Mary Shelly didnt understand electricity, she had only ever seen lightning and read by candlelight. Adolf Huxley had no conceivable way of understanding genetic manipulation on the level he writes about in brave new world but it dosent matter. It has never really been about the science being possible or accurate as much as it is about the human experience, always. People not understanding that the fi in Sci-fi stands for fiction is their own idiocy.

Whoa, this interview was awesome. Also, I just finished Mirrored Heavens tonight & it.was.so.good. More people on YT need to be talking about the whole trilogy. I never do re-reads of books but I’m considering starting over just so I can stay in that space longer. Well done Rebecca!

Great interview. The dynamic between Lukas and Flea is what makes this book. I typically read sci fi only. This was my first fantasy book and it opened the door to the fantasy genre.

Engaging and fun. Your mediation was pitch-perfect and kept the discussion moving at a good pace, without any longeurs. You gave Paolo just the right milieu so that he could give a lot of valuable insights. This was my first SFF Addicts podcast (you appeared on my Twitter feed for the first time) but I will listen again. Thank you.

I don't really think "bad ppl are born bad and black and good people are born divine and white, all historical accounts are known, the same and compeltely known" fscist LOTR is a good example for a thumbnail about good worldbuilding 😬😬😬😬😬

Oh, I cannot wait to read this book. Ugh. That being said, I've had this discussion with my parents, my wife, my children, and many of my friends...but I am the type of person that would NOT change any part of my life. I feel that I am the person I am today, BECAUSE of all the choices that I've made. And, I'm happy with my life. Now, my life has not been perfect, but I wouldn't/couldn't KNOW which choice would've gotten me a better life, than the one that I've live. Be true to yourself. When I was a young adult, I watched the Star Trek: Voyager Two Parter, called The Year of Hell. In it, it deals with a device that is able to change the future...and it scared the hell out of me. No thank you. BUT, I do want to read the book...and I'm interested to see IF I will be the type of person to JUST read it through WITHOUT making any choices, or would I be daring enough, since it isn't MY life...that I do make choices. AND, if so, what choices would I make...and would they actually have been better. Hmm? You see...I really DO need to read this book. Thank you for this wonderful (and creative) interview. I have LOVED everyone of her published works...and she is ALWAYS and automatic buy. Thank you.

I think a lot of the pet peeves boil down to cases where the female characters are flatter - every female fits into some kind of box of stereotypes (they embody all the stereotypically feminine traits, they're fulfill the female roles - sex worker, mom, love interest only), and all the diverse characters (the support tech person! the mentor! the antagonist!) are male by default. Where male is the default, I guess is what I'm saying.

This is your friendly reminder that there are more than two genders :) Thank you as always for the interesting content that makes me think more about what I read. I definitely want to check out Stephen's books now. One of the things that annoys me is when a female character is supposed to be "strong" by not liking any female-coded pursuits. They all have to wear trousers and hate embroidery. Some of us like knitting *and* swordfighting. People are messy - that's what makes us interesting.

Yes, This thing is always there, that westerners expect from Indians only write stories around Indian myths and folklore, or about Indian life in literary fiction. The same thing was said by Salman Rushdie in an interview.
