Hi, my name is Mike. I've been a youtube content creator since the early days, but wasn't very serious about growing the channel until recently.
I enjoy building things, and fixing stuff. I do most of my own auto repairs, and home repairs. I also enjoy DIY projects. And I usually have at least one project car.
Speaking of project cars, I have an E46 BMW that I'm turning into a race car. I got it cheap, because it was really rough! I'm also modifying my daily driver to make it more fuel efficient.
If this kind of stuff interests you, then you might want to stick around!

Nothing like proper tool for the proper job.
Get a different impact even rusty ones I can get out with my dewalt
it's not even sketchy, just gotta do what u gotta do
It’s not sketchy if it works! 😂
I bent the one wrench, LOL.
Ryobi? Bro just buy a Milwaukee or dewalt 😂
Uses the same internals as Milwaukee
that's cause its a ryobi 😂
For my air-cooled classic car, an engine rebuild cost about $20k at least if not more. I am glad you proved that Ceratec improves MPG for your auto. I am using it to reduce the engine wear.
Safety Squints engaged! 😛
Hey nice your job for us! I have a question: Have you ever heard a noise coming from the steering wheel that goes "knock-knock"? Could it be the steering gear?
Yes, I do get a clunk sometimes. I've replaced almost the whole suspension (because it was worn out), and the clunk is still there. So maybe it's in the steering rack? I'm not sure.
hope sarah n tuned had the best pride month ever!
Not to make to much of fuss. You only need one can for 6 litres of oil. You bought 2. So it’s $25 not $50 so there for worth it.
hey buddy im Sure you have a video in your inventory somewhere but whats this "catch can"? Is it for oil that is leaked/spilled/burnt? thanks in advance
Really cool car
Thanks!
Tire punctures are annoying, especially when the tires are fairly new.
I'm restoring an old HF trailer. Can you please tell.me how to get bearings out of the hub? They are deep in a round pipe. Or how do you get the hubs of the axle. I don't know what I'm doing but am trying. Thank you.
I've never disassembled the hubs. Sorry.
I had to remove and reinstall my front mirrors, because the seals shrunk which caused a hideous shriek as I drove 40+ mph. 😂
I'm definitely trying this one before the weekend is up.
I have no logical reasoning behind this, but I feel like I'm never going to try an oil additive in my 09 Prius. I will try and have tried gas additives.
You put in that work!!!

30 mm on the front is to stiff compared to rear you will encourage understeer
Nope. This is a suspension setup called "flat ride". Google it.
Awesome. Easy and to the point. Thanks
glad to help
It's the return line, I presume. I'd put a filter on the return barb of the catchcan so the oil doesn't return to the intake and Intercooler.
Legal to have amber color in the parking lights like you do?
Is this a joke?
LOL the Only Fans comment... hey, there is a fetish for everything so don't sell yourself short, haha... LSD = yay!
Did you get the friction disc LSD or the helical? I'm planning on doing the friction disc one, mainly because I occasionally get the inside wheel off the ground while racing, and the helical really has a issue with that
I went helical, because it's basically maintenance free.
It's been a little difficult to find a real world review of the LSD, so I would like to see a follow up on it.
Good idea. I'll keep that in mind.
@umvr me too , it's a great video.
@@umvr ditto.
Nice ending bro❤️
Thanks!

I've just found this series a few years late it seems. I was looking for header videos and found yours, the format is great and good information. I've also just seen you have some 90+ videos on this e46 project up until now! Not enough views on your videos so far in my opinion.
Thanks!
thanks a lot for this detailed video :)
You should consider getting an N52 engine. It will swap right in and makes a lot more HP compared to the older M54. Could be bit more fragile though is you intend to supercharge later on. The SI variant of the 3l makes about 264bhp here in the UK. Peach of an engine. Luv and Peace.
I'm from the UK so not sure exactly what E85 is but i'm guessing it's some higher octane fuel less prone to pre-ignition. I think if the tune you had previously had retarded timing before any engine pinking then there probably won't be much extra power if any. That said you can now probably get a lot more aggressive in your tune with cam timing now the fuel is less prone to pre-ignition. Luv and Peace.
Here's the video where I talk about the E85 conversion. I explain E85 and why I'm doing the conversion, in the first 90 seconds or so. kzread.info/dash/bejne/qX9tj85sk8_Xc7A.html
That's disappointing. I thought I was gonna see a race between an E46 and a 1st gen Z4. Two of my favourite cars. 🙂
You may have already got some lightweight wheels, but if you don’t that could help your times as well as your differential. Also the traction control programming is there to minimize one tire fire and save the diff and the only real way to get around leaving it off is to have more tire width on all driven tires. No wheel spin = better time
Good points. I don't have lightweight wheels yet, but it's on the list. Also, the next video will cover the LSD install. 😎
cool
Great job. I use pto pins inserted from underneath the trailer for easy removal of the tailgate.
I don't recall if you have played with the tune (fueling, etc... the Shark tunes aren't cheap, but I would be curious to see if you could measure an improvement on the strip...). Rear diff helping the channel with extra content, haha. Sorry!
I made some minor adjustments to the tune, but basically just driveability stuff. Also, this was the perfect excuse to get a LSD. 😎
@@michaelblacktree Hell yeah!
Corn fed e46, just like that chicken, haha.
My one neighbor decided to become a chicken farmer. Not much I can do about it.
@@michaelblacktree Big chicken farm went in up the road from my rural western NC childhood home (a whole half mile from where I live now, haha)... didn't always smell the best, but luckily the prevailing winds were usually favorable, haha. The buildings are still there, but luckily the chickens are not!
Yay, new video!
manual swap it

Its work !! Thanks from germany
Thanks for the Vid. I installed a unit from Aliexpress. Looks exactly the same. Only problem has been the steering wheel controls. There is no Mode button on the stereo. On yours (or anyone else) did the mode work? I was able to get into the factory settings as well with a code I foiund on youtube but still cant get the mode to work. When I program it in to anything else the stereo does weird things with the volume up and down. I can verify you can get almost the same system for about $100 shipped from ali as of now. So far working well. Tip. make sure you get the 68ohm resistor and not a 68k like I did at first.
You dont need to remove EGR, i did this job yesterday, if you are smart, you can do easily.
Hey guys! You may have noticed the BMW still has the old front end in this video. That's because this was filmed before the facelift project. I decided to release this video after the facelift project, so this video can segue into the rear differential upgrade. Hope that makes sense. Also, if you want up-to-date info on the project, check out the build thread on E46 Fanatics ---> www.e46fanatics.com/threads/build-thread-the-basket-case-bmw-project.1284565/
Can anyone tell me which model in Europe will have the same Sway Bar like Prius 2 please anyone have some information
One thing to note about this having just one this. The video mentions that the drive axle should be removed from the transmission, however all that NEEDS to happen is the drive axle coming apart from the wheel hub/knuckle/carrier what have you, which is a lot simpler than removing the axle from the transmission.
I decided I would rather detach it from the transmission. But you can do what you want.
@@michaelblacktree right right. What I'm getting at is that you can easily do this job and just remove the 30mm 12point axle nut from the wheel rather than have to go through the pain of removing all 6 triple square nuts on the transmission side of the axle. Again, do it however you want, but boy do I avoid having to remove those axle nuts like the plague. :)
Need some wheel spacers now 👌
Hi where did u get ur injectors?
I got them from ebay, but they're available from several vendors.
Greetings, thank you some much for saving my time, energy & safety with this video tutorial and demonstration!!! I greatly appreciate your support and help!!! -Nami
Hi. Any squeaks come about over time? Usually poly bushings go 'dry' over time and make tiny noises, hence why many suppliers provide grease fittings in their mounts.
So far, so good. But I imagine they'll eventually need to be regreased.
