I asked a few rabbis about this on behalf of a non-Jewish friend who wanted to put up a mezuzah on her front door. The answer I got was, "No," because it's sign of a Jewish household. For a non-Jew to put one up on his doorpost would be sort of false advertising. Also, if there is any kind of idol inside the house, that would be a desecration of G-d's name, for example if there is a cross hanging on the wall, or a picture of Yoshge, or any other sign of idol worship.

Can I place my mezuzah INSIDE the front door? Wondering as my house is not wooden and the door and frame are metal so I can't screw it in place. Looking out of the house from the entrance door, the left side (right side entering) is right up against a wall as well. Trying my best to do this right.

If i’m correct, you don’t necessarily have to put the mezuzah tilted. I think it’s an ashkenazi minhag. So if you don’t follow ashkenazi minhagim you can put it straight if you’re sephardi.

@gedaliakauffman42612 жыл бұрын
It depends on the mezuza case. Sometimes it comes apart lengthwise, ie the top half comes off. Sometimes there is a plug in the bottom that you remove. Other times there is a hollow space in the back of the mezuza. You'll just have to try it out and see which way it opens.

Always put the lights in from the right side going to the left. So, on the 5th night, the 5th candle is placed in the 5th spot from the right and is lit first. Then the 4th candle and so on.

I don’t want to use candles and have no outlet where I place my Menorah on a window sill so I bought a battery menorah. When I push the button the shamash and one ‘rod’ (the one of the right) light up; with each successive press another rod lights up etc. so it’s right to left for me but from the street it looks left to right. Tbh, I’m still not sure that’s the correct way.

@gedaliakauffman42613 жыл бұрын
Without seeing the door it is difficult to give a definitive answer, but in general the mezuza should be placed on the right side of the doorway as you are entering the house, outside of the house but in the doorframe itself.
