    Beautiful trail and hot day to hike it! Glad you had some shade along the way. We've been having some over 100F days here but it is dry heat instead of humid. Nice that the trail maintenance came through ahead of you to widen the brush in parts. Nice that you were to camp early to relax. The only thing that is missing is a good lake to fish in your down time! LOL. Awesome trip so far. Have a great day.

    It’s a great trail. No dry heat heat. Very humid. Humid humid humid. It’s always a nice booster when you are hiking and see that the crew just came through and cleared it. Awesome! That’s one thing about PA, not many trails by large water sources that are great for fishing. There are plenty of awesome fishing and backpacking just not too much of both at the same time.

    Thanks Dave! The heat has been tough. But I’m ok with the heat while hiking. It’s when it’s hot at night when you are trying to sleep. The camp shoes are called XTRATUF Riptide Sandals. I ordered them from REI. They are really for water sports and stuff but I wanted something lighter than crocs. These are really light but they are pricey compared to crocs and cost $65. But the materials are softer and feels better than crocs in my opinion. Definitely a winner for me! I do like these more than my crocs.

Pretty sure all of them have a picnic table and most have extra chairs.

    I actually did find some trees to hammock at Scoval Branch shelter. If you’re looking out from the shelter, to the left of the big fire pit. Wasn’t ideal, but it worked. I did see that leaning pine tree to the right of the shelter where it would otherwise be a good hang. There is a small stream about 100 feet in front of the shelter down past the fire pit; a slight bit of bushwhacking to get to and might be dry during a drought. Did you have any encounters with the flying squirrel that lives in the shelter? It was really interested in my backpack 😁

  • @backpackingadventures4813
    @backpackingadventures4813Ай бұрын

    We were looking in there but the trees seems small/thin if I’m thinking of the same place. If you are looking at the shelter and look left there is a nice spot for a tent but two of the trees there were dead and back a few feet further there is a leaning tree almost down. Down past the fire pit is where I got water before. This time it was totally dry. There was water further down the trail but since we were going to hike on we got it where you can walk right down to it at about .8 miles. I didn’t see any flying squirrels. That would have been a neat but interesting experience.

  • @toesockoutdoors3627
    @toesockoutdoors3627Ай бұрын

    Yeah, the trees I had to hang on were pretty skinny. And yeah, to the left of the shelter as you look at it, is where I ruled out anything because of the leaning tree. The first time I went past there, some trail angels had left a bunch of gallon jugs of water in the shelter

    Yep. Just used it on my thru hike of the Susquehannock Trail. Like any of my gear it will depend on the type of trip because of the weight. The quilted hammock is about 12oz heavier than my regular summer hammock with my 40 degree underquilt. So if I’m going for pushing high miles between 20-30 a day I will take my lighter setup instead. But I love the quilted hammock. Very comfortable and so much easier.

    Thanks! I had a great time with Caleb. The Peak Refuels are really good. As far as price, they are pretty much the same as pack it gourmet, next mile meals, and a few others and a little more than the mountain house. I haven’t had the beef stroganoff in a long time. I used to get it in the mountain house. The thing I like about the peak refuels is the high calorie and protein content for the same price as the other company’s that have half the calories and protein.
