    This video almost made me go back to my norns shield bought in 2019, but after reading the comments about various problems, I remembered why I abandoned it :) After each long pause in using norns, it took me a while to get back into figuring out scripts installation and other nuances. It's pretty tedious.

    I run a brewery and it occupies most of my time. I try to have some template songs that allow quick explorations. I also welcome short sessions building experimental VCV Rack ideas (runglers, filter deep dives). And I keep singing various melody ideas. Some day I’ll get it down for posterity.

    I’m battling badly time management lately at least for my creative endeavors. I am curious how are you coping with your channel and social media the ones focused on business and sharing and the ones personal to you

  • @tworoundrobins
    @tworoundrobins24 күн бұрын

    even before this channel I was quite bad at the whole social media shtick and I have no idea why it seems so tiresome to me to actually post something on instagram etc...maybe cos I see it as a necessity rather than something I enjoy. this is why most of my instagram is filled with YT clips...as something really groundbreaking / interesting must happen for me to actually feel the need to post about it. my personal social media is even more dormant. I do love making YT videos and engaging with people here...I guess the longer video format works better for me than instant dopamine hits you get on other platforms....I guess I'm not one with the fellow kids...

    Also.. with making music.. it’s not something you can force.. pretty much like sitting at a blank piece of paper and trying to draw… sometimes it happens sometimes it doesn’t… my worse times of creativity are often five minutes before heading out somewhere with the mrs..

    I literally spend all week in my job teaching music… whilst also studying an MA in music, I really don’t have that much time to be musical for myself… this is where field recording saves me.. it’s an opportunity to get out, and I can source sounds for future music projects.

  • @tworoundrobins
    @tworoundrobins24 күн бұрын

    this is something that I have been doing recently. gathering sounds in the field is a double win for me - lets me enjoy the outside world and get some nice sonic memories that I can manipulate on in the studio :)

    Working shift work and having a family has made it hard to do those long “deep dive” sessions that seem to produce satisfying results. I went from having a studio to not having any gear out at all. I personally combat this by having one piece of gear that is portable, which for me has been the Elektron Model:Cycles. The lack of a dedicated studio and time has helped me to curb any G.A.S. by having time to really focus on what I enjoy most about making music. Most samplers, gear with endless abilities, and full of deep menus are not a conduit for my creativity. Knob per function, muscle memory, and sculpting sound that I can change pitch without losing the essence of it (working with most samplers) has been what sparks my creativity the most. Also, writing down any button combos or performance tricks that I can develop muscle memory with has been another outlet of being productive with little time. That way when I pick the M:C up after some time has passed, I can get back into the swing of it quicker.

    @@PeaceDub and @Lukelucas5521 wholeheartedly agree. although I love experimenting on new gear, and enjoy the process of learning each new instrument that might come it does take time and effort to use it efficiently. so, this obviously makes me double think the priorities of making music, where to spend the small amount of time that you have creating music - either its creating or taking hours digesting manuals and tutorial videos

  • @jameshuth3187
    @jameshuth318727 күн бұрын

    I printed out manuals to a few of the more complicated synths/ music gear that I hope to learn (Octatrack, Assimil8or, etc.) so that I can take along when I am stuck somewhere (e.g. waiting room, public transport, etc.) and read up on the gear… so that I can be more knowledgeable and effective with my time when I do get to play.

    Octatrack… jeez that name gives me the fear… sold as Ableton in a box.. I’m an MPC user through and through, my octatrack mk1 still sits in its bag unused.. good luck mate.. it literally psychologically broke me.. elektron gear is a definite workflow that some people just click with.. I just don’t have the time to commit.. still haven’t sold it, you never know I might watch that 2hr cuckoo tutorial another time. 😂

    Thank you for your video - this is quite an interesting little synth. Now I want to order one. I am curious though, what is your device that is holding your samples? That looks quite interesting as I have never seen one. Just curious where I can find one and is it something you build or does it come built. I need a small little sample player (hoping it is relatively cheap). Love how you explore the many capabilities of plinki.

    That’s really nice. I’m struggling to get the sampling as good as that with my Plinky. I’ve found that it can’t hear bass at all, but even when I give it treble, it’s v low quality and quiet. I had given up on using it as a sampler, but after hearing this I might give it another go :)

    Newly initialized patch often defaults to 50. top shift and synth ( bottom left) and change it to 100. boost your recording level with bottom shift input level ( same touch pad as synth ). maybe that will help. its worth persevering. i have a mellotron flute and some pianos in my pinky and use them all the time. good luck.
