    I'm surprised you like Kyoshi, considering what they destroyed to do it. First and foremost, they took Aang's avatar demonstration, something every one of them has, his "force of nature" sphere, and gave it to Kyoshi. Thus, when he presumably does it in season 3 (if there is one), it'll be a ripoff of Kyoshi, not something of his own creation. Second, they've literally ripped away all of Roku's story. Roku is Aang's primary guide, and not just because he was the previous and that's basically the tradition. It's also bad because the world Aang inherits is DIRECTLY Roku's fault. He was lax in his duties as Avatar, letting Sozin amass power under his watch, and eventually leading to his betrayal at the hands of Sozin when defending from the volcano. It destroys the symbolism, and ruins their story. Yes, Aang did contact and get advice from many Avatars, including Kyoshi, but none of them were his guide like Roku. Third... The show is taking away so much from male characters. Aang loses his drive and guilt, Zuko loses his obsession with honor as his driving force, Sokka loses practically all his masculinity (he's no longer really obsessed about being a warrior), Iroh loses his pacifism and ends up being far too violent, Ozai loses his cruel malice that drives EVERYBODY on their journey, and Roku loses his role as guide and his chance at a redemption of sorts for his failings as Avatar. Taking all this away causes the show to basically fracture and fall apart. Yes, the female characters lose a lot, too, like Katara losing her motherly attitude, and her anger, but a LOT more male characters were damaged in this than female characters. I don't think they can fix it going forward. There's too much damage, too many fractures and character changes. Too much deviation from character journeys and world-building.

  • @TurtleKun
    @TurtleKunАй бұрын

    Maybe I worded it poorly, I did find the inclusion of Kyoshi and Kuruk to be positive because we got to see a larger variation in the previous avatars, this does not however mean I actually liked the way they were used. Both Kyoshi and Kuruk make the show worse than the original for multiple reasons, like you outline! I would have much preferred they either completely removed Roku's scene and introduce him in a later season and give Kyoshi more of an impact, or just not have given her any extra screen time. And honestly at this point I'd preferred if the show just was never made 😅 When it comes to more male characters being ruined I'll just say that there are more male characters in general, had their been an equal amount of women and men they'd all been ruined. Kyoshis inclusion has nothing to do with this, it's just that the show is bad in comparison to the original.

    I'm in the same boat about not fully vibing with Dark Souls Remastered. I chose to play Dark Souls 2 first, (feeling a kinship with it as the least popular one, hah) and I really like a few quality of life things they did, that I think you might like too - it has warping from the start, like DS3 and ER. DS Remastered made my thumbs and brain exhausted from all the runbacks. In Dark Souls 2, there is a hidden counter on each basic enemy - after defeat, they can only revive a max of 12 times. Some people think of it as a pity timer or a stain on their 'gamer cred' if they get an empty room, but I LOVED being able to render whole areas of DS2 completely harmless, to just run thru and enjoy the scenery. The boss-runbacks are MUCH more manageable without stray arrow damage. AND there's an in-game option to turn enemies back on, too. That was a choice that fit me personally really well. I think you might like DS2 for that reason, as I did. I felt so much more like I had truly conquered the threats in the world - the area was empty of enemies, the same way my laundry hamper is empty of clothes when they are all put away! DS2 is better played with knowledge of a FEW spoilers, which make no sense out of context - Level ADP, Burn the Windmill, and play offline. (Other players can invade you even if you are hollow, which is very unfun, imo.) Everything else that's confusing can be found with a guide, but most people won't warn you about playing offline. I just really like the game, and I wish more people would give it a chance to shine in its own unique way - almost everyone who plays DS1 first will like DS2 less, and vice-versa. I'm not sure how someone who loves Sekiro and Lies of P will find it, in terms of combat. It might be too ponderous, there IS a ton of variation, stuff even I at 500 hours haven't seen! I just wanted to share, since I love that game the way you love Lies of P :) PS - From one anxiety-riddled, stressed, hard-on-myself gamer to another - Don't be afraid to install mods! Life's too short to be upset with our entertainment, and blaming ourselves for not being good enough at it. A good analogy - I can't read Chinese. So if I want to experience 'Journey to the West' or 'Romance of the Three Kingdoms' I'll have to read a translation of it. That's what mods are - other people's help and effort that you use, to get you thru to the end, which is, seeing the whole story. It doesn't have to be Exactly Like The Original - that's why we have GRADES in school instead of everything being pass-fail, and pass being set at 100% correct! 98% is still really good, and anyone who wants to mock you up for that little imperfection is NOT to be listened to! Not even your own brain. Not an easy thing to do, I admit. It's something that comes with time, and practice. Telling the mean voice in your own head that its input is not valuable and you won't follow it... Really freeing, tho!

    The thing about OG Katara is by the time she gets to the Northern Water Tribe; you've seen how hard she has worked on her bending. You also see that she is a deeply passionate person that can be hardheaded and stubborn. She has a fire to her, and her trigger is being belittled. When she is fighting Paku you get mad with her, when Paku is belittling her you feel offended for her. Something that unfortunately the live action is lacking because we don't get enough time with the characters and their personalities are unfortunately watered down to the point that when they get their big moments they just fall flat. The great thing about OG Zhao is that he is calm, cool, collected, calculating, strategic... you almost feel like he is 2 steps ahead. He is an intimidating presence, but his trigger is his ego. The reason why in the deserter he fires at Aang not thinking about the fact that he just burned down his own ships is because he lost control. By that point Aang had gotten the better of him over and over again and his ego was bruised, so when Aang was taunting him, he attacked out of frustration not thinking about any potential consequences. The live action Zhao came off almost like he was a sniveling corporate guy that was willing to throw people under the buss for a promotion. I understand the direction they tried to take his character, but I unfortunately felt disappointed with the execution

  • @TurtleKun
    @TurtleKun2 ай бұрын

    So true about Katara! It really felt like they failed her the entire way and the cathartic end of her arc in season one was turned in to a boring fight! The thing about Zhao, at least to me, is that he feels quite human! The performance includes both his calculated side and his ego although it's not as well explored since key scenes are removed. But I really like how he feels like a real human who would, just like you said, throw someone else under the buss to get that promotion! Thanks for watchingand the thoughtful comment! @@shaneware7356 yeah that's completely understandable! I honestly prefer cartoon Zhao too! • @shaneware7356
    @shaneware73562 ай бұрын

    @@TurtleKun Admittedly, I could be slightly biased against Zhao because he and Zuko never had an Agni Kai. Throughout the OG show we as an audience got to see 3 Agni Kais. Zhao, Ozai, and Azula; all vs Zuko. Zhao attacks and opponent when his back is turned (very dishonorable), Ozai attacks an opponent who is refusing to fight back (very dishonorable), Azula attacks a bystander (again very dishonorable). Meanwhile Zuko spares Zhaos life, refuses to fight his own father, and takes the hit to protect Katara; all considered very honorable actions. All this to say it was a fantastic way for the OG creators to show how far the Fire Nation has fallen and how corrupt their idea of Honor had become. Beautiful subtle storytelling

    Thank you, everyone else online seems to be unable to understand why Iroh is such a problem here. I haven't directly watched the show, but I've seen so many clips I've got a pretty good idea of what they did to him. They removed his strong morals and pacifism that he gained after his son's death in a battle he ran. He kills so easily, encourages Zuko to ignore his conscience by forcing him to hire June, acts embarrassed by his affection for Zuko, and generally is more like Zuko in Book 1 of the cartoon than Zuko is like Zuko. The only way Iroh isn't like Book 1 Zuko is that he isn't prone to yell as much. It's like they sped up Zuko'a character and dialed back Iroh's to an earlier state. Now Iroh actually has more room to grow than Zuko. What is the point of having Iroh here at all?

    I’m thankful for your perspective of Iroh!!! No one else has seemed to mention any critique of his portrayal, while I was thrown off. For me, Iroh felt too on-the-nose and they made it very obvious that iroh was on the good side. In the original, iroh was more mysterious and nuanced until his view became more obvious in season 2. It’s similar to how they won’t make zuko fully a villain. Aang saying “you couldn’t have always been this way” feels out of place, since zuko hasn’t earned that perspective from Aang. And I can’t fathom why they’d make iroh kill zhao instead the perfect poetic justice of the ocean spirit killing zhao for murdering the moon.

    I (somehow) managed to watch up to that episode in the live action, and what I noticed was that it looks like they initially DID try to keep the emotionlessness as part of the lore. Aang’s line delivery while he talks (for a good portion of the scenes) with Koh are deliberately monotone and his face is expressionless. That leads me to think they shot the scenes planning to stick to the original idea, but then changed it later and just never re-shot those moments. Which is a shame because you can tell the potential it had and how it wanted to hold true to the OG. (Like I said, watch that interaction again and you’ll notice that it’s only at the end where Aang starts to get expressive.)

    First of, thanks for watching! Here's a few things I would like to add after finishing the video! 1. I saw some stuff about Ian Ousley on twitter, I'm not an expert, I can't speak out on behalf of anyone else so keep any comments civilised. 2. It's okay if you don't agree with me, these are just my thoughts and opinions and its okay to think differently! 3. I forgot to make this clear in the video itself but it's okay for an adaptation to change things from the original if it serves a purpose, but if your changes make the overall narrative worse I believe its fair to call it out. 4. If I pronounce any names weird I blame that I'm swedish...

    I think you spoke a lot but didn’t say anything… the production quality of the video was great but you simply presented a categorization index. You didn’t present any unique anecdotes or opinions, or analysis of a certain method or compared what works better or how it works… etc. There wasn’t any substance in the video
