michael blacktree

Hi, my name is Mike. I've been a youtube content creator since the early days, but wasn't very serious about growing the channel until recently.

I enjoy building things, and fixing stuff. I do most of my own auto repairs, and home repairs. I also enjoy DIY projects. And I usually have at least one project car.

Speaking of project cars, I have an E46 BMW that I'm turning into a race car. I got it cheap, because it was really rough! I'm also modifying my daily driver to make it more fuel efficient.

If this kind of stuff interests you, then you might want to stick around!

    Hey nice your job for us! I have a question: Have you ever heard a noise coming from the steering wheel that goes "knock-knock"? Could it be the steering gear?

  • @michaelblacktree

    Yes, I do get a clunk sometimes. I've replaced almost the whole suspension (because it was worn out), and the clunk is still there. So maybe it's in the steering rack? I'm not sure.

    You should consider getting an N52 engine. It will swap right in and makes a lot more HP compared to the older M54. Could be bit more fragile though is you intend to supercharge later on. The SI variant of the 3l makes about 264bhp here in the UK. Peach of an engine. Luv and Peace.

  • @ianedmonds9191
    @ianedmonds919126 күн бұрын

    I'm from the UK so not sure exactly what E85 is but i'm guessing it's some higher octane fuel less prone to pre-ignition. I think if the tune you had previously had retarded timing before any engine pinking then there probably won't be much extra power if any. That said you can now probably get a lot more aggressive in your tune with cam timing now the fuel is less prone to pre-ignition. Luv and Peace.

    You may have already got some lightweight wheels, but if you don’t that could help your times as well as your differential. Also the traction control programming is there to minimize one tire fire and save the diff and the only real way to get around leaving it off is to have more tire width on all driven tires. No wheel spin = better time

  • @michaelblacktree

    Thanks for the Vid. I installed a unit from Aliexpress. Looks exactly the same. Only problem has been the steering wheel controls. There is no Mode button on the stereo. On yours (or anyone else) did the mode work? I was able to get into the factory settings as well with a code I foiund on youtube but still cant get the mode to work. When I program it in to anything else the stereo does weird things with the volume up and down. I can verify you can get almost the same system for about $100 shipped from ali as of now. So far working well. Tip. make sure you get the 68ohm resistor and not a 68k like I did at first.

    Hey guys! You may have noticed the BMW still has the old front end in this video. That's because this was filmed before the facelift project. I decided to release this video after the facelift project, so this video can segue into the rear differential upgrade. Hope that makes sense. Also, if you want up-to-date info on the project, check out the build thread on E46 Fanatics ---> www.e46fanatics.com/threads/build-thread-the-basket-case-bmw-project.1284565/

    One thing to note about this having just one this. The video mentions that the drive axle should be removed from the transmission, however all that NEEDS to happen is the drive axle coming apart from the wheel hub/knuckle/carrier what have you, which is a lot simpler than removing the axle from the transmission.

  • @michaelblacktree
    @michaelblacktreeАй бұрын

    I decided I would rather detach it from the transmission. But you can do what you want.

  • @tyueda4285
    @tyueda4285Ай бұрын

    @@michaelblacktree right right. What I'm getting at is that you can easily do this job and just remove the 30mm 12point axle nut from the wheel rather than have to go through the pain of removing all 6 triple square nuts on the transmission side of the axle. Again, do it however you want, but boy do I avoid having to remove those axle nuts like the plague. :)
