Located on a busy street. Lots of repairs. No Snappy Jacks for them. Keep in mind these guys don't have a lift. It's just straight up pulling in with a flat tire jack it up and change the tire or repair. I swear they had 10 of those yellow Jack's outside. No inside bays just pull up service. My previous Harbor Frieght superduty cost me over $300 for one year of use and failed. Add fuel and time lost to replace it and the cost is higher. My two ton Snap On Jack has cost me $75/ year so far and the cost will be lower next year. It has yet to fail. It and the new 3ton Snap On use the same type of seals that Caterpillar uses in its hydraulic cylinders. If the two ton starts leaking I can rebuild it with high quality USA made seals. The Harbor Freight uses o rings. They failed on my previous Harbor freight jack. A leaking jack can cause damage and can fail when you need to remove jackstands from under your ride. Been there before. Anyways I will post a video when I have issues with these jacks. Hopefully the HF can hold up longer than the previous one.

    Take your grinder to the intake ports of those peanut ports heads, open them up to match a regular oval intake gasket and you'll be amazed. Just bell mouth them to about 1 inch in and you're good. Big valves aren't necessary either but, will net you about 20 horsepower. Chinese intakes work fine but, also need to be gasket matched. If you have a US made intake, I'd prefer to see that on the engine. Compression with PP heads is no different than any open chamber head. To run pump gas, keep it around 9.5:1. Cam should be no bigger than 224/234 duration. A 750 cfm carb will work fine and a vacuum secondary is best on the street. This combo will net you around 450 horsepower and well over 500 ft lbs of torque. And it'll work to very near 5500 rpm. Regular oval are best but, PP's can be made to work if you already have them or are in a tight budget.

    Five years you give the ICON...I see guys have problems with ICON at five uses. I work in a professional shop with various aged guys amongst us. The newbies are constantly burning up their gas and lunchbreaks going to get warranty on tools from Harbor Freight. But hey...lifetime warranty right? Never mind if you gotta plan your life around getting your broken garbage replaced. It becomes a way of life for some. Look at all the money they saved on the cost of the tools though. Haaaaaa!!! Ha Ha! I just laugh. It may be wrong to laugh but, I can't help it. All the uptalk about how it's the same as Snap On, and far less costly. Yet, the look on their faces is pricelessly hilarious when you hear and see the snap of a cheap tool as they use it. I shouldn't laugh, I know that not everyone can buy Snap On or tool truck everything...But, then I think of the decades that I've endured by doing exactly that. I paid my dues over the years and now it's time for me to do the picking on and not the other way around. Now I have a huge fortune I've spent in tools and things go relatively smoothly for me. Not saying that, because I spent so much money for tools that don't break, because on occasions they do but, certainly lees over the years with experience. Seems like us older guys are less abusive to our hard-earned tools and can usually find ways to not be brutes. I have noticed when you buy something nice and use it regularly that, you never want to be without it. Thus taking better care of things. These young kids are just too amped up in the beginning and are no way gonna spend the kind of talked about $$$ for tools and got no time for slowing down to get help or be using the right tool. I see them with the attitudes of, I'm gonna get through this job at hand if I gotta ruin half of everything I own. Little do they know how long that strategy can actually last and, how things go in the long run. A year or two later if they last, of paying their new guy dues and being humbled...things then change. They eventually come around to having some sense and truly invest in themselves at whatever level they want for themselves. It is a vicious cycle. I believe there is some value to be had with cheapo tools as well. You can go to Harbor Freight and buy something to use just one time, modify or hack it up to get your job at hand finished without destroying your nice tools. That's generally the exception. No way I'd cut or heat and bend a $200 wrench when I don't know if I'll ever need it for the same thing again. I'll go get a $50-60 wrench for doing that. Then again, maybe I won't. Maybe I'm having a bad day and I'm sick of it all and tired of all these vehicles costing me money to work on, with less-than-ideal reward. Maybe I'll have the shop buy it...cause I ain't doing it.

    When I worked as a diesel mechanic I quickly found that the cheaper tools can’t hold up to abuse like the name brand ones can. So, a way to keep the cheap tools to last is to go bigger. Don’t just rely on the 3/8” drive ratchet. Invest in the 1/2” and 3/4”. With doing this, I never broke a ratchet. I will admit to splitting a few sockets, even the name brand ones, but never broke a ratchet.

    Yeah I spent my younger years buying tools off the trucks. Now I'm retired and spending money on postage returning tools by mail to Snap On. In fact I have another screwdriver sitting on my desk waiting for me to contact customer service to get a return authorization. It's inexcusable for the handles to dissolve just sitting in my toolbox. I also didn't appreciate the $140. 3/8ths drive flex head ratchet going limp to the point where it was unusable. Or the 1/2" drive tear drop ratchet that the 2 screws that hold the mechanism plate in place loosened up every other time you used it. They are supposed to have a no question warranty. Yet I have to email customer service, give them a model number which is almost impossible to do in the case of the dissolved phenolic handles, explain the problem, provide photos, then return the tool at my expense. The only positive thing about it is they have discontinued lots of the tools so they send a modern updated equivalent. Another positive thing is I can then sell the brand new tool on ebay for more than I paid for it, and replace it with a Harbor Freight version using a discount and occasional coupon. Being retired I can get by just fine with HF tools. I have one store 4 miles from me.

    I don't do alot anymore but when you do it daily it's worth paying more for quality! But HF has saved me on a few projects! I'm porting a set of cast iron heads and the Hercules grinder and Amazon carbide burs has done great, I even broke out the shaft driven Dremel after Amazon sent me the wrong set( to small) burs and they work perfect for blending close to the valve seat! Speaking of that the rain is slacking so I better get back at it, I don't get many weekends off to work on it!

    I wish I had bought a couple really nice, best quality, jacks about 30 years ago. Instead I just slightly upgrade my set every few years, each time thinking "this is the one", then a couple years later wishing I had just paid more for something better.

    I have no clue what i just watched. Reduced compression for more boost?

  • @bigboreracing356
    @bigboreracing3562 ай бұрын

    Yes. With pump gas Higher compression and lower boost made to much cylinder pressure which kept damaging parts when trying to make power. Lower compression allowed more boost and timing which made more power.

    I've used used synthetic oil from my car to paint wood, makes them black and water repellent for years. I have wooden platform with wheels i use to transport barrels of detergent, it gets it share of detergents and its nearly constantly wet or atleast moist. I got third set of wheels in it within 10 years as they get rusted off.. the platform itself is still solid as ever

    My work hammer has had the handle oiled with engine oil after use and when its put back in the box for over 40 years now , its still as good as the day I put the handle on .
