New-York Historical Society

For more than 200 years, the New-York Historical Society has been preserving and sharing the history of New York and the nation. We are home to the city’s first museum, one of the country’s premier independent research libraries, the DiMenna Children’s History Museum, and the Center for Women’s History.

Our groundbreaking exhibitions delve into the past, exploring the rich political, cultural, and social history of the United States. Our collections comprise more than 1.6 million objects and artworks, and our robust program series features renowned guests connecting historical and contemporary issues, in addition to popular and classic films.

Our expansive education programs provide dynamic experiences and curriculum resources-like the Women and the American Story website-for more than 200,000 New York school children every year, plus professional development and training for teachers.

Not a fan of tj. He is famous for saying all people are people while engaging in every crime imaginable against people who never did anything against him. He ran a terrorist work camp they called a plantation. He is described as a planter, but never engaged in a single full day of getting his own hands dirty. And then there is the rape. The idea that a 13 year old slave girl wants to have sex with a man 30 years older than her is ridiculous, but people want to portray it as a romance. Yes, despite the age difference, despite the fact that you terrorize my family and everyone that looks like me I want to have sex with you...are you insane? How about this as an idea. Sally Hemmings knew she was considered attractive and knew the ONLY way she would escape a life of being raped by a long line of white children and men was to submit to being raped by one for life. Being married to a black man meant nothing to whites who wanted to rape her. At the same time, about 5% of the north were abolitionists and lived the idea that TJ gave lip service to...and they were despised for it. Jefferson was no hero.

They're trying to make him seem funny when he's a dangerous guy. He's not funny, but a desperate menace who, frankly is a menace to civil society. He's a sadist who sat, enthralled with his "creation", the bloody, reprehensible insurrection, with hopes he could cause enough pain agony and distress to intimidate another term. He must be exposed. He must be indicted liquidated and sentenced for his lifetime in the gold plated guilted lap of luxury. He is a phoney selfish lucky sob whose been thrust into the spotlight by a political party who has lost it's way. This is already a tragedy.😪💙 Vote blue, please, to save our Democracy. 🙏🙏

Mr. Doctorow, your book touched me & yet surprised me with the details. After serving and not to mention Sarius. The long head was in proportion to the site of the size of the man, but intensifying of his features, so that there was a sort of ugly beauty to him, with his wide mouth, deeply lined at the corners, a prominent nose, long ears, and eyes that seemed any moment about to disappear under his drooping eyelids. Satorius thought the President's physiognomy could suggest some sort of hereditary condition, a syndrome of overdeveloped extremities and rude features...It may have been shell shock but what wording you have a gift...Muchnick v. Thomson Corp. (In re Literary Works in Elec. Databases Copyright Litig.), 509 F.3d 136, 2007 U.S. App. LEXIS 27597

11:56 Benjamin Franklin DID invent bi-focal lenses, however, while Franklin's work was pivotal in advancing the understanding of electricity, the discovery and study of electrical phenomena date back to ancient times, with contributions from many scientists and inventors over the centuries. Franklin's experiments and theories were part of a broader scientific effort to understand and harness electrical energy.

Any presidential candidate whos intention is to put the "messiah" bug in voters ears by kicking-off his campaign with the subliminal public spectacle of descending down an escalator, as if from the heavens down to earth, is obviously a man with an agenda to create and then to lead a cult

Rubinstein mentions Chief Justice John Roberts and notes that he (Robert’s) studied history while at Harvard. As a student of American history you would think that Chief Justice Roberts would be appalled at the antics of justices Thomas and Alito. Apparently he isn’t or he would take some sort of action toward them. History is precedent in every regard and Robert’s is setting a terrible one lately.

I'm not sure Fred Trump was "self made". According to Mary Trump's book Fred Trump's father created the initial fortune from which Fred Trump got a hefty jump start. If I remember correctly from Mary Trump's book, Fred Trump inherited about $500,000 from his father which was a pretty nice fortune back then.

The book goes into granular detail on Donald Trump and his way of doing business. Had voters known this in 2016, many of the people who chose him because he woud "run the country the way he ran his "successful" business" wouldn't have voted for him. Now that it's coming out what a fraud he is, will they change their minds?

Pretty overt. Not the kinda thing you'd see now for sure.. but then he ended up being one of those presidents both sides liked, like LBJ, so I'm sure it didn't feel that weird later as campaigning became something a bit more tribal.
