    Just found a sparrow and he’s in a box with holes in it any advice? He doesn’t seem to walk unless I put my hand near him, and he seems to be breathing heavily.

    Very helpful video. I was doing maintenance on my tractor and found a nest near the radiator with 4 sparrows in it. I ran the tractor yesterday so I suspect the mother is long gone. They have their mouth open and are hungry. Looks like some egg and moist cat food is on the menu for them tonight.

    Help me please @mikeyfranz !! I found a baby sparrow in a trash can in my backyard it can only kind of hop around and fly very little distance and not high up. I have it in a mesh cat/rabbit cage for now. Been playing sparrow mommy feeding calls, to feed it but I really do not know if what I’m feeding it is okay. I have chickens and feed them dried black soldier fly larvae as treats, so I’ve been mashing those up and dipping in water to feed this baby. Is that alright? I heard giving them water too early can be detrimental and I do not want to kill this bird but if I leave it in the old it will be eaten by a snake or hawk or owl.

  • @mikeyfranz
    @mikeyfranz4 күн бұрын

    Yes, you heard correct about water being detrimental, baby birds tend to inhale it and they can drown, or get pneumonia. but if the food is just damp/wet, that's fine. I made a video explaining all of this which I think will help? Thank you for helping our feathered friends! kzread.info/dash/bejne/aJONj6-Oc7WzerQ.htmlsi=IoviiCnx_LlumqRZ

    Sometimes playing a video on your phone of other baby birds eating, will cause your bird to also open his mouth for you. Your bird will hear them chirping for food, and he will do the same.

    hi I found a blue tit fledgling on the ground I watched him for hours no parents seen even once and it was getting dark he was just sitting there and he was wet dragging his wings on the ground at first I was hesitant to pick him up and bring him inside because I didn't want to kill him but I don't know what I need to feed him any advise

    Totally unrelated to this video but I found another video of yours pretty informative and I had questions but wanted to make sure it would be seen on a new video rather than a 9 year old video. Today my neighbors dog was barking at 2 baby birds that fell near the fence no trees for a nest the parents wouldn’t come close because of the dog once the dog was gone the parents came and feed the babies but left and a storm started to come in today I put them in a box on the porch not sure what to do

  • @mikeyfranz
    @mikeyfranz4 күн бұрын

    Yes, that's a tough one. Removing the dog was a great start. As you see, the parent birds are still very involved, it's probably good you sheltered them for the storm, then if you can get them back outside to a safe place where the parents are, nature will help them all make it work, I hope.

    Hi, I found a juvenile that my dog tried to eat, tried to let him get the parents but they didn't showed up. I'm feeding and taking care just waiting a few weeks to the juvenille feathers go and be able to fly and eat.

  • @mikeyfranz
    @mikeyfranz4 күн бұрын

    Yes, they don't all make it. The death rate for birds is very high. I read a statistic that 70% of all nests don't last, due to weather, predators, landscapers, etc. I recently tried to save a baby grosbeak, when I found all his siblings and parent birds dead on the ground, but he would not open his mouth for food no matter what I tried, so it was a failure. I did document it, but I'm not sure how to present this video. Thinking about it...

    Hello… I found a little bird on the ground. I waited for its parents but they didn't show up. I took it inside and began to feed him. I don't know how long he was on its own, but he was hungry. I have been everyday outside searching for parents, but no luck. The baby is eating, and calls when hungry. He is active in the basket, but when we go outside, he just stay still. I am worry that he might be sick and I don't know. He has been with me for 5 days, and eats a lot. Any advice? I don't know what kind, but it looks similar to the one on the video.

  • @mikeyfranz
    @mikeyfranz4 күн бұрын

    Yes, I occasionally get a bird that refuses to eat as well, they say sometimes they refuse to eat if they are sick or injured, or dying, and I don't like to have to force feed a bird, they say not to do that. Not sure what can be done, I have also had this experience.

    URGENT: something killed both the male and female parent bluebirds in the nest outside my house. The nestlings are only 10 to 12 days old. I'm afraid that whatever killed the parents will kill the babies too. I called all local wildlife rehabilitators that I could find and everybody is at capacity or is not answering. These babies are in my hands or they are going to die. I have found enough information to develop my own strategy, but I would really appreciate any additional and specific or unique information to bluebirds if you could share.

    As if I’m not stressed enough with three dogs and a cat my husband bought up a baby bird that I have to feed. I don’t have the heart to put him back in the street. Seems like somebody found him and bought it to the front of the building so we don’t know where the nest is. I have a terrible headache now.

    Hello @mikeyfranz I find your video very helpful. I am currently trying raise a baby sparrow myself. I am in Connecticut and unfortunately have not been able to find a rehabber to take her. I am guessing she’s about 7-10 days old (with me for a week today) . I need a little help with what comes next. Is there any way you could help? If i could talk to you in details perhaps? It would be very kind of you.
