Adventures in owning a Samoyed. Dogs who are difficult to train and groom.
Samoyed training tips are topics of many of our videos, since Samoyeds are stubborn, highly intelligent dogs who are masters of chewing and destroying everything. They believe they know more than their owners and choose to do what they want to do. Yeti and his Mom have good tips to keep you from pulling out all of your hair.

I love how yeti is talking in the background giving his review about the product.
Yeti is quite expressive off KZread. He has been known to talk sometimes, from within our videos.
My Samoyed is shedding. 🤯🤯🤯 Help to find help. Thank you!!!
All Sammies shed. You cannot stop it.
I love Samoyed puppy's because of it's fluffiness and cuteness . Very good 👍😊 advice❤❤
They are SO much more than simply being cute and fluffy. The are extremely energetic, have giant personalities, demanding dogs, need TONS of exercise, but they quickly become your best friend.
I love 💕 it.Sooo 🥺 cute.Thank you 🎉😂❤
Thank you!
My samoyed puppy only seems to like pooping in his crate. If I leave it closed, he goes on the floor instead of on his puppy pads. 🙈 Literally been taking him on walks for a week now and he hasn't done anything while walking. I'll leave him to go put stuff away and bam. Goes on the floor. 🤦♀️ If I wait with him in the garden after a walk he'll just lay there and try eat grass or mud. Can count on one hand how many times he's done something in the garden. If I catch him mid-accident and take him outside... he'll just hold it.
Give your Sammy a few months of consistency for them to learn how and where to go potty. Always use a positive voice and immediately give them treats the moment they go, along with bunches of praise.
@YetisPlace - Been trying it. 😅 Hopefully he gets there. He looked kind of confused when I was saying, "Good boy going potty!" When he did actually go those rare times. 🙈 He must think I'm crazy. 😅 He'll sniff around a lot on walks but then he doesn't do anything, I'm sure he holds it until we're back home. 🙈 He's saving up that revenge pee for when I leave him to go to the bathroom. 😂
I love this video can’t help but say respectfully it’s Sam-oy-ed not sammyed
Thank you for peppering a compliment in amongst you staying I’m pronouncing it incorrectly. I actually am pronouncing the breed’s name correctly. Westminster Dog Show, The National Dog Show, and all professional Samoyed breeders in the USA, all pronounce the breed’s name the exact same way I do. I learned the correct pronunciation when I got my first Sammy 21 years ago.
I appreciate your kindness in your comment. The name Samoyed, pronounced as Sammy-Ed, was first pronounced that way, by John Kilburn Scott, when he brought the breed to Antarctica.
Ur channel influenced me to get a Sammy 🙏🏽
Awe!
Hello, I have a problem. After buying a Samoyed, he only pees and poops inside the house. It doesn't matter if we take him for a walk after meals or walk for 3 hours, or if we run and play with him. We even tried giving him more water, but he still refuses to do his business outside. Additionally, when we are outside, he eats every piece of weed he finds and is interested in every stone. He puts everything in his mouth and swallows it. I really don't know what I should do because nothing seems to work. Of course, as soon as we get back home, he takes care of his business right away. He is 11weeks now.
A Samoyed, or any other puppy, takes months to train. You need to be prepared for accidents spanning around 7+ months, after getting him. Your puppy isn’t delaying your walks by eating grass. He’s exploring his outdoors, which is what a Sammy needs to do.
11 weeks old, is still a young baby. Give him time, with gentle encouragement.
@@YetisPlacethank you❤
The easiets solution is to not own any dogs. Dogs aren't indoor pets. They are an invasive species and opportunistic mutated scavengers. They are literally designed to just roam around outdoors and eat rotten cadavers.
How do I "yip" with a bass voice? :D
Every yip needs multiple tones.
In conclusion, how does Felix Samoyed wiggle the ears syncing music.
I own Yeti.
Hi.. So last week I bought a samoyed puppy,,its my first time having a dog on my own like I used to have a dog when I was just a kid.. and now it's hard for me to train him,,I don't know why but he's not that obedient.,ughh.. I have so many questions!! Please anyone can tell me step by step how to train my puppy, and btw he's only 5weeks old
Your puppy is much too young at 5 weeks. In the USA, puppies aren’t allowed to go home with their owners until 8-12 weeks of age. At 5 weeks old, they’re still much too young. A Samoyed takes a long time to potty train, a long time to train. I’m talking months. You need to think in a Samoyed’s manner of thinking in training. Don’t train them the way humans expect them to be trained. Sammies were bred to be reindeer herders and heavy sled pullers. They’re independent, very intelligent dogs, who don’t want to listen to human commands. You would not want to train him in sled pulling, nor reindeer herding until he’s 2. His bones continue to grow and continue to fuse together until they’re 2 years old. Start by training him his name. Work on very simple commands. Your puppy is dangerously too young to be separated from his mother. Give him time and expect your training to take a number of months to potty train, and to train other commands.
What if you were to bathe it regularly as a puppy (so itd be used to bathing), and comb it each time youd start to feel allergic, or after every run? I have cats at home so im more used to fur now asi would be without being exposed to it.
A Sammy’s fur is so thick and they’re not meant to bathe too often. It would dry their skin out too much. You cannot cause a dog with a long, thick, double coat, with an extremely lifestyle, to not have allergens. They are not a breed meant for those who are allergic.
Love his little sneezes. Watched a few of your grooming videos. I FINALLLLLLY broke down and did the right thing. Bought some CC brushes. Such a tough decision of which sizes, as they are expensive. Ended up getting the 27 pin brush, the Big K slicker, and the Little G for the under arms and legs. My girl isn't as big as Yeti, so I hope I like the sizes.
If her coat is thicker, the Big G slicker works better. The Big K has fewer tines, but they work in a similar way. Glad you bought the CC Big K. It is a great slicker. The price point speaks to the quality. They’re exceptionally well made and have rounded pin heads, making it more comfortable for your dog.
@@YetisPlace Yes, she is spayed, so her coat is incredibly thick. Now I see that I should have gotten a Big G instead of the Big K. It seems like the Little g that I got goes through her thick fur better. So at least I do have that. I'm really loving that pin brush though, that's amazing!! It's been very nice to brush out my Yakutian Laika and my Sammy. I am very happy that I finally got these brushes. ☺️
My arms got tired just watching you brush ! LOL ! I'm in my 60th year of brushing Sammies. My BFFs !
They are the greatest breed. WOW, 60 years is some time!
It’s called a Samoyed not a sammy head
Professional breeders, all dog shows in the USA, the man who brought them to Antarctica and a book written over 50 years ago has stated that the breed is pronounced as Sammy-Ed.
My Samoyed rarely barks. She howls when she wants something.
That's incredible you were able to find the rare Sammy that doesn't bark too much.
they arent aggresive unless you stick their hands in their mouth like my sister who claims their biting her
Even then they don’t bite. They might gently put their teeth on your hand or arm, but it’s with zero pressure.
Im picking up my fur baby today!
Woo hoo!!!
I am from india which dog is best for me please suggest me . samoyed and malamute I am also a first time owner.
Neither breed is good for a first time dog owner. Both Samoyeds and Malamutes are extremely intelligent dogs, which means they're often seen as stubborn, difficult to work with and they're determined to do what they want to do. They need an owner who understands how to work with their breeds and is able to understand their underlying psychology. Both breeds are good for owners who've already owned dogs before. It takes a lot of knowledge to know how to work with these seemingly stubborn breeds. As far as being in India, if your temps are very hot and humid, without air conditioning, it would not be a good idea to have these dogs. They were bred to work in arctic temperatures. The Samoyed originated in Siberia. The Malamute is call the Alaskan Malamute, as they're from Alaska, which is close to the northern arctic. Neither breed should be shaved, as it's dangerous for their body temperatures. They're also extremely active breeds, who require a LOT of activity. Without activity, they choose their own, in the form of destroying your house. I know both breeds are insanely beautiful. I encourage you to look at everything I stated.
Thanks a lot 😊
Mam one more question are Alaskan malamute aggressive in nature
Sammies are the sweetest, most gentle of all breeds. Malamutes can be a bit more aggressive.
Eskies are easy...I have had mine for 4 years and is on point for guarding the house. After 5 minutes, the Eskie is fine with everyone..Each dog is different...
Awesome
I ate half of the box I can’t stop they are so good
They weren’t in a box.
Adorable!!
Thank you
He looks like it's miserably hot.
Hot air rises. It’s very cool where he lays. I laid down beside him and couldn’t feel the fireplace. He’s completely fine down there. He likes watching the flames. They’re hypnotizing.
My puppy wants to only lay outside in 24 degree weather.
Cold and Sammies go together like Oreos and milk.
My sammy prefers to lie where I keep a window cracked open. The cats prefer being near the fireplace…
Surprisingly, Quimby doesn’t feel the heat where he lays. It’s nice and cool there, as I laid down beside him and cuddled with him.
@@YetisPlace That insulating layer of hair they have really works well for them. Sheba will lie on the deck in the sun in the summer which seems so contradictory. But she really comes to life this time of year in the northeast. Bolts around the yard in the snow and loves eating snowballs and chunks of ice. She is the sixth dog in my life and my first sammy. This breed is amazingly athletic, enthusiastic and intelligent. She actually moves her jaw and modulates her voice with expression to try to talk like humans do. She is *always* with her humans, except when she spots a squirrel or bunny 🙂. She is always part of the crowd when friends and family are around. So glad we discovered her when she was a puppy. Yes, I go through vacuum bags like crazy and sometimes have to pull a hair out of my coffee cup, but it is so worth it. What a joy.
so cozy!
Yes, Quimby loves being right by the fireplace. I laid down by him. You couldn’t feel the heat from it. Quimby’s hypnotized by the flames. It helps calm him.

Hello, thanks for your video. I was needing lots of help with my shih tzu and which slicker brushes to buy. I think I will give the 1all number ones a try. Do you have any other ones that compare to the Chris ones that are in the middle price range of the all number ones and the Chris. Thanks so much for your help
#1 All Systems brushes are very good brushes that I also recommend, that are super affordable. They have much shorter length tines than Chris Christensen brushes, but they have rounded heads too and come in various smaller sizes, which would be helpful for your little dog.
@@YetisPlace hi, yeah I like the Chris brushes but I just don’t see spending that kind of money on a brush for home use. I was trying to find some in the 30 dollar range but had no luck. The number ones are not cheap made are they? I was trying to find a middle ground ones but can’t seem to find that right video of what info I was hunting for except for yours I hope you do more on comparing dog grooming products it’s very helpful. Thanks for your help.
If you click below my video, it’ll open up the products I recommend, under Grooming Tools. It has both Chris Christensen AND #1 All Systems brushes. When the box opens for you, scroll down to where you can see #1 All Systems brushes. They are around $12 to mid $20. They also have tines that are specifically rounded to not cut your dog. They are high quality made, but without a high price. You would go through about 3-4 or more of the cheaply made brushes, for just buying 1 Chris Christensen brush. So, keep that in mind.
Please get on my email list, as I’m currently creating a paid course on double-coated dog grooming. You can get on my list here: yetisplace.dog/groominglead
*Can you please make a video reacting to Wooyoo of MochaMilk. I’m curious to know what you think of her. She reminded me of the dog that you always speak so highly of that has sadly passed away. Wooyoo of MochaMilk is super smart and kind and a reaction video of you commenting your opinion on her would be so interesting and fun to watch.* 🐻❄️ 👀
If reaction videos were in my direct niche, I would do that. Unfortunately, they aren’t within my niche.
👍⚾️🐶
Thank you!
Our Samoyed is almost 7 months and he’s SO vocal haha I know this is a vocal breed but wowww
Welcome to life with a Samoyed. They’ll begin awhoo’ing at you, changing their vocal tones to place what they’re saying into sentences. They’ll even begin showing you why they’re barking, by herding you toward what they want, then talking.
pls can you tell me what is that oval Big brush thing you are using where can I get it from the big large oval black thing
It’s called a shedding blade. This was an old video and since, I’ve made a lot of upgrades to better grooming tools. The shedding blade would break Yeti’s coat and would damage it. I’ve since learned to not use it and instead use tools that take good care of his coat. Here’s the link for the new, improved tools that I use. Yeti and I both love them. They’re easy to use and do the work for you, vs the other way around. kit.co/yetisplace/grooming-tools
HI, my Samoyed still smells even after a groom, I am not sure why, do you know if this is normal or any products to eliminate this please. thank you
You can create a mix of a nice smelling, white colored, either dog or human conditioner. Fill a spray bottle with 2 oz of the conditioner, with the rest water. Shake it and spray it on your dog while grooming. It’ll help the odor. If it doesn’t, I would ask your vet why your dog smells. Could be an infection somewhere that you cannot see. I am in the process of creating a course on double-coated dog grooming. Yeti and I have an email list of ideas and questions answered. You would also receive updates on our upcoming course. Yeti and I would like you to join our email list at yetisplace.dog/stopbarking.
thank you soo much I have just joined. may I ask how much does Yeti weigh, my 20 month male samoyed weighs 35kg @@YetisPlace
@snowbearsamoyed7650 if your name is Lily, I’m so sorry my automated system had sent you over one hundred emails. Normally you’d only receive one email per sequence. I do hope I’ve figured out why. I apologize if it had been you who received a whole bunch of emails.
@snowbearsamoyed7650 Yeti weighs 77 pounds. Unsure what it is in kilograms. He’s stocky.
that is the same as my 18 month Samoyed, Snowbear, he weights 35.6kg which is 78 pounds@@YetisPlace
You mentioned Yeti pulling you on a sled/rollerblades. Do you have any advise where I could look to find out how to do that?
I would look for a book on dog sledding.
@@YetisPlace That's a great idea thanks!
Hi, I recently adopted a 2yr old Eskie girl named Aura. True to that breed, she's supposed to have a dense, DOUBLE coat by now but all she seems to have is that her outer guard hair and I can see right through to her pink skin! She's my 3rd Eskie and I recall they had nice, thick double coats.
I’m sorry to hear about your American Eskimo. I feel that she had either undergone stripping of her inner coat, or shaving it all off. When you shave a dog you shouldn’t shave, it leads to rough growth, the undercoat doesn’t grow back as it should. That happens if a groomer isn’t properly trained. I’m really sorry to hear this and do hope her inner coat can grow back.
My Samoyed loves his crate I didn’t need no treats there not dumb dogs the tone of your voice is enough but try not to shout at them as there very sensitive dogs there’s no need bribes why spoil a dog they turn into spoilt brats and they will only listen when you’ve got food for them as I said before there clever dogs and they will play you , a tired pup is a good pup simple but there extremely naughty dogs when bored, lots of exercise is a must there hard work but well worth it I love my dog
Sammies sure are great dogs. Some like crates, others might not. Yeti liked his crate when he was young. Now that he’s been out of the crate for a number of years, he refuses to go back inside. He knows he’s a good boy and handles himself well. Many people have a dog who isn’t as good with crates. This video is to help them. Glad to hear you’ve never experienced problems with your’s.
I gerw up an outdoor kid in the country. Our Samoyeds were a great outdoor dog. I suppose your mileage may vary.
They do LOVE the country!!!
Samoyeds do not shed, they provide free cashmere ;)
Love your answer!!! Yes, they truly do provide free cashmere!
@@YetisPlace breaks my heart I never got anything made from the wool we saved from our Sammies.
I’m sorry.
@@YetisPlace no need, but thank you. I mentioned the lament so others will have better forethought. Cheers!
My dream is to adopt a samoyed, but I'm unsure because I have 3 cats and I'm a kinda scared of their predatory instinct. I have had Golden Retrievers in the past but I never had a Samoyed... If you have advice to help me to integrate a Samoyed into a cat family, or experiences that you want to share with me, I will be very grateful. 🙏🏻❤ Samoyeds are fluffy clouds, with beautiful and energetic personalities that I love and I really would like to have the experience of owning one
Yes, a Sammy is extremely predatory. However, provided you show the Sammy your love for your cat and teach them to love them to love same way, a Sam will do fine with cats. How to teach them to love a cat, is by showing them. Cuddle with your cat. Give your cats the exact same type of love you give your Sam. Always supervise your Sam while around your cats, until your Sam begins to understand your cats belong in your house. Once they learn that, cats and Sams will be fine.
@@YetisPlace Many thanks for your answer, it made me feel safe and confident about Sammys <3 thanks a lot!!!
You’re welcome!
umm her dog is on the couch noooooo
Yeti is on the couch behind me, laying on his pet cover, so he can be on camera too.
My buddy will do everything we teach him! Everything but come, he doesn't like to come. He likes to be naughty by collapsing into the grass, belly up and just lay there.. waiting for Momma to come over and carry him like a baby back inside.
That’s funny!!!
Yeti: “mmmk, am ready” lolol
Yeti’s a really good boy. I am currently working on creating a course for all grooming needs of double coated dogs. If you haven’t yet joined my email list, please do so. It’s loaded with fun info for dog owners. I’ll also give updates on the course as it comes closer.

Dehydrated liver is the *best* treat hands down. Healthy, and dogs will do anything to get one
I’m sure they would
When our son was young we had 3 Sammys and those Sammy’s would not let this older a boy near him . This boy had a very bad reputation. They protected him . When it stormed ( tornadoes) he would go to the hall for safety. He would lay in the hall and the dogs would surround him . We were there too. They were great and sooo loving. I have a rescue husky now. We have been very blessed with all our recurve fur babies. They are real members of the family.
I’m so glad you’ve been blessed by so many wonderful dogs. Sammies truly are amazing family members.
This would be good for my Samoyed … His own tent inside my big family tent during sleeping time so he doesn’t roam around and do something crazy 😂 Would be nice if it had more vents during summer camping.
It is actually nice and cool inside. Plenty of vents with good airflow.
My dog is a husky. Long story short she keeps chewing up my couch cushion ,im going to try the aluminum foil .thanks for your video hope it works .
You are so welcome!
Sounds perfect i will try to find an e-collar for the barking bcuz i have a dog that loves to talk and the e-collar does amazing and i will be using him/her as a ESA
You don’t want to punish your dog for barking, which is what an e-collar would do. Instead, I would try to understand why your dog is barking. Our dogs bark to tell us specific things. Playtime, potty, more food/water, pet me, walks, excitement, etc. It’s our job to understand their cues, get them to focus on us. The moment they stop barking, give them what they’re asking. They learn so much faster that way.
as a japanese spitz owner i can confirm they are definitely pomeranians not japanese spitz but still cute tho
Thank you
The Japanese Spitz is an offspring of a German Spitz. I have an American Spitz also known as Eskimo dog. Pomeranians is it offshoot from a spitz.
I did the research before I left this comment. I have a 25 lb American spits known as an Eskimo dog. His heritage is German.
