600 years on the bottom and still in recognisable shape. Gotta love the Baltic for that. Long ago I was involved with the Society for Creative Anachronism, and adopted the persona of a 14th century Hanseatic league sailor. Always wondered what it would be like to sail a cog. The Hanseatic League traded all over the Baltic and into the North Sea and European coasts. Nice to see a new one built. I wonder how well she sailed and how close to the wind she'd be able to get.

You need a furnace made of soil (mud), bunch of coal, iron ore, fire setting in the furnace, air blower and there you can melt the iron when the temperature in the furnace gets 1600 Celsius. Am I close?

in the post-apocalptic future there will be no shortage of iron or other metal - just salvage - but smelting will still be needed for repairs and new parts; fascinating to see how much work the pre-industrial age was for people - we take it for granted all the benefits of machines now - look at this is a sober reminder of the effort involved - also shows how manufacturing was a comunity event (something our society seems to have lost along the way)

if you listen just to the rhythm and flow of the guy talking while hes scooping up the baked ore, he sounds Scottish. Mix that rhythm and old english and you get scottish I guess. They were mostly vikings anyway, right.
