Filippo Dall'Asta

Filippo Dall'Asta

Filippo Dall’Asta is an Italian Gypsy jazz guitarist, composer, bandleader and arranger, mixing the sounds of Gypsy jazz with traditional Indian music, to forge his own style of progressive guitar playing.

Filippo began playing at the age of 5 in Parma, Italy, and studied music in his native country as well as Germany, France, Holland and India.

In 2010 he arrived in the UK. He has toured and recorded with hundreds of artists such as Mozes Rosenberg, Lollo Meier, Giacomo Smith, John Wheatcroft, Gypsy Dynamite, Tara Minton (Björk), Mehboob Nadeem, The Onironauts and many more. His touring resume covers Germany, India, Italy, France, Spain, England, Malta and Russia, with notable appearances at The Royal Albert Hall, the House of Parliament, the Tower of London, the Union Chapel, and many festivals in France and Italy.

Filippo released his first solo album in 2018: “Mediterasian”.

Wait, I'm confused. So we don't rack all the strings on the first downstroke? Just the first 2 strings proceeded by a quick downstroke?

Cool! Great arrangement, very cool solos (I'll have to slow it down a bit to learn some of those riffs). And the storyline is interesting. The "cowboy" wants to kill, the brave doesn't. We don't know the backstory, but I found it good although improbable - a guy running around the city with a gun, shooting at somebody, is not going to be doing that for long! I didn't find it political, but the hatred on the "cowboy" face was striking. The main thing, the music, was excellent.

Nice full tone on the single notes and the bark is just excuisite. I build manouche guitars as well and know this will only sound better in the next years. Since its 3 years ago if you still have it would you mind making an update vid to see how its matured?

Nice one Filippo, to hear your take on this beautiful semi-uptempo swing tune. Strange memory: after my dad played his one hot club de France record he would follow suit with his fingers Erroll Garner style on the piano and play exactly this tune. Hence I’ve heard it quit a few times. You’ve got a fine axe to make the necessary tones shine! Brilliant! Enjoy life amigo.

Very nice lesson. Love the Locrian #2 info, the usage over the half diminished chord was a color I just wasn't using, mostly due to my fretboard visualization and habits. This will be a fun color for me to include. Now I'm curious to see your ideas about other Melodic Minor modes.
