly wheels up to it to hold in place. when the bike is on the trolly I just remove the bolts and winch it up.

    100% correct. I hav passed it along, but thoroughly enjoyed the time I had it. My current project is a 1980 Yamaha XS1100 with 20K miles. Has been sitting for a while. Runs, but needs carb work and tuneup.

    Pappy how are your aluminum threads holding up ?

  • @KTMPappy
    @KTMPappy Жыл бұрын

    I've had no problem with the threads, but make sure you use stainless bolts. Other bolts could cause electrolysis and cause the threads to deteriorate.

    Thank you for your comment. No. Sadly, I don't have enough room to keep all of the bikes I would love to have. This was a true survivor that required little more than cleaning up and taking care of a few maintenance details. I passed this on to a gentleman that was happy to get it in pristeen condition.

    What about brakes Pappy ? Im building one like yours and need a way for it to stay put as I drive my motorcycle up on it.

  • @KTMPappy
    @KTMPappy Жыл бұрын

    Good question Thomas. For holding the trolly in place while driving your bike on it. I drilled and threaded a hole at the bottom of the channel for the trolly and put a bolt (about 3" long) in it. When I rolled the trolly up against it, the bolt would keep it from rolling forward. When the bike is secured I just remove the bolt.

    tour break down on an old bike is dangerous to say the least! parts and service guide lines may not allow them to work on decades old bikes!

  • @KTMPappy
    @KTMPappy Жыл бұрын

    I do my own maintenance so guidelines don't apply. Timing belts are readily available and should be replaced at regular intervals otherwise a hard breakdown involving piston/valve clearance could cause serious paroblems. Then parts availibility could be an issue.

    Sorry for the very late reply. With the winch mounted on the cart it doesn't require an idler pully because the cable doesn't move. It simply winds up on the winch and moves the cart. That's the advantage of mounting it on the cart versus a stationary mount on the the rails.

  • @williamhill6723
    @williamhill67232 жыл бұрын

    The wench being mounted on the cart loader you must have a idler pully mounted on the trailer & also on the truck, also how do you unload your wench is resealable. Raising the front of your guide tracks on your truck & trailer would cause the pully to want to roll back out when unloading, that would put tension on your wench cable to alow your reverse mode to control the unloading ,

    I picked up A2000 GL 1500 recently with just over 40,000 miles on it. The bike was literally nearly showroom clean. I just got it out of a local Shop, where I gladly sunk about 1,800 into it, bringing it up to factory new condition. It is a wonderful ride all day machine. Totally agree, got to love those gold wings

    I got a GL1500 because of a house build needing storage shed cleared out! I needed to work on everything you've mentioned, but not fuel pump. I made template of windshield's bottom, then transfered that bottom shape from template to above vent with no damage! It cut shield height considerably but I like it better. Several side cover plastic pins were broken off, so pins needed repairs. It's an 88' an now the smoothest running engine I've ever seen. I can balance a coin on it side on it's running motor, amazing! GW is old, but I think it's just a wonder of technology! Why doesn't Honda upgrade this bike an bring it back! I had a venture too! Great bike as well! You got me bet on price though! I got him down to $2000, but no lower, then he said $1800 if I pick it up before holiday, so I did!

    1200 Wings were the best. Honda could spend more of the development budget on the cycle parts as the engine needed very little development. The 1500 is a technological tour de force but the cost cutting is obvious in places.

    Tyres are the big thing with these I used Metzlers Me 88s when I owned one, mine was a Canadian import with quite a bit of bling $2000.00 dollars wow. In a country like yours cruise control works well, great two up bike, these engines need more revs to make them perform and then you get some spirited riding. I had a after market windscreen that came from the USA mine was a 1987, we had the head sets and that was great my wife used to chat to one another and listen to music and the CB only worked once or twice and I was once chatting to some Goldwing riders or another venture rider. Yes these are fuel hungry but still a great long distance tourer thanks for your video.
