  This is a flight popular with passengers, so it is very unlikely that it was completely empty. However, it is just a three-hour flight, and the fuel onboard is not that much. In addition, the very strong head wind does help this short takeoff happen.

  We landed in Dubbo in mid summer and had a really bumpy flight as we flew down through the clouds. It was quite exciting. When the wheels touched the tarmac the whole plane erupted in cheers. We lived in Dubbo for about 10 years. Great place to live but very hot in summer and quite cool in winter. And the zoo is amazing. Mike in Oz

  I'll never understand why tail draggers don't use a small backup camera, mounted under the cowling, facing forward with a small screen in the cockpit. They could use a toggle switch to turn it on when on the ground. Any thoughts?

  I found one of these in a badly crashed condition very near Lake #5 just outside the Desolation Wilderness boundary back in '73. This is in the Sierras in Northern Calif. A sad ending for this bird sorry to say.

  To me, the engineering of the folding wings is amazing. About 75 feet, 3/4 length of a basketball court. There are few carrier borne aircraft in the world and no other country besides the U.S. has planes with folding wings.
