    I believe the basic premise of this video is incorrect. A insulated raft/slab foundation installed as per a structural engineer’s specification will not suffer from any of these issues highlighted in this video. In the UK a structural engineer’s PI insurance would be on the line if the structure of the foundation started to degrade within 10 years. Not sure why Marek describes the insulated raft/slab as being cheap, it is no cheaper than a block and beam foundation to construct a foundation this way.

    Very helpful, I also use 240v tools for heavy drilling etc, they are much cheaper and more powerful than cordless. I really like the 12v Makitas, they are good value. I think Milwaukee spend a lot of money on advertising, there are lots on videos on youtube about how good Milwaukee is but I bet some of them are sponsored, and the Milwaukee tools are maybe 50% more cost but I dont think they are any better.

    Thanks. It is 80cm x 140cm. around 70cm min height, so I can put some stuff on it and it is not too high. It is kinda individual. I just needed a smaller one, so I could fit it in my car and transport it.

    In the case of beam foundations, does all clay soil have to be removed from the inside and replaced with stones/sand? Can the inside be left intact with stable clay soil if the house temperature will never be below +5 degrees?

  • @MarekKubi
    @MarekKubi3 ай бұрын

    Remove as much, as you need for drainage system, then add stones on a original untouched clay and vibrate it well with 500kg vibrator. Then another layer and again. Mission is to press stones into clay to make density higher. Then place drainage pipes in place and start foundation works. Clay is problematic, because it expands, when water level raises in it. So if you create drainage system under foundation, then it will play less under the floor.

  • @Haralds87
    @Haralds873 ай бұрын

    @@MarekKubi Would you recommend placing the original clay around the the outer beam foundation, or using stones and gravel instead? I've heard that in clay soils, adding gravel can lead to water accumulation, so some argue that using clay from the original soil might offer better protection from moisture.

    Dude you really need a decent metal cutting saw and a TIG or a MIG Also you should always grind off zinc plating on nuts and bolts before you weld. Gases given off are very harmful. Just saying

  • @MarekKubi
    @MarekKubi5 ай бұрын

    Yes, thanks dude for your feedback. In place where I did that project, there was bad electrycity. In my new garage it is so much easier to stick weld. Never thought there is such difference in electric stuff. I now will try flux core for next step. Have poor ventilation, so yes I need to use some protective mask while doing stuff like that. That welding table project was pretty much my learning course and of course there are many parts, which is easy to perform better. I still enjoyed it and it is very interesting. In the future I am thinking of TIG welding. But first I need to build a house and bigger garage with proper ventilation. Atm I can do some smaller welding project with equipment I have. Estetically yes I am yet far away from something beautiful.

    have you heard about foamglas? It is basically the same as styrofoam but made from glass instead. I am thinking about doing a pier foandation. But I don't want a slab inside since it is not environmentally friendly. Instead I want to do foamglas, compact it and then put a wooden frame on to the foamglas, fill the frame with insulation and then have the plastic sheet on top of the frame. I believe foamglas has low capillary power so should be fine.

    I don't even own an impact driver. I do everything with a drill. But I guess when driving multiple screws consecutively, impact driver's motor rotates at full speed and thus provides maximum cooling all the time.
