This camera has quirks, but it's by far the best camera I've ever owned. It inspires me to get out and shoot. My favorite lens to pair with the X-Pro3 is the Voigtlander NOKTON 23/1.2

Ricoh is superb. I had GR2 and was fantastic until got dust into sensor. Since few years I own a Fuji Xf10, looking at today prices, seems I got the best camera in the world

Great video , do you edit your audio in post? It’s really great based on what you’re using (or at least what we see you holding in your hand)

Your last advice is one of the most neglected and one of the most important… Choose a pair of running shoes from Nike, Hoka, New Balance or Asics Tiger and you can’t be wrong… But don’t go cheap on them…😊

After waiting months on the x100vi, I canceled that and bought the xs20 and received it this week. I like it, but have a lot to learn coming from the Canon world.

One of the reasons why I gravitate so much towards small cameras right now is exactly that - staying stealthy and respect private privacy. Regarding the storytelling part I'm still doing my best practising this, same for my video ^^'' Great tips as always Jay and congrats on 6k subs! 10k is literlaly around the corner :) Btw I dropped you a mail, but my account promped me some credential issues - hope it arrived, otherwise I'll resend it :)

    1. Shoot first, edit later. If the composition is crap just crop it, dont need to spend 15mins trying to get 1 photo and miss out on others. 2. No graveyards, no people mourning and no people praying. Some things dont need to be photographed. I might take wide angle shot of a temple but im not using a zoom lens to get a portrait shot.

Thanks for your video! This is such an important video. I use a XT-30 II and can't understand which lenses to buy. I currently own Fujinon 35mm F1/4 (love it) and the Sigma 18-50mm f2/8. Do you think its useful for me to get the Sigma you mention?

One thing I will say, and take this with a grain of salt because I'm a noob ie, is after a year of learning how to use the Ricoh gr3x, I am in love with the pictures I get. They are starting to glow. I'm finding I enjoy shooting with it more than my S5ii, even. There is just a pop, glow, and really cool colors that I can get with the different recipes. It took me a long time to find my groove, but when I found it I'm so grateful

Made it, I'm up to date with your recent video :D I agree with you regarding the fast pacing cuts we currently see often nowadays. It's always the same and it's somehow tiring for my eyes and brains. Love your short movie and for just guessing the focus you nailed it very well :D Pumped to see you cross 6k very soon and I guess 10k will follow shortly after :) Happy I discovered you on my recommended page and follow your journey while simulataniously working on mine :)

I heard and saw so many good things about that camera store and would love to visit and something from it some day. Specially curious about the Leica floor :) Happy for you having such a great time travelling and having the opportunity to shoot so many photos! Curious what you will come up with ideas when you are back home :)

The Ricoh looks like such a fun camera, but for me personally I will wait until the GRIV will come out. Doesn't matter if it will take a couple of years, I have enough cameras to play around until then :D The recipe looks nice, but since I shot a lot of Kodak Gold 200 on 35mm film recently it doesn't look similiar to my eyes. I guess the reason is Kodak Gold behaves differently in different light situations, sometime it get look quite neutral with a hint of warmth and sometimes it has that nostalgic warmths tone (all highly dependent on where the sun is positioned and shines). But I guess why your recipe doesn't look like Gold 200 to my eyes is properly the simple fact that the images looks too clean. If you add some grain it might come closer in my opinion. Still great seeing you just having fun and sharing it on your channel - highly appreciated ;)

Great points you made Jay! I wish I would have like minded people in my area to bounce ideas or learn from them, but right now I'm learning by doing and watching YT. Even if I might meet them in the near future, my currenty life chapter with two small kids and a full time job makes it quite hard to schedule. Family is always prio 1 at least for me at that's fine how things are right now. And when the kids grow up and are more independent, new time slots and opportunities should open up. For now I'm working with what I currently have available and get knew inspiriations through videos and channels like yours :)

When I played around with the Fujifilm system I was thinking about this lens a lot, because of its good reputation. But in the end I decided against it and went the Fujicron f2 route - simply because of the size and f2 was enough for me. But the images are looking stunning and that 1.4 is just handy :) Enjoy your new lens mate! :)

Somehow everything you put out and frame into words resonate with me :) Every single point you nailed. I'm aware of my GAS, but there are seasons I can't control it 😅 Now I have a small collection of digital and film cameras - and unfortunately not enough time to shoot them all, but I do my best and also try to combine it with content creation.

The Pocket and the GRIII seems to be a great combo for being relatively stealthy to shoot the street - great shot Jay! I got myself the PGYI neck moint, which work with the Pocket, but I feel extremely stupid wearing that setup around my neck while shooting POV video :D Also I found it not as ideal when wearing a camera neck strap in parallel. Here everytime I pick up the camera to take a shot, the strap potentially gets in front of the lens of the Pocket. I'm now thinking about a clip setup and clipping the Pocket to one of the bag straps, but then the field of view for POV is not in the middle anymore for real POV view experience ... perfectionist thoughts :D

Have been busy the last few weeks, but now I have queued up your videos to catch up :D I totally agree with all of your points and currently do my best to transfer my introverted nature into my photography. Just the fear of being calling out will probably will always stay when I go out on the street and shoot - just have to get used to it over time and practise I guess. I was called out directly at the beginning of my last POV shoot and felt guilty for the rest of the day ... :') Also I share your experience with your sister: most of my close friends are extroverted and now I have an extroverted wife, one extroverted toddler and my second daughter might also be extroverted, (I'm not sure yet, she turned one year a few weeks ago) :D

hmm, i just upgraded to fujifilm X-H2s and focus peaking works perfectly fine with my sirui nightwalker ? have you turn on color peaking in setting yet ? if this doesnt work try this Jay! Found the solution with a manual focus lens set the “PSAM” dial to the desired mode, then using the the “Q” menu, set Focus Mode to “MF’. Now, focus peaking works.

I think many people have missed the design concept of the xt-5 and 18 1.4. compaired to the xt-3 and 16-55 or such they seem lose, soft. ECT however they are more designed like hydrolic in feel and force needed. Smoth and easy to adjust one handed, dampened and near silent yet still positive in each step.

I bought that lens too but I was previously aware of the two annoying things about it: loose aperture ring and loose pieces inside when lens turned off. It seems to be a general characteristic of the lens, nothing technically wrong, I just hate it even if I do not feel the lens like cheep built. This is one of the flagship lenses from Fujifilm among others such as 23 and 33 f/1.4 WR. Some say it is the sharpest one, I cannot say because is my first f/1.4 WR but I can say I can see clearly the difference from other Fujifilm lenses I own such as 23mm f/2 or 16-80 f/4. I can see myself agreeing with some of your concerns about weight and the how "why not change to full frame" but the fact is this seems to be the only way for some of us (Fuji fan boys) remain loyal to the brand when time comes to step up to more professional usage of (generally) APSC. I started with Fujifilm because I do love the more tactile usage experience, it is true that I did also love the "smaller" form factor of my kit with the Fujicrons (16, 23, 50mm f/2) but moving more professionally either one sells everything and changes to full frame or, we start to understand that the latest glass and sensors from Fujifilm are very close to full frame quality wise and still cheaper than some f/4 glass on full frame. And I’m not speaking about Fujifilm color or film simulations. This type of lens is for someone who wants more clinical images but keeping in mind that holds a camera that can work on a more "analog" and funny way when desired and, making sense, with smaller or even manual lenses. Of course I’m speaking about me who owns a xpro3, I enjoy quite frequently the optical viewfinder, some manual focus lenses, to play with the dials…when I’m on travelling mode. When I want to get more serious, I can use the 18mm f/1.4 (or in a walk at night) and this lens doesn’t kill the Fujifilm magic to me at all. If I was a x-h2 user or xt-5 and maybe I would think twice but even there, honestly, I couldn’t find on other brands a 28mm f/2 full frame lens that paired with a body would give me the same versatile and sharp results has this lens on Fujifilm. Maybe… and that’s a maybe… the Leica Q3 with the summilux 28 f/1.7 ASPH but I would be stuck in one (only) focal length and paying 4 times more.
