I happened to be in Anambra when this all went down. The disagreement between Chiejina and Derico stemmed from the fact that one of the two (I can't remember which) wanted them to stop robbing and killing Onitsha indigenes and concentrate on other Igbo tribes resident in Onitsha. This brewed dissent between the erstwhile best friends and Derico ended killing Chiejina at Ogbo-oya market in a very dramatic way. I saw the Bakassi boys a couple of times while I was schooling in the east and I saw many charred remains of their victims. My closest encounter with them was at my cousin's wedding. It was one of those Catholic weddings where about five couple s jointly celebrated their wedding. As soon as the service was over, we were all trooping out of the church when the bakassi boys arrived with some fanfare in a grey 504 wagon and carted away one of the grooms. Till today, I still wonder what became of that guy. It was a terrifying experience.
