    135 can be very jarring if you're not used to shooting telephotos. Got used to 135 shooting Fuji with the 90F2, use 70-200's often enough for event work and I'm a natural introvert so being further from a person doesn't bother me too much. Space permitting I can get work done on a 300mm (just would never do an entire shoot with this).

  • @MartinWongPhoto

    I think the 135mm would be great for event photography, really capture the person from afar, especially useful if they are on stage

    @@MartinWongPhoto Yup I have used the Sony 135GM for these kinds of things when I had it. I feel like I'd have the Plena already if I wasn't putting money into a Fuji GFX kit currently. 135 is great for when you want reach, but want something faster than a 70-200 2.8.

    why 85 at 1.8??? did you reduced the 135 to 85??? NO..so next time don't do this comparison...ahs no logic to shoot them at 1.8..and also the 85 1.2 in crop mode is 135 in 1,8 in ff ...so shoot the 85mm at 1.2

    This entire test seemed a bit weird starting with shooting one lens wide open then the rest stopped down. I am watching and waiting for the comparison photos and critiques at the end of your photoshoot that never even happened... It doesn't help my decision about buying either of these lenses. I wish Nikon would make a Z mount 105mm 1.4 or 1.2 though because I know that is my preferred focal length to compress and blow out the background.

    1.8 on the 135 depth of field/bokeh is equivalent to 1.2 on the 85mm and 0.95 on the 50mm. You should have kept them at their widest aperture.

  • @MartinWongPhoto
    @MartinWongPhoto12 күн бұрын

    I can't go down to 0.95 on the 50mm since I don't have the Noct, so I would never able to get that comparison, might as well pick one aperture to show

  • @andikunar7183

    I don't understand why you would shoot with the 85 @ 1.8 to compare. A similar 85 DoF to 135/1.8 would be 1.2. If you DX-crop the 85/1.2 you get a 135/1.8-ish look (but not the Plena's look). I have had the 85/1.2 and the 135/1.8 for some time now, and to me the 135 has the better look for the same portrait-target. Even when you have to get farther away. OK, I shoot directed portraits and not street,... - so distance normally is not an issue for me. What you did not touch and what I like most about the Plena, is that the background looks more calm with its bokeh. But I'm not totally sure if buying a Plena is justified, if you have an 85/1.2 - its expensive/big/heavy. And you could just DX-crop shoot an 85/1.2 image, if I want a 135/1.8ish look. 19 MPix out of 45 is still enough, and the mirrorless-viewfinder even shows you the look there.. OK, I bought the Plena, so I keep it. But I still programmed my 85/1.2 button to switch to DX-crop, for when I leave the (big/heavy) 135 at home and want to shoot/compose a 135/1.8ish look.

  • @MartinWongPhoto

    Since I already have the 50mm, I would like to trade my 85mm for the 135mm

  • @andikunar7183
    @andikunar718312 күн бұрын

    @@MartinWongPhoto I think the 85 is more essential. You can get a 135/1.8 ish look with DX cropping a 85/1.2, but not the other way round. Except if you extremely care for the additional Plena look, or are very comfortable with 135, the Plena is more of a luxury-item next to the 85/1.2 workhorse. I use the Plena most of the time, but sometimes have to use the 85 because of space constraints. I don’t have the a 50/1.2, but a Voigtländer Nokton 50/1.0 (for my secondary body, a Zf), but 50 is to wide a look for my taste, I would like 58 better. And I don‘t have a 35, only the 40/2.0, but am thinking about the 35/1.4 (the 1.8S‘ of Nikon are to clinical in their look for my taste).

    I've tried so many of these gimmicky products and unfortunately the technology isn't there to make any of them worthwhile. The problem with thiese neck fans are 1) it only pushes wind around. If the air around your neck is very warm, this isn't going to be much cooler. 2) The coverage area is insufficient. What you want is your core temperature to cool down, not just the neck and head. A few years ago Sony made a product called the Reon pocket that you can tuck into a t-shirt specifically made for it. Again, too small to do anything meaningful but at least it pushes cool air out. Ember wave makes something that sits around your wrist that is actually very cool to the touch. The coolness from your wrist is suppose to trick your body into thinking its cool. Again it doesn't work. The best solution I've found so far is a cool vest that Formula 1 drivers wear. You stick it in the freezer and the gel inside melts over time. It's like having ice around your body except it doesn't melt instantly. There are still drawbacks. 1) Once it warms up, the vest is useless. You have to find a place to store it if your outside. 2) The vest itself isn't breathable, so moisture can build up underneath and that makes you naturally sweat more. Still, this is probably the best solution I've found for hot days and you need a portable cooling. Still wishing for something like a wearable indoor A/C to be created.

    I'm glad I wasn't the only person to take advantage of that code. I have to shoutout to the Redditor that let me know that Apple Pay was working when Nikon had seemingly disabled regular credit card payments on their site. This code was actually active for quite a while before the Z6III released, but in total I picked up the Z6III, 180-600, 70-180, and 105MC using that code and saved a ton of money. I had almost picked up the Z8 over the Z6III because you could get one refurbished for about $2,600 before taxes which is an absurd price for such a great camera, I just couldn't justify spending even more than I already had.

We don't go around bashing anyone, we just enjoy our great gear which now has stellar AF on top of the great color science it already had, amazing lenses and great image and video quality. We are too happy to look over the fence to see if anybody's garden is better than ours lol. Is everything perfect? No, but nothing is and if they ever make anything "perfect" it will probably be A LOT of money. Enjoy shooting guys, make art, and forget these DUMB and useless camera wars and comparisons :) cheers!
