Welcome to Highway to Hoeftland - Adventures with Kristin and Mike.
-THE CAMPERS:
We like small, unique travel trailers. We previously had a 17 ft. fiberglass Casita. In 2021, we purchased a 5x10 Bend Teardrop Trailer. We also co-own a 1970's Komfort Trailer at Lake Merwin Camper's Hideaway. One day, we plan to buy a larger trailer when we embark on long road trips.
-THE BOAT:
We bought a boat! It's a 17 ft. Starcraft SVX 171 OB power boat. We're learning the ins and outs of being new boat owners; we'll occasionally share our boating adventures with you.
-WHERE WE GO:
Weekend trips around Oregon, Washington, and the beautiful Pacific Northwest. We'll travel the country one day, too!
-WHAT WE SHARE:
-Various camping experiences.
-Tour of our trailer.
-RV decorating ideas.
-Camping gear we use.
-Tips, how-to videos.
-Unique travel adventures.
-And more!
We promise there will be ridiculous mistakes made along the way. Thanks for watching!

A good dog makes everything better...esp camping!
Is there a camper company that makes a universal unit? Meaning camping, and the option of removing the camper unit and be used as a utility trailer to haul other stuff. Utility trailer kayak trailer lawn clippings debris etc. ??? just to have a trailer that could be used year round?
My motto is, "Little camper, little problems, big camper, big problems."
uneve audio level bad !!!!
Very cool! Congratulations!
I just picked up a Hiker camper. For my needs it’s perfect, lightweight w/ solar. I live in Washington but drove over to Utah to buy it. Now I’m going over the many options I want to install. Have you tried Skull Hollow CG near Terrebonne ( Or.) ? Really enjoyed my stay there. Happy travels !
Can You please share more about the Den Dry and exactly what mattress and size you got? We actually have the same camper and can't figure out what to get.
Have you seen the Darche 360 batwing 30second awning, when I get a teardrop that will be the must have accessory.
I really enjoy your videos. THank you.
I have run the camping life full circle. Started in tents as a child and through the years progressed to large towable RVs. My last shelter was a Kodiak Canvas truck tent. I should have my InTech Flyer Pursue within a few days, Lord willing. I do plan on several extended cross country trips and will definitely share my experiences. Thanks for all yuor videos and the advice that you have.
We recently downsized from a a 25’ Class C to a teardrop (and tent for the kids) and love the switch. We feel we are more connected with nature with the teardrop. ❤ 🌲
Really enjoyed this video. Thank you! We recently got our first teardrop trailer and LOVE it!!!
I have a tip for you. Don't use disposable dishes . Just get your own bowl and wash it. The world is already awash in garbage. Nice vid.
You seem to be taking alot of electrical things with you. A lot of things that you,re taking I would leave behind. On the other hand it,s all down to personal choice, over the yrs I,ve managed to whittle down quite a lot of things I consider surplus + un-needed. Roy,Haarlem, Holland.
Besides a shower tent, I have a Clam 6x6 shelter, I can put up, but easy as it is, it's a nuisance for short stays, especially if you have to put it away wet. I had an ARB awning, but that does not give any privacy. I sold it. Some places wont allow tents at all, but i avoid those. Even my shower tent with floor is a bummer sometimes. I'm in Oregon, and my last trip was at the coast. Sand in everything! My attached shower tent will be helpful on one side. I have a Kelty Backroads that is good, but it can be a problem under certain circumstances. I can use it at the side of trailer or over the galley.
First hand accounts are worth millions, good luck on collecting. Great review.
You are correct the Teardrop experience is invaluable however the cost per night is frightening especially if you calculate the total cost per night that you actually slept in the Teardrop over your period of ownership to date. Total cost per night must include: sales tax on the initial purchase (here in WA it is 10% =$1300) , depreciation, total ownership cost per mile of the tow vehicle: ($0.72 per mile per the AAA),license fees, monthly storage fees, repairs, replacements, and upgrades ( and the value of your time dealing with those issues)Example: a Propex heater is at least $1,000, 12v Fridge $750, 100AH lithium power station $700. These are all costs in addition to those you discussed in this video. When you add additional recreation vehicles (such as a new boat) you further dilute the available time to spend using the teardrop increasing the the total cost per night.
You guys ain't no sissies.
don't advertise such horrible food, please.
Looks like a great campsite! I love Camping by Water! Recently been checking out Teardrops. I agree on your least favorite... So does my wife. Your Teardrop looks like an awesome one. I tested one a little smaller in a recent video and I loved it! We had cold weather and Rain but we're comfortable. (40 Deg F.)
2018 we did a 2 months across America and upper Canada (home made teardrop) queen real mattress…amazing time.
I have a vistabule trailer camper. It has the windows for the views. I've been on a 5 month trip from the east coast to the western mountains. I was in no hurry to get home. And am planning another long trip out west next year. Plus I have done several 1 to 3 month trips in my vistabule.
I'd say ditch the Honda Ridgeline and teardrop.Get a real truck and then a truck camper. And then you'll be able to stand up at least inside..😅
I have the same Boat 1 year now and I love it I wish to have more time to use it.
I kind of went on the opposite side of this.I ended up buying a van and Converted it I have more room than a teardrop camper Plus I can pretty much camp anywhere I want . And if I can't I can always stealth camp!
another possible reason is access to the camper if you have reduced flexibility
I know how you feel about your teardrop. They're really easy to tow and park, better towing fuel mileage, etc... but I'm going to suggest that IF/when you might move "up" you try a 6' X 12' cargo trailer and convert it. The rear ramp door can serve as a deck, you may still have the galley in the back and if you leave the ramp down and use drapes/1/4" ply half wall/whatever you may have that great view of the lake from your bunk! and have standing room to get dressed, a spot for a small lo0... and you could call it a squaredrop. Heehaw. Safe travels to you! Thanks for your vid.
Nice video, thanks for sharing.
Dog so beautiful.
Organised camp grounds isn't camping! Teardrops are ment to go off road & camp in national forests or BLM land.
After having both a teardrop and tent trailer. Tent trailers heat up a lot more. The key to a teardrop is to close it up early when its still cool try not to get in it if don’t have to. Ventilation is a must in the heat at night.
BISON BURGERS AND BEER!?!?!? I LOVE YOU!!
I love the fact you're outdoors in your pajama bottoms! That's the life! ♥
Could you use a folding screen in front of your door for changing your clothes? Then move the screen to the side to use a porta potty? I've never seen a folding screen used for camping but it seems like it would be useful, for showering too.
Great video like always. We had a White Water Retro JR. we had under cabinet access from a small hatch below the cabinet door. We kept a few things I there however it was primarily for the 13 gallon water tank and pump. Our sink had a stove combo really to small for either but it worked still cooked on the colmen stove anyway. We had an insulted cabin and with 2 people with in 15 to 20 it was definitely warm even in below freezing temps no heater was required I still cracked my window at night. We had white and blue aluminum siding it always got dirty. Just wish I got the suspension lift I dragged the hitch a lot and a roof vent.
We got big spoon and little spoon pillow cases. Just wished it was different color then white, they got dirty fast
Fantastic video! Thank you for taking the time. I'm gonna buy the 6x12 with an empty cabin. I'm gonna DIY that. But I want a least a 74L Dometic Cooler. What do you recommend? In the Galley or the tongue storage, back of tow vehicle? You both rock. Appreciate you.
Hi there, thanks for your nice comments. We keep things pretty simple (so far) and just use an RTIC cooler that we usually keep in the back of our truck/tow vehicle.
Love your T-shirts dude
Haha, thanks!
You three are so adorable together
Thank you! Teddy makes us better. 🐶
Awesome video. I just talked with Bend Teardrops today. I'm planning on a 6x12, but I want to DIY the interior. Plan on a drop drown TV, cabinets, a fold out couch with removal table and one of those sealed dometic toilets for the really rainy days. I so want the windows you have over the portholes. Have it mostly designed in CAD. I grew up all around the West during summers in a Winnebago. Thanks to Grandma and Grandpa I have ideas. Dave at Bend was so accommodating and helpful about subtle little things I want. Thanks for your videos. You are motivating me. Can't wait to see more of your adventures.
We agree that Dave with Bend Teardrop is really nice! He was easy to work with. You'll have a great time with these campers.
Nice😊
Thanks!
Affordability? $13,000...ooff! That sounds very high. You can pick up a nice Jayco with all the amenities for that price no? Good points otherwise. Me and my gf managed to find a used 2018 Runaway RangeRunner for $5k. I think we got very lucky.
Wow, that's a great deal! We like the Runaway trailers from what we've seen on KZread. Congrats :)
Hello from northern Alberta Canada. I have some suggestions that work for me and my teardrop Invaluable is my pop up gazebo Fits like a glove over the hatch at the back and is screened or you can add outer walls if weather is inclement. My Acopower fridge/freezer. charges or runs with AC Solar or twelve volt and has a 12 hour battery back up built in. A company called Vevor sells the most cost effective gazebo but Clam company are the original makers. Happy camping. Love my teardrop
Thank you for the tips, Carol! Happy camping :)
What a nice campground. Id also recommend you put a cover over your A/C unit. It'll prevent bugs, debris and moisture from getting in.
Thank you. Yes, we usually have the AC covered when we're not using it. It might be a good idea to cover it even when camping. Thanks for watching, and thanks for your tip. :)
You want an RV but could only aford a Teardrop? Sounds like RV envy. Lots of people I know who havw RVs or big vans complain they they are stuck with only being able to use van/RV parks, they hate it and would love the freedom of the RTT or Teardrop.
They all have pros and cons. Seems like people switch their rigs quite often.
I LOVE camping with my 30' camper, but no my wife doesn't want to anymore, I tried car camping and that was great, right up to the point it rained for 2 days, then it was miserable, I missed having all the extra room when the weather is bad. What do you do during bad weather? Move to better weather or hunker down and just deal with it or... is the camper large enough you are okay?
Sorry for the late reply. This is a good question. Over time, for us, this camper isn't ideal in bad weather because the space is so small. However, lots of people in the teardrop community love it and find ways to add tents and covers, or they don't mind being cozy in the smaller space. Honestly, we're eventually going to get a little larger trailer, but not by much because we also value easy towabilty. There are pros and cons to all the camping setups. We hope you guys can find something that works well for both of you.
very nice video rugs from Brazil
Thank you!
Hi guys you can get your teardrop treated by the dealer they coat it with something that protects the paint decals due to fading and bugs I’m just having mine done!!
This is a good idea! Thank you!
