Hey bro so I just recently installed the Gibson 57 Classic to my Yamaha Apx 500. The Gibson 57 is sautered to the Piezo line and the Piezo line is connected to the Yamaha apx preamp. Everything sounds great the only thing is I am getting distortion when the Gibson 57 is close to the strings. The volume knob on my preamp is very low, its slightly above 0. The distortion sounds like when audio is clipping over 0dB. When I put the Gibson 57 further away from the strings the distortion disappears and it sounds clean…but the Gibson 57 is way too far away from the strings. The Gibson 57 is supposed to be pretty close to the strings just like how you have yours set up. Basically it feels like the Gibson 57 is way too hot and when its close to the strings the audio is clipping. What do you suspect the issue may be? A Dominicano told me that I need to use the older 1990’s Apx Preamp but they don’t make those anymore.. What preamp are you using?

Will the Ibanez Pt3 PowerTrio work? Does the chorus sound the same as the Pt4? Even though the Pt3 doesn’t have reverb I can add reverb with another pedal right?

It won't sound EXACTLY the same, unfortunately, because the PT4 has reverb and the PT3 does not. However, if you can get the PT3 for cheap, it is still a good pedal. Antony Santos used the PT3 in the early 90's before switching to the PT4.

The Ibanez PT5 is a great and very similar pedal, to mount the pickup, take it to a professional luthier who does bachata guitar mounts. The guitar you can get online although I would reccomend a Yamaha APX guitar, either the 4A, 6A, 10, 10A, 10T, 10TS, 20, 20S, 20C or an Alvarez 5081, 5082, 5083, 5084 which are harder to find then the Yamaha's.

El ibanez pt4 tiene compressor, tone shaper(equalizador), chorus, y reverb. Esos son los efectos usado en este video.

@CMBG Music Excelente video! te quedo muy bien el montaje de la pastilla (pickup) y el procesador de efectos PT4 es muy bueno (y ahora es muy raro encontrarlo). Por cierto yo compre un PT4 hace rato pero no traia el manual original de los configuraciones para diferentes tipos de sonido, si acaso tienes el tuyo todavia, te quedaria muy agradecido si me pudieras compartir una foto o escaneo para completar mi PT4. He estado buscando por la red pero no lo encuentro y con el soporte de Ibanez no he tenido respuesta.

Pero si usas algun multiefecto puedes ponerle solo chorus y lo acomodas a gusto y para que suene así de picadito le subes el que dice pre delay que está dentro del chorus

Hola, solo para comentar que el soporte de Ibanez me ha enviado una copia del manual de ajustes del PT4 para obtener diferentes sonidos de la guitarra. Es una copia escaneada con baja calidad y ellos se han disculpado por ello pero aun asi es util (es legible por lo menos). Creo que el soporte de Ibanez es bueno ya que no soy el comprador original pero aun asi me enviaron ese manual. El correo al que pedi ayuda es: <[email protected]> espero que a alguien mas les puedan ayudar.

The only actual modification to the pickup was soldering the plug pin that I removed from the piezo onto the humbucker wire. This is done in order to connect the humbucker into the preamp slot where the piezo used to be plugged in.

Nope, definitely no resistors or capacitors whatsoever. '57 classic is regarded as the ideal pickup for bachata and a solid choice for other genres. Youre good to go. Feel free to reach out to me for any more clarifications as they help other readers.
