My nephew has a small farm and sells produce (mostly fruits and nuts) at a farmers market. He says that when there is hyperinflation and the price of a peach reaches $3 he will be taking payment in silver. But if you only have gold, he can give you change in silver. He has livestock (cattle, sheep and goats) and says that he can reduce his number of head if necessary so that he can reduce or even eliminate the feed that he has to buy. His land and house are paid off so he may have more flexibility in receiving payment in gold and silver compared to people that have to make monthly payments in dollars.

Zimbabwe has been through all of this. At one brief point bartering worked for food from growers with items of value like tools. Later only US dollars worked, not local currency....not sure now. But if everywhere is Zimbabwe then dollars won't work....just bits of paper. Only bartering, with stuff, which is a horrible way to live. I recommend seriously studying Zimbabwe as an example of collapse.

You do not “choose” where you live anymore because work requires people to be in specific locations and that’s where home prices and rent pushes working people to threat of homelessness and poverty even if you make more than average.
That percentage of income going to rent is normal now. It is across all professions and is why there is a housing crisis. Add on top the rising food costs and you have a future where it just gets worse.
