    One very little know fact is that there were a lot of Greek philosophers that hated the art of poetry since they reviled it for the same reasons why most people love it for. Some like Plato even when as far as to call poets charlatans or even demonically possessed . Also in some Islamic cultures there is an associations with poetry and the possession by entities called djinn . And I think it was Pythagoras that first applied mathematics to the art of music which ultimately lead to some kind of myth about how he invented music it self . And I think the word cinema is actually Greek in origin meaning moving picture.

    One theory I heard was that akhenaten push towards his form of monotheism might have just been one big political ploy to reduce the power of the priesthood of amun. But I think he probably genuinely believed in this new faith he founded considering how far he went to erase all other aspects of religion in Egypt. And it was during the first dynasty is were we first saw subsidiary burial , were the Pharoah was entombed was some of his guards , slaves, wives and servants. But this tradition seems to have died out around the time of the third dynasty.And if my memory is serving me right Ra was said to originally been a minor deity in the pantheon until the rise of the fifth dynasty where his importance was elevated much high. And the fifth dynasty is so connected with Ra that they would famously build alot of temples dedicated to the sun and they would also . Reference Ra in their names to the point that they were called the sun king dynasty.

    Egypt and Nubia also had a very love hate relationship, with one minute they are Waring and fighting . Then the next minute they are exchanging culture and trading peacefully. And fun fact esarhaddon was famously obsessed with astrology/divination and he basically had a whole branch of his government dedicated just to divining the future. But some of the diviners didn't liked him very much and allegedly kept some of the revealed signs away from him. And taharqa was said to be a key ally of the Israelites when they were fighting off an invading enemy force.

    the phoenicians had a syllabet, with 22 sympols, they represent only the first consonant of the syllable...in greece they used much earlier a syllabet, called Linear B, that had 90 symbols, represented all their vowels, all their syllables starting with a consonant and followed by different vowels, and all their double consonants..Myceneans deities were earlier than those of Phoenicians, there are arhaeological inscriptions verifying it

    Am not sure on this point but from what I have learned (if my memory is serving me right) one of the reasons why the purple products that made were so expensive was because it . Took either a thousands or a hundred thousand murachs to make enough dye to color their clothing. And Hercules is actually the roman name of the Greek demi god.

    Hi Brandon, I have seen different quantities mentioned, even 25000. This is o quote from the internet: David Jacoby remarks that "twelve thousand snails of Murex brandaris yield no more than 1.4 g of pure dye, enough to colour only the trim of a single garment." It is a crazy amount that justifies a high price.

    I have a few questions here because as a lover of Greek mythology I never heard any account where artemis was the twin of or helped to deliver Athena since, Athena was supposed to have been born fully grown and in battle armour from Zeus's head after he had hephaestus hit him in the head with an axe to stop his headache. What I have learned was that Artemis helped to deliver her twin brother Appollo after she was born first/rapidly grown up, and after seeing the blood and pain of her mother she swore to be a virgin. I don't know of any account of Artemis being the patron of women in labor since according the myth that was supposed to be the domain of Hera's and Zeus's daughter Eileithyia . Who according to myth Was ordered by hera to cruelly seal Leto's womb so she couldn't birth Artemis and Appollo as a way to spite Zeus. Though I have learned that Artemis was said to be the protector of young children and this was demonstrated in a myth were a young boy accidentally saw here bathing in the wilderness and . Normally she would have killed any male that even accidentally saw her bathing like the story of that hunter she turned into a dear before making him get eaten by his own hunting dogs . but she decided to turn the boy into a female and make her apart of her hunting group. Anyway sorry about how long this insane tirade was and I really hope I didn't come of as pretentious or disrespectful 😅.

    Fun fact many of the Greek/roman statues that we see were originally painted in a variety of bright colors and were even at times dressed in fine clothing or furs. Though for some reason the discovery of the statues being painted had invoked intense anger in some crazies of the ethnic kind for some unknown reason ?. Oh yes and it's a good thing you brought up the raise of Christianity in Rome because there was a period of fanatical Christians going around and smashing Greek/Roman statues , because they had became convinced that demonic entities were living in them . But luckily there were sane and wiser Christians that did their best to put a stop to it.

    There also is two more early pyramids one called the red pyramid and the other called the bent pyramid . But Great video though it felt a little rushed towards the second half , but any way there is alot I would like to add but I'll try to keep it short. In regards to the pyramids grand scale/ mathematical info there has been sooooo many people who have become infatuated with that part to the point that an entire pseudoscience has been created and it's called pyramidology . They view the pyramids from a religious , mystical or numerological perspective, with claims ranging from aliens built it or it being an ancient powerplant or even it was built by Satan etc . And for a long time until the Rosetta Stone was recovered during the Napoleonic wars the primary source of info on ancient Egypt was manetho history of Egypt written in around the 3rd century BC long after much of Egypt's time line has come and gone . Also it is said that in the prime youth of the pyramids they were coated in a layer of white lime stone and the great pyramids was supposed to have had a golden capstone that disappeared over the centuries . And I have also learned that in some cases if a ruler was very hated by Egyptian society they would not only scratch out there names on monuments but even go as far as to destroy the Ka statues so that they destroyed them in the afterlife. And fun fact Ra the sun god was moved up and upgraded in the pantheon from a minor deity to a major one around the time of the fifth dynasty in the old kingdom , and dynasty 5 is also called the sun king dynasty plus the first officially recorded labor strike happened during the late new kingdom era under the reign of Ramses the 3rd with a sit in at the temple of amun (if my memory serves me right) and loud protests with people shouting out demands and everything. Anyway sorry for the crazy nerd tirade on history 😅 . Oh and am not sure on this one but I think the word pyramid is of Greek origin and so is the word for empty tomb we call the cenotaph with ceno meaning epty and taph meaning tomb.

    What about the theogony which tells us not only of the gods genealogy of the gods but also gives us the story of how Zeus rose to become the kings of the gods. Also there is cave in Crete called the Diktaean Cave and was said by Hesiod to be the place where Rhea the mother of Zeus gave birth to him/where he was raised . And am glad you brought up Atlantis because to this day you still have people who actually believe that it was real or that the government is hiding it, and they come up with some insane explanations as to how it fell, why and where it was located and what it was like. Yet when you go to the source you find that these pseudo historians don't know anything about what Plato was actually trying to say, they just use imaginative thinking's/adhoc rationalizations to give the apperance of real potential history eg. They claim when the younger dryas happened it destroyed Atlantis and that explained the flood that wiped them out and don't even get me started on the chariots of the gods crowd and their foolishness. Oh and fun fact it was actually a civil war era politician by the name of Ignatius L. Donnelly who is considered the father of pseudo history who was the one to fist popularize Atlantis being real.

    When I saw radical religious lunatics like Isis destroying ancient artifacts from history that has stood for thousands of years it makes my heart bleed and ocean of bloody tears . To know that a religion can warp a mind sooooo badly that you will do humanity a disfavour and destroy aspects of its history all in the name of a coupling mechanism based is mythology .And this isn't the first time some thing like this has happened , during the first millennium ad there were reports of radical Christians going around and smashing Greek and Roman statues. All because they thought demonic beings were living in them , but more sane religious leaders calmed them down before it went too far. Even know there are reports of religious radicals who do things like encourage people to attack statues of mythical creatures or attack artifacts from Egypt .

    Another dark side to this is the fact that despite Isis claiming to be doing this based on religion (mythology if you ask me). They have no problem selling these very same artifacts on the black market for vast sums of cash. And Waring religious groups were also responsible for the recent destruction of the ancient tombs of Timbuktu in 2012 , one of the oldest and most important cities in pre-colonial Africa . And when said religious group was asked why they did this they went on an insane tirade about how they think people will worship tombs and how tourism encourages debauchery. But apologies for my incoherent rant .

    Epicurus and his philosophy/communal society was said to be the main inspiration behind karl Marx coming up with communism, Marx actually wrote a paper on Epicurus . And communism is even said to be an upgraded but highly corrupted version of the happiness centered philosophy of Epicurus. Then you have the fact that the epicureans were basically the first people to start living in communes for happiness and they got so popular that you had around 400000 people living in them from Greece to places as far as Palestine . But they came to an end in about the 5 AD with the rise of the Christian church but much of the epicureans communes structures were said to be remodels as monasteries . Some say that these monasteries are just epicurean communes but with a Christian flavor and the epicureans also believed in the idea of an infinite universe.

  • @culturepassport
    @culturepassport6 ай бұрын

    Hey Brandon, that's a fascinating observation! It's indeed intriguing to see the historical connections between Epicurean philosophy and the development of communal living, as well as its influence on later ideologies like communism. The idea of happiness as a central pursuit and communal living for that purpose is a compelling link between Epicurus and Marx's ideologies. The transition from Epicurean communes to the adaptation of their structures into monasteries is an interesting historical evolution, suggesting the enduring impact of these communal ideas even after the decline of the Epicurean communities. The incorporation of Epicurean elements with a Christian flavor in the monasteries adds another layer to this historical narrative. The concept of an infinite universe is yet another intriguing parallel. Thanks for sharing this historical perspective!
